Tom, you need to change your posting icon from your kid's picture to a picture of this guy:

;)

But, Greg, that wouldn't work - Tom admitted to being a Pointer pessimist and lowballing the WIAC.  Lou Holtz would never make such admissions.

Ouch!

Kidding, kidding! :)  I can't talk about hard-hitting topics like 3 Goggles all the time here.

Lou Holtz is 77 years old, Chuck. There's no telling what Lou will or won't admit to these days. ;)

Understood, Bob. By the way, the comparison means that State Farm's a zillion times richer than Allstate, right? ;)

Don't hate on Lou Holtz.  Minnesotans were enthused with his hiring, and he quickly redirected the program.  Then Notre Dame called, leading a team to a national championship.

Not hating, just amused how every upcoming team he ever faced was the second coming of the Monsters of the Midway, while his team was battered, bruised, and not very good to start with (following which, of course, his team would win by 6 TDs). :o

Some really great games with highly ranked teams upcoming.

Brandeis clobbers #2 Amherst by 20+ points.  Go figure?

AC - WW and IWU - Wash U should tell us a lot about where the top of the CCIW is this season.  I believe IWU gets Marietti back this weekend.  NCC game vs. Dickinson a good one, too.   I agree the WIAC in basketball is a bit down this year.

And #16 North Central at #10 Dickinson (Friday).  I think NCC is clearly in the CCIW top 3 mix at this point - head of Elmhurst and Wheaton - and it will be interesting to see how the Cardinals do on the road against a really good team.

It's pretty rare to see three CCIW non-conference games in one week this good.  From an NCAA tournament perspective, any CCIW fan hoping their team ends up competitive for a Pool C bid, or seeded highly, should be rooting for the CCIW team in each of these games.  In considering the selection and seeding criteria, these games could all end up being significant come selection day.

New Top 25 - http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/index.

* Wednesday - #4 Augustana vs #1 UW-Whitewater

* Saturday - #5 Illinois Wesleyan @ #3 Washington U.

With the WIAC now in the Central Region for regional ranking purposes, these seem to be astoundingly important games for March already.

Not this year.  :-[ You have Whitewater. Point is down this year, IMO and my #2 WIAC team, Platteville, just got smoked by the Warhawks over the weekend. The WIAC's nonconference record isn't many games over .500 and River Falls (4 losses), Platteville (2 losses that count, including one to Carthage and La Crosse (2 losses), the so-called 2nd tier WIAC teams, already have multiple/bad losses. I wouldn't be too concerned with the WIAC this year. And before all of you get too worked up and jump on me, I've been known to be a Pointer pessimist and also been known to lowball the WIAC.  :-X ??? ;D

I don't think you're lowballing the WIAC at all.  It seems clear that the overall talent level is down.

Massey, right now, has:

1. CCIW
2. UAA
3. WIAC

That's another cool thing about the Augie/UWW and IWU/Wash U games...they involve the top 3 leagues.

Titan Q

As far as teams, Massey has:

1. UW-Whitewater
2. Wash U
3. St. Norbert
4. Illinois Wesleyan
5. North Central
6. Augustana

All 6 of those teams, by the way, are in the Central region.

Thats good news for Whitewater.  With Patten and Moananu producing off tihe bench like they way they are, they'll be hard to beat, at least in the WIAC. I've said from the beginning it's their conference to lose.

Final from Terre Haute:

Rose-Hulman 69
Millikin 60

There must've been an interesting finish to this game, as the Big Blue were called for two technical at 00:36 and for two more at 00:30. Funny thing is, it was a seven-point game when the first two were called, and the final score was only a nine-point difference.

MU is now 4-5 on the year.
