Pulling another layer of uncertainty over the question of who will man the forward position(s) for the Green Team this season.
Gook luck to Mr. Heyen in his recovery.

Appreciate the encouragement...as anyone close to the IWU program knows....nobody is more loyal, wants to play more and works harder (even through muliple injury setbacks) than Brandon.  His surgery went very well, and is extremely encouraged by the doctor that this should take care of the issue.  And is confident he should be back on the court in 4 weeks.  I pasted his h.s. videos below.  Since then he has grown another inch to 6' 8'' and put on 25 pounds.  If can in fact get healthy, could pose some real matchup problems for teams with his ability to shoot from the perimeter.  In his last j.v. game last year against Parkland College when he was playing hurt, he hit 4 of 5 on from 3 point.

(sidenote - ally oop dunk at the 2:27 mark of video is from h.s. teammate Dylan Overstreet)

Is Bandy badminton?

Perhaps also Team Handball. No idea what those lines would look like. :)

Bandy is in the same family as Hockey - played on a soccer field sized ice surface.  Inne-Bandy (inside Bandy) is the indoor equivalent and you use a plastic ball somewhat like a whiffle ball.

Given NPU's desire to seek sports at which Swedes and/or Samoans excel, we await with bated breath the NCAA's adoption of bandy (either Inne or outie), kilikiti, and/or netball as sponsored sports.

Greg, no rugby?  Samoans and Fijians always good in HK Rugby Sevens!

Glad to hear Heyen's surgery went well.  Sure hope he gets game ready in 4-6 weeks, has some chance to play and contribute this season.

Looking forward to the season.

Another Pgraph piece today -- Titans will scrimmage again this Sunday.  Not sure details.  Coach Rose confirms likelihood of three guard options, set-up.  All guards are healing, getting ready and over minor ailments.  Nelson and Sodemann both to be ready by opening game.  Heyen surgery went well, out 4-6 weeks.  Back in mid-December or January.  (Oh how I wish for Rossi and Musselman too  -- OK, just kidding, Q!).

Green/White scrimmage at Shirk, Saturday November 8th, 2 p.m.

Looking forward to the season, some great games esp. vs. WC and AC.

Big roster, many pine sitters, freshmen there, so likely some good JV games as well.

Having so many senior and experienced guards a great advantage for IWU.  Key will be finding quality post play, scoring and rebounding from some new faces in the paint.  I'm very optimistic about upcoming season for Seibring and Marietti.  Perhaps others will step up, make their mark in this Titan edition.

Is the CCIW doing the coaches chat this year? I've always enjoyed reading the coaches thoughts. Also, any idea when preseason coaches poll comes out? In the past I believe its been mid October.

The preseason poll will come out this week. The coaches' chat is now a thing of the past. As was the case this fall with the CCIW's football head coaches, CCIW SID/assistant commish Mike Krizman has conducted face-to-face interviews with all eight CCIW basketball head coaches, and I imagine that the interviews will be posted on www.cciw.org this week.

Deavis Johnson will eat opposing SLIAC big men for breakfast.

And how ironic that Mr. Johnson's new team, MacMurray, will face his old team, Millikin, in an early season contest. Wonder if that had anything to do with his becoming a Highlander? Revenge might be the chef's special on that evening's menu.  ;)

He will not be coming to MacMurray until 2nd semester...  see what I wrote about it in the SLIAC room.....

IWU scrimmaged @ Hanover today.  For what it's worth, the Titans won all 3 of the 20-minute periods -- by 8, 9, and 8 points respectively.  Jordan Nelson was held out -- still working back from that foot injury.

Hanover is picked as the favorite in the HCAC.

Wheaton traveled to Stevens Point for a scrimmage on Saturday:

UWSP Beat Wheaton in all three halves of their scrimmage today 47-24 / 35-29 / 21-20

Joe Ritchay led balanced scoring throughout, but it was defense that won the opening stanza. Point looked to run at every opportunity. They led 30-15 in the second half before Braden Teuscher scored about ten points in the last two minutes to close the gap. Brad Freeborn buried a deep three with 5 seconds left to win the 10 minute sub half at the end. Zack Goedeke looked more comfortable in the offense than Luke Zuiker of the two freshmen. Aaron Retzlaff (leg) and Stephen Pelkofer (recovering from shoulder surgery) didn't dress and Tyler Forsythe played despite a broken finger that was heavily taped.

Wheaton of course graduated Tyler Peters and Nate Haynes, but returned three starters from last year's 21-9 squad. Point used a stifling defense to render the Thunder powerless from the start. Point lacks the superstars from last year's team, but have enough complimentary parts to make this an exciting season nonetheless. The falloff from last year may not be as steep as some think. Of course, the games haven't begun yet. The only question is who is the go to guy when they need points, we'll see who steps up as the season unfolds.

Is it just my impression or is it so that the Titans play a rather softer pre-CCIW schedule than usual this year?  I see the away game at Wash U as a tough match-up, but not too many other games that I would consider tough games.  Buena Vista? IC?  MSOE?   Perhaps someone out there will correct me.

(The IWU women, on the other hand, seem to be following the Mia Smith maxim of "play the best to be the best" again -- with a pretty tough schedule of games, pre-CCIW schedule).

Guess Jordan Nelson is still on a short leash due to his foot injury, stress fracture.  Let's hope he's ready and rested by 11/15 -- and all the others too, save for Heyen, who won't be back likely 'til mid-December or even January.  Sodemann nursing a knee injury still too, but likely will be OK by season beginning.

Nice workout at Hanover against traditionally a pretty good program, team.

1. Keep in mind that teams that reach lofty heights one season often find that not every team in America is overly fond of the idea of facing them the following year. Ron Rose likely had to make a multitude of phone calls before being able to fill his non-conference dance card for the upcoming season.

2. I believe the Hanover scrimmage was IWU's 2nd such endeavor after an encounter with NAIA Olivet Nazarene. Anyone have any info on how the Green Team fared on that occasion? Stars of the game?

3. Hopefully Mr. Nelson will recover quickly from his foot fracture.
And, speaking of a short leash, hopefully he will employ one this season with regard to his celebratory tendencies after being successful on a 3 ball attempt.
