Thanks, everyone. ;)  Just got back from a quick trip (other son had to get back for work - fortunately South Bend is only about 3 hours from Ypsi) to meet the new arrival.  He is simply the cutest. baby. ever. (And I'm not a bit biased! ::))

No green eyes - they're brown like both his parents.  And, alas, I'm sure daddy will have far more influence on his rooting preference than grandpa.  He is a Michigan alum and rabid fan - despite living less than two miles from Touchdown Jesus, he wears Michigan apparel even during ND-UM football week!  Oh,well - UM is my grad school alum status, and they are my #1 D1 team.  So I will probably continue to be the only one in my family (except for a niece who attended IWU) to give a hoot about the Titans - and she, alas, couldn't care less about sports.

Hate to disagree, but I think the my 1st child/daughter/newest NCC fan (born 4/12) wins that  ;D

And you're totally unbiased also! ;)

Make you a deal - you get cutest baby girl; I get cutest baby boy.

Oh, and congratulations!  (But trust me - being a grandparent is far less stressful than being a parent!)

Deal!
You win! You always do!

Congrats to all the new Grandpas.  My time will come.

Back on the IWU campus now.  It's all spruced up for graduation Sunday.  Looking forward to cheering the Class of '14 on -- to go out and do well, but more importantly, to do good.

IWU70 -- back on the Quad, back to my normal perch at Ames.  Good to be back, and to be briefing clean prairie air again.

:)

Today -- April 2nd -- is "All In for Wesleyan" day -- trying to raise key dollars for student scholarship.  If you are an IWU alum, supporter, today is the day to give.

It's easy -- to www.iwu.edu/challenge

Matching gift by the Egbers family of US$250K -- so we can raise today US$500K or more for IWU.  We need everyone associated with IWU to be supportive.

Pardon the promo . . . pardon the pitch.

All for a good cause.

IWU70

Yep. Gotta help those "poor" IWU students be able to afford the CCIW's most expensive institution!  :D

Seemed like I remembered at least a partial discussion (leaving out the endowment figures) of comparative CCIW costs relative to a previous post by our friend iwu70;D

I believe 70 is spending this weekend "taking the waters" at the Wesleyan Spa at Wilder Field at Tucci Stadium.

While kiko has provided 70 with CNY figures converted to the Chinese yuan, our esteemed colleague  might more fully understand the cost had the conversion been in CNH figures, specifically applicable to trading in Hong Kong, rather than the People's Republic Of China .  ;)

To be fair, a big doorstop is still a big doorstop.  It's not like they become any easier to win if you've got a few in-hand.

I assumed he already knew the going rate in HKD and thought it would be more beneficial to give him yet another currency to work with.  :)

The kitchen staff at NPU's dining hall is appreciative of your consideration in not measuring the school's tuition and room & board in yuan.

Agreed. I'm as snobbish as anyone when it comes to the extra cachet that national championships in the major sports have over the other sports ... although it does appear self-serving for someone from a North Park background or Augustana fandom to say that. ;) But the facts that NCC's titles didn't come from any of the major sports, or that most of them come from the closely-related running sports (and, thus, from the amazing work of Al Carius and his progeny), don't lessen the effort and the level of competition involved. And, in North Central's defense, the Cards have won national titles in a larger variety of sports than has any other CCIW school (men's swimming, men's x-country, men's indoor t&f, men's outdoor t&f, and women's basketball).

That's five sports.  IWU's six titles are also from five sports:  men's bball, women's bball, women's indoor T&F(x2), women's outdoor T&F,  and baseball.  And ALL of ours are legitimate d3 titles.

Just out of the spa at The Shirk, and so so happy to see all this financial and currency information.  Kiko, what ever would I do without you!?!?  Delighted to see the kroner data, and all those figures in Chinese Yuan, renminbi.  Makes me feel right at home here in Bloomington.  If only I could find a truly decent Chinese restaurant in Bloomington/Normal.  I think that is a wish too far.  Just attended IWU's graduation, one of the largest graduating classes in the University's history, and a great great class of seniors on top of all that!  Really a wonderful sunny day, full of prospect and happiness for grads and families alike.  You'all will be happy to know that IWU indeed has students coming this fall, paying with many currencies from many countries, with perhaps over 80 new international students and perhaps 50 coming from China for the class of '18, additional ones from Vietnam and many other countries.  So, the currency exchange data will be most helpful.  Sadly, we've still not found that elusive Chinese Yao Ming to add to the Titan basketball squad as yet.  But, I hear IWU is thinking of adding badminton now . . . rushing in there just behind Lacrosse.  I'm sure Greg will be happy to know this.  Can ping pong or gymnastics be far behind?  For IWU's sake, I'm also hoping Li Na's younger sister will be enrolling in IWU this fall too for women's tennis.  We'll see.  Perhaps she'll have to borrow some renminbi from the elder sister to pay those high IWU tuition fees.  Honestly, we are almost to my hoped-for goal of 200 international students on the IWU campus this Fall -- we'll see.  That would be only 8-9% or so of the total student body, and a very good addition in the academic quality of the student body, and the overall academic motivation and hard work provided by these fine students from all over the world.  Perhaps we can even make some of them D3 sports fans during their four years here too -- as they will surely become loyal Titans, good ambassadors for IWU and the US in the longer term.  Great to see, congratulate the international students graduating yesterday -- from China, Vietnam, Nigeria, perhaps Bulgaria and others.  Parents increasingly are able to travel here to see their kids' graduation, so the graduation crowd is ever-more colorful, with African garb, Vietnamese cheongsam, and Chinese cut Mao jackets.  All good -- to enliven the campus and extend its educational cooperation and reach globally.  One of my favorite students, a top academic performer, even unfurled the Vietnamese flag as he received his degree from President Wilson.  Needless to say, that likely wouldn't have happened in my student days, as we graduated in 1970, a few weeks after the Kent State and Jackson State killings.  Gladly, our two countries are now not at war and there can be positive educational cooperation, exchange and friendship between the US and Vietnam, after these 40+ years.

Thanks for all the data -- keep it coming.  You can see what great sacrifices many of the international students' families are making to pay for such a good liberal arts education in any of the CCIW schools.  Not easy.

Summertime . . . played Highland Golf course this morning with one of my best IWU buddies . . . . and it was finally, truly Spring.
