Greg, I agree with you about disciplinary things coming out on this site.  We all know AO and his antics.

However, facts are persistent things and they do seem to come out in time.  Decisions are made for reasons, for good or ill.  It's funny how most decisions benefit from the light of day.

I think that, instead of wondering what's going through Raridon's head, one should wonder what's going through the heads of his players. He might be losing that team. If the Cards lay another egg on Saturday against Wheaton in the hangar -- a gym in which Wheaton is notorious for playing poorly year after year --

Encouragement for AndOne....Wheaton has not won @ NCC since 2004, Joel Kolmodin's senior year.

I wasn't quite that long ago.   Tyler Peters and Tim McCrary won at NCC in 2012.

This one doesn't, Mark. The internet has a permanence to it that can hurt people down the road. Garrett Gatz does not deserve to have a potential job interview botched some day because someone decided to post this kind of thing.

I myself am puzzled that Gregory would (a) consider an outlier Wheatie year to make them a have-not, and (b) allow David>Goliath to take priority over the warm fuzzy feelings that would come should the Thunder finish South of the Vikings in this year's standings.

(a) Outlier year or not, Wheaton's most definitely a have-not this season. That 9-10, 2-6 record doesn't lie. (And, while we're a long way away from considering next season, Wheaton will lose three starters to graduation this May -- one of whom, Brayden Teuscher, is going to be extraordinarily hard for Mike Schauer to replace. I'm not sold on the idea of a Wheaton bounce-back in 2015-16, at least not with this current roster.)

I agree.  Teuscher is a really good player.  Without him Wheaton is by far the worst team in the league.   He is gone next year I am afraid the cupboard is bare.

Wheaton always seems to have a knack for unearthing a superstar every three or four years from one of the many points of the compass where WC recruits. And the possibility that Mike Schauer could land such a freshman next season is thus fairly realistic. But, even if he gets one, it's hard to tread water in this league with a freshman as your bell cow, no matter how good he is (last season's NPU team was a classic example of that).

I think that Wheaton's got some serviceable players coming back next season. Michael Berg has made great strides this year in converting from a perimeter player to a low-post player; Luis Miller is solid (provided that he's fully healthy by next January, which is not a given); and Joel Smith has improved his game as well. One or more of this year's freshmen might develop into something useful for 2015-16. But when you look at Wheaton's potential roster next season within the greater context of the league at large, it's not one that's really going to scare a lot of people in the other seven CCIW outposts.

Unless he's Kent Raymond or Steve Djurickovic - and I'm not sure even Wheaton can do that again and Bosko is out of kids (as far as I know)! :P

Ahh.  Thank you for that correction izzy.  This year, even one win over the last 10 yrs is an appreciated positive.

Gatz has been dismissed from the team. I will not dignify the rumor as to why he was dismissed with a yes or a no, both because the reason why Tom Slyder told Gatz to turn in his uniform is nobody's business here and because we're talking about a young man who does not deserve to have his future jeopardized by scandal-mongering innuendo of this sort.

I'm disappointed in you, Mark. You really should know better than to post crap like that here.
Amen

Kent Raymond and Steve Djurickovic were once-in-a-generation players for their respective programs, Chuck. Raymond finished his career with 2,308 points (he ranks second all-time in career scoring at Wheaton behind former NBA and ABA player Mel Peterson), and Djurickovic finished his with 2,547 (he's Carthage's all-time leading scorer by a country mile over second-place Jason Wiertel). The odds of Mike Schauer landing a future 2,300-point scorer in his 2015-16 freshman class are exceedingly small.

Furthermore, when Kent Raymond was a freshman at Wheaton he had Jon Nielson (All-CCIW first team), Jonathan Steven (All-CCIW third team), Martin Trimiew, and Tony Bollier as teammates, and when Stevie D. was a freshman at Carthage he had Trey Bowens (All-CCIW third team) and Sean Fendley (11.1 ppg, and one of the best three-point shooters in the league) as teammates. I don't foresee Wheaton surrounding any presumptive newbie superstar with that kind of complementary talent next season.

(In retrospect, I'm surprised that nobody poked fun at my spectacularly mixed metaphor of a team treading water having a bell cow. I'm a city boy, but even I'm pretty sure that cows are not good swimmers. ;))

For what it's worth, I agree with Greg on Wheaton's prospects in the next few years.  Seemingly a pretty quick and servere fall off.  And, to say the least, I'm surprised that Greg even knew what a bell cow is.  An impressive city-slicker to be sure.

IWU at Carthage, a dangerous game.  IWU has two important road games now -- bringing home Ws from Kenosha and Decatur very important.

He flashed some "3 goggles" and AndOne came out of the stands and broke his finger.
