Q, happy to credit Mssr. Reinhardt.  Yes, we can read the Pgraph here on the Far Side.

Seems to me the Titans might be stronger now starting Jaylen Beasley or Alex Bausch over Rob Mahlke.  IMHO.  More scoring and more rebounding.

Let's hope the Titans go to 7-4 for the non-CCIW portion.

Big initial challenge for the Titans at EC.  John Baines doing a great job up there.

Rob Mahlke starts at the 4, but almost all of IWU's minutes at the 4 come from Bausch and Beasley.  Here are average minutes per game for the two games in San Antonio:
* Alec Bausch = 24
* Jaylen Beasley = 13

That's 37 minutes between the two, all at the 4 (of 40 total).

In the same games, Rob Mahlke averaged 9 minutes per.  Just 3 of his minutes per game were played at the 4.  The other 6 per game were at the 5, as Trevor Seibring's backup for a few minutes in each half.  (Trevor Seibring averaged 34 minutes per game at the 5 in those two games - Seibring and Mahlke account for all 40 minutes at the 5.)

Also worth noting that IWU is 3-0 with Rob Mahlke as a starter (Wash U, Southwestern, Texas Lutheran).

Re: the students who got caught up in paperwork issues, do we know whether they actually attended class at Carthage while not playing ball?  Could they have been recruited with the promise that if they earned a certain gpa while attending a community college, then they would be admitted to Carthage and thus eligible to play?  A transcript is one type of paperwork.

RE: North Park, the bench is so thin that the major players are logging a lot of minutes before the brutal conference schedule.

That's one way of looking at it. Another is that you want your best players on the floor as much as possible.

I'm fine with Juwan Henry playing 36 mpg, Colin Lake playing 35 mpg, and Jordan Robinson playing 34 mpg, as long as they still have gas in the tank at the end of the game.

Q, I don't get it.  I know the minutes situation too.  So why is Mahlke starting?  The greater production and time comes from the other guys.  Is this just a senior reward thing or what?  Plus, Mahlke had very little to do with those victories -- in terms of output and contribution to the stat line.  Just say'in.

Hope the Titans have a good outing today in Milwaukee.

Happy New Year to you, Q, and to all the other CCIW chatsters and comrades.

Best wishes from the Far Side -- already New Year's eve here.

Did you see Sydney Moss' stat line at The Shirk?  :)  Wow.

Arrgh! Defiance's video and live stats went down simultaneously with five minutes and change remaining and NPU up by nine.

They finally posted an 82-77 win for North Park. Jordan Robinson scored 26 and hauled in 14 rebounds.  T.J. Cobb scored 20.

North Park 82, Albion 77

Jordan Robinson: 26 pts (3-4 trey), 14 rebs, 4 blks, 3:1 a:to
T.J. Cobbs: 20 pts (6-7 FG), 4 stls, 3:0 a:to
Juwan Henry: 14 pts, 8:2 a:to
Colin Lake: 12 pts

NPU survived a second helping of classic Albion uglyball today. The Vikings led most of the way, although they were never able to bump up the lead higher than 10 in the second half. Some shaky free-throw shooting at the end along with good hard-nosed second effort on the offensive boards by the Brits made the stretch run more interesting than I would've liked, but the Vikings still managed to prevail.

In a game in which both Juwan Henry and Colin Lake really struggled from the field, T.J. Cobbs stepped up and covered for them. Aside from doing all of the unsung-hero stuff he usually does, he really stepped up his offensive game. His 20 points are a career high, breaking his personal record of 18 that he set against Illinois Wesleyan as a freshman, and he seemed to be all over the floor tonight. He didn't get All-Tournament team mention, but he clearly deserved it.

Jordan Robinson? It's scary what he's been able to do thus far this season. This makes five straight double-doubles for him, and he's reached that mark in six of the last seven games. He's leading the league in both scoring and rebounding. It's hard to figure out where his ceiling lies as a player.

NPU concludes the non-con slate with an 8-3 record. Now it's on to the airplane hangar and the start of the CCIW portion of the sked come Saturday night.

Surely NPU a legit contender for the CCIW crown.  Playing extremely well.

Robinson the best CCIW player in the non-CCIW portion of the schedule.  IMHO.

Yup, really ugly.  Give MSOE credit, they took it to the Titans big time.  Gut check time for the Titans.
