Quote from: AndOne on November 03, 2015, 03:05:31 PMNo, he hasn't, but that's not the point. That he had never had a team finish 7th was not a logical or valid reason why last year's team couldn't finish in that position. True?

Do we think that Bosko really believed that?

Or, is it possible that he has overly sarcastic and after all these years, he still has not mastered the art of media relations?

AO, you're an NCC guy aren't you?  What it is about Bosko that causes you to dislike him so much.  Your liking or disliking him doesn't really matter to me but I just curious why you might feel this strongly.

* IWU's men's basketball roster/recruiting

* Grey Giovanine (who Mark calls "The Stomper")

* Bosko/Carthage recruiting

* Jordan Nelson

Carthage roster is up:

http://athletics.carthage.edu/roster.aspx?path=mbball

For those keeping score, 12 guards listed.

I think I'm most excited to see Jason Wiertel listed as an assistant coach.

Can't wait to hear Bosko's take on being ranked last in the conference standings...should be priceless!

Good to hear from you, K-Mark.

Carthage's program seems to be a long way from the time this Chicago Tribune article was written.

That's a great story, especially the nod to the top of D-III being able to play with D-I.

I'm not sure you need to go back that far, though, for Carthage to be relevant... Carthage beat UWSP (albeit in a scrimmage) in 2010, right after UWSP won the national title. Carthage was the preseason #5 and UWSP was preseason #1.

Take for what it's worth (which isn't much), but a couple Top 25 scrimmage scores from this weekend...

#5 Carthage 91
#1 UW-Stevens Point 80
(at Carthage)

Looks liks Point's in big trouble this year! lol  :o ;D :D ;) ::)  Were there chants of "Overrated!" in the stands?  ;D

Point didn't repeat... lost in the Sweet 16 to St. Thomas by 2 and the Tommies went on to win the title. Carthage, coming off of a 23-7 season, ended up at 16-9 and have only been over .500 once since then.

Wheaton preview out today:

Coach Schauer sounding fairly measured in his comments and can't say I blame him-- keeping the expectations realistic and speaking about 'the process' of getting better.  No real surprises.  Had heard that newcomer Trae Masten might be seeing some decent minutes which looks to be the case and same for point guard Troy Morrison.

  And having Riley Teuscher back and healthy will give the Thunder another outside threat . . .

"Guard Riley Teuscher had a strong start to his junior season in 2014-15, before an injury at the beginning of the conference schedule ended his year. Teuscher played in 13 games, averaging 4.7 points per game, shooting 42.4% (19-of-45) behind the three-point arc. The senior is currently dealing with an injury in the preseason, "Riley has not practiced yet in contact."

So much for the healthy part . . .

I like what he said about freshman having to adjust to the physicality of the college game, Div III or otherwise.  It always appears to me that 4 out of 5 freshman that are skilled enough to play right away could all use an additional 15-20 pounds.  Playing defense on the college level is also a big adjustment.

A related article to the story was regarding Elmhurst and how they were closing in on the CCIW championship.  Did Elmhurst end up winning that season?

Yes, Elmhurst won the CCIW title that year. It's still the only CCIW men's basketball title that Elmhurst has ever won in the 62 years that that school's been in our league.

It adds an interesting element to this coming season, because it could very well end with CCIW title #2 for the Bluejays. And that would put head coach John Baines on the same level as his mentor, 2000-01 EC head coach Mark Scherer.

As the basketball season returns, it may not be uncommon to wonder....what ever happened to so and so....i.e. did Joel become a Doctor, what firm is Keelan working for, where is Rob Garnes these days.

I came across a name from the past the other day.  A prolific 3 point shooter for North Central for 6 or 7 games back in 2009 before he left the team for unspecified reasons, Kyle Julius.

Kyle made $2.5MM on the professional poker tournament last year.   How 'bout that stuff !

Oh, yeah. Kyle "Orange" Julius. Now there was an interesting guy. Sounds like he's even more interesting now. ;)

Oh, he's mastered it, all right. He's also mastered the art of finding subtle ways of lighting a fire under his players, which is what the whole 7th-place brouhaha was about last season.

However, I seriously doubt that he's got any smoke-and-mirrors tricks that are capable of keeping Carthage out of the cellar this season, although I'll admit that I've underestimated him before.

See, if I hadn't spent so much time tinkering around and adding material to that last post, I would've noticed that pgkevin had already beaten me to the punch with the "Luke Johnson" bit.

The early bird gets the punchline.

It's all good, Greg - pgkevin forgot to add Luke Johnson's dad. ;)

That must have been a fun season to follow the league.

that season probably featured the greatest group of front court players the league has ever seen.

New to the site here.  How are teams scrimmages going so far?  I think Carthage has two of them in the next 5 or 6 days.  I also heard Elmhurst squeaked out a win against Aurora and both teams were in triple digits for the two combined 20 minute periods.

Welcome to the board.

* I heard Millikin had a lot of trouble with Wash U Saturday.

* New NCC Cardinal Alex Sorenson had this dunk at Eureka (video) - https://instagram.com/p/9etrmtkwsJ/

* IWU did well vs NAIA D2 #5 Olivet Nazarene

That's about all I got.

IWU and Olivet Naz always used to play a regular season non-con game - when did that drop to a scrimmage, or is this just a one year thing?
