Good luck to Augie this weekend.  Hope they go far, represent the league well.  Augie played very well last weekend, but sometimes you do have to have a little luck, too. They were behind late in that game and got the game-changing steal in a very key moment. Good for them, but you gotta have some luck to get to the Final Four, as well as playing very well.  Call me old-fashioned.

Great season for Elmhurst, and John Baines doing an excellent job.  They will be favored along with Augie next year, I would think.  Lots coming back for both teams.

PS Anyone know why the Augie student section is across from the Augie bench? I would think it would be much more effective to have that student section on Augie's defensive end in the second half of games. It's a great student section, and they get pretty loud. I would think there would be an advantage to have that noise factor disrupting the opponent's offense in the second half.
NCAA dictates seating arrangements at NCAA Tournament games. Fan sections are supposed to be kept as close to their team's bench as possible.

Yes, but they also sit across from the home bench in conference games.

I believe many schools would historically position their student section seating either in the end zone closest to the visitors bench or on the side directly across from the visiting team bench. The object of said placement, of course, being the ability to direct the maximum degree of harassment/disruption toward the opposition. As Just Bill points out, this is outlawed by the NCAA during national tournament play. Accordingly, I believe some schools whose seating arrangements were traditionally as described in my opening sentence above, have altered that arrangement and now subscribe to tournament type seating arrangements during the regular season. Whether or not such alterations have been done in the spirit of good sportsmanship, to avoid potential confrontations, or for any other reason(s) can only be answered by officials at a particular school.

CCIW member North Central traditionally had it's student section in the (east) end zone at the end of the visitors bench. During the 2013 national tournament, again per NCAA mandate, this was not allowed, and the NCC students were switched to the west end zone seats. Other NCC fan sections were designated as being across from the NCC bench (western half of the north side seating) as well as the western half of the balcony. Beginning the next (2013-14) season, with the seating renovations completed, the switch was made permanent, and the NCC students now occupy the west end zone seats during the regular season. Just the opposite of where they had been for many years. Think of the half court line. Home seating on the same side of half court as the home bench, visitor seating on the other side.

Thus Augie follows the same policy as NCC. I believe Carthage, Elmhurst, and NPU also generally follow the same arrangement, at least with the students being closer to the home bench as opposed to the visitors.
Wheaton may also now follow this policy after having its students occupy BOTH end zones for some time. Wesleyan's student section still sits directly opposite the VISITING team bench AND its pep band also sits in the visitors end zone at the end of the student section.
It seems like IWU's configuration is the one that puts its students closest to the visitors bench, at least during regular season play.
I don't know what the Millikin arrangement is.

I don't know what the Millikin arrangement is.

The main portion of North Park's student section has always been located in the northwest stands, across the floor from the home bench, for as long as I've been at NPU, i.e., the late seventies. Dennis P. can tell us if they ever sat anywhere else before then. Same with Carthage and Elmhurst, as Mark says, and the same thing goes for Augie. While Wheaton students have sat in both endline sections of King on occasion (just as NPU students have filled up the stage section for big games), the general Wheaton student population fills up the side opposite from the home bench, with the WC football team in the endline section between the home bench and the main student section. The Wheaton students sat across from the Wheaton bench when it was Centennial Gym under the old seating arrangement as well.

In fact, in my experience it's been more the historical rule for student sections to sit opposite the home bench than it has been for them to sit across from the visitor bench. I'm sure that there are plenty of schools like North Central where the reverse situation has been the case (although NCC has always been an anomaly in that the students have always preferred to use endline seats; of course, the weird seating situation in the airplane hangar prior to the recent remodeling basically dictated that), but most of the D3 gyms I've visited have always had that home-bench-and-students-at-one-end, visitor-bench-and-students-at-the-other-end configuration, keeping in mind that: a) in most cases, there's little to no visitor fan presence aside from family members, and those family members usually sit behind the visitor bench; and b) home fans like to spread out in their own gym.

NPu/NPC student section has always been where it is now.  When NPC played in the old gym the only seating was in the balcony.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Congrats to Augustana and Point on Elite Eight.  Keep it rolling Doggies . . . one more to Salem.  Point looks very good again.

Great job Coach G and Augie.  Keep it rolling tonight!

Less than 2 hours till game time with a chance to go to the FF. Augie was in this same position in 2011 but lost at home to St. Thomas. I think this year's team is better than the 2010-11 team, but I am pretty nervous going into tonight's matchup with Marietta. Hope a full house shows up to support Augie. There were still a little over 200 tickets left when I checked this morning. Hope everyone in CCIW land sends out good vibes.

That UST team was darn good. They swept through Salem too.

They beat defending national champ Stevens Point team twice that year, including the night before taking on Augie in Rock Island.

Sure looks like the Doggies having absolutely no problem with Marietta.  Final Four for the CCIW -- way to go Augustana.  Great season.  Point will be there too, probably Trinity and one of the ODAC winners.
