There it goes. Just must not start until game actually begins.

EC up on IWU 31-30 at the half.  Tough defensive battle, with pace so far favoring EC.

Elmhurst is a very good team, and the 'jays hold serve at home in a contender vs contender game.  IWU didn't shoot it very well in the first 30+ minutes - that combined with Elmhurst's always strong defense just made things very hard on the Titans.  IWU also got manhandled on the boards for a key stretch of the game.  In the end, Elmhurst just went out and played better and won this game.

IWU just about got run out of the gym, trailing 62-47 with 7:30 to play after a horrendous stretch.  But the Titans mounted a furious comeback behind some Jordan Nelson, Bryce Dolan, and Dylan Overstreet 3 pointers, and with 0:19 to play had the ball down just 2.  Dylan Overstreet made a spinning move in the lane, drew some contact, got a good look and missed the shot.

IWU is 5-2 at the turn, and is done with road games at Augustana, Elmhurst, North Central, and Wheaton.  The Titans are right in the middle of the title race.  A win today would have put IWU in a bit of a lead position in my opinion...I don't think the loss is a real killer.  The contenders all have to come to the Shirk Center now.

John Baines has done a great job with this Elmhurst team.

IWU hosts Wheaton Wednesday.

How valuable is your point guard?  I thought a key turning point came at 18:06 in the second half when Overstreet picked up his third foul and came out of a tied game.  It took just two minutes, six seconds and a six point Elmhurst lead before Ron Rose put Overstreet back in.  John Baines saw an opportunity to push Elmhurst into a lead and took it.

As Q notes above, at the 7:30 mark, the pace picked up just a little bit as IWU started to push the tempo and cut into a 15 point Elmhurst lead.  The Titans just came a bit short on the road.

On Elmhurst - first time I have watched them this year.  The Bluejays play has much improved over last season.  More poise, control and discipline. Better help defense, better offensive execution.

Elmhurst is surprising some people this year. They are learning how to win the tough games. They still need to avoid a letdown game after a big win. But I love the progress they have made under Coach Baines and his staff. The junior class is doing exactly what I thought they would when they were freshmen. Keep up the good work  Blue Jays.

Final from Decatur:

Augustana 71
Millikin 68

Millikin went to the line down 2 with about 0:10 left and made 1 of 2 to make it 69-68 Augie. They fouled, Pils made both FTs, and the Big Blue just missed a 3 at the buzzer that would have sent it to OT.

Augie staggers to a 71-68 victory over Millikin. Millikin was very impressive in defeat. Almost overcame a big Augie lead midway through the second half.

No, that's not a typo.

Best game an NPU team has played in decades.

What a strange season this is. Nothing is predictable. Every night the supposed favorite had better show ready to play.

Right now I would say the conference regular season will end with the following 4 going to the CCIW tourney at IWU:

1. IWU
2. Elmhurst
3. Augie
4. Your guess is as good as mine.  :-)

Yep.   NPU 92 NCC 68.  NCC looked very slow up and down the court tonite, which led to many easy buckets for NPU.  D2 transfer and NCC scoring leader, Jayme Moten, was a non-factor.  NPU's win was truly a bench-clearing team win.  NPU led 2-0 and then the entire game.  NPU had a very good night from behind the arc, but that alone is not what separated this game.
