Ypsi and Mrs. Ypsi, delighted to hear you are going to Salem -- represent Class of '70 OK?  Sure wish I could make it but trans-Pacific tickets are just beyond me right now.  Not back to the US 'til late April this time, for my son's law school graduation in late May.  Would love to be there -- play golf, enjoy the games and the beautiful surrounding Virginia countryside.  Very nice area.  Should be warm and sunny by the weekend.

Congrats to Zman on All-Region.  Very happy for him.  To be honest, I think Overstreet and Vic Davis have played better than Zman during the final 6-8 weeks of the season, though Zman had a HUGE game Saturday vs. Dickinson.  His best in a long long time, very clutch.

Anyone have more to say in assessing, analyzing Whitewater this season?  Would love to hear what folks think of them, individually and as a team -- strengths and weaknesses.  Everyone seems to think Point was better, but there the Warhawks are again, in the Final Four.  Should we thank Emory?   Amherst and Williams are excellent teams, good over all, with lots of Final Four experience in recent years, too.

Should be a great Final Four. (and yes, I think you will see the Titans "three guard line-up" -- Overstreet, Sodemann, and Nelson -- if not the "five guard" offense,  I think you'll see a lot of Eric Dortch in this semi-final game too).

Ypsi, and all the Titan fans, enjoy, enjoy!

Congrats to all the All-Region awardees from the CCIW.  All very deserving.

As mentioned above, I personally think Overstreet and Davis have played better than Zman during the latter part of the season . . . and surely deserved some All-Region attention.  As you'all know, I love Zman and his game, overall, but just say'in that Vic Davis has played superbly down the stretch, getting the Titans to the Final Four.  Overstreet as well.  I'm not complaining, just making my observations from watching many games in the last two months.  IMHO.

Why no "Coach of the Year" in the Midwest region?  Surely several are deserving?

The Roop doesn't make points. The Roop is The Roop. And that's his charm. ;)

You are correct Mr. Sager but I also make up theories that comes true lots of time. ;)

It would be interesting to hear your theories on grammar sometime.  ;)

Did not realize we had neglected to transfer that information to the page until someone actually emailed us about it this morning.

First of all, congratulations to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans and Ron Rose on their Final Four berth and advancing to Salem.   Perhaps it took a 1 pt nail biter with Webster to sharpen the focus?  Wouldn't be the first time it's worked out that way. In any case well done!  I will be rooting hard to see them take down our friendly UWW neighbors to the north and representing the CCIW/Midwest to the title.

Yep. From what I've heard, it's either Wheaton or a D1 for Rothschild.

(I'm still a little intrigued as to how a kid with that particular surname would end up as a prospective Wheaton student, but I'm sure that there's a good story behind it.)

The other big kid who has been getting D1 looks but who is nevertheless a strong possibility to end up at Wheaton is 6'8 forward Gordon Behr from Wheaton Academy.

Wheaton has already lost out on 6'6 forward Ben Carlson from Fremd, who signed with Indiana Wesleyan this winter.

Appreciate this update on the WC recruit 'possibilities'.  Sounds to me like Rothschild (son of mid 80s alumnus perhaps?) is the real deal and could be that 3-4 yr starter that the Thunder seems to be landing every 4 years(Raymond, McCrary, Peters).  And Behr would be a welcome addition as well.  Even better reason to see J Smith and Berg step to the fore.

Quote from: GoPerry on March 15, 2014, 07:49:59 AMFor next year, Teuscher will be the key.  But here's hoping Pete Smith can exert himself offensively commensurate with his obvious talent and that J Smith, Berg or someone else can develop themselves to fill the inside void left by Haynes.  Every player will have to be even better if they wish to compete in the CCIW.

Don't be surprised if Wheaton has some outstanding freshmen next season who can step in and play right away in this league. I have no idea what sort of out-of-state talent Mike Schauer and his staff have been recruiting, but just in terms of Illinois-based players Wheaton looks like it's on the verge of bringing in some really outstanding talent for next year.

Looks to me like they've already received commitment from Murad Dillard, 6'4" guard out of Atlanta area who looks like could contribute right away.  AAU video looks pretty impressive anyhow.

Ron Wellman was the ISU AD who fired Bob Donnawald, the ISU coach who had a lot of success and also made a lot of enemies, especially at WJBC, the radio station that has Eric Stock as the superb IWU play-by-play guy. I was wondering, if John Groce did a Ron Rose imitation and took the Illini to 2 Final 4s in 3 years, would the Illini nation start a campaign to rename State Farm Center the State Farm/Groce Center and erect a statue of him?  Poor Illini. They have to go on the road to play Boston University in the who-cares NIT. Off to Salem.

Every year I produce a Mascot Bracket, picking all the winners of the Big Dance based on which mascot would win in a fight.  It is one of my favorite posts of the year.  This year covers such interesting topics such as, "What's a Jasper?" and "How is Chaucer involved in all of this?"  This is also the first time I'm featuring an interactive Readers' Choice mascot bracket, so you can vote on each game.  Here's the link http://fatpastor.me/2014/03/16/2014-mascot-bracket/

And, bringing it back to DIII, folloing my rules, the Titans would be a tough out ever year.  Millikin and Wheaton would never get out of the first round.  Elmhurst and North Central would have to be really lucky to pull off a win, and if Augustana and North Park met, it would come down to the seed.  This Final Four would be all IWU.  The Lord Jeffs and Ephs are both named after some old guy that helped found the college.

Well it all depends on who you believe, Lord Jeffs advocated for biological warfare against Native Americans - wanting to distribute blankets infected with small pox during the French war.  Amherst admits he wanted to do it, blankets did get distributed and they did devastate the Native Americans - they just won't admit that Lord Jeffs was the one that gave the order.  I guess if the blanket doesn't fit, you must acquit.

As a native american I'm familiar with the story. I don't really care for the attempted humor.

Toad - is Ephs considered the Williams 'mascot' or is the Purple Cow the mascot?
