Congrats to North Central Head Coach Todd Raridon who, with his 205th win last night, became the Cardinals all-time leader in coaching victories.
Combined with his 269 wins at Nebraska Wesleyan, Raridon now has a total of 474 career victories--exactly twice the number of games he has lost.

AndOne

North Central 95
Carthage       77

After displaying their matador style of defense which allowed Carthage to shoot 62% overall, and 50% from three in the first half, and found the NCC trailing by 6 at that juncture, the Cardinals underwent a blistering halftime critique following which they treated the Tarble Arena nets and the home team opposition to the same type of treatment in the second stanza. Clamping down on defense, while at the same time blistering the nets on the offensive end, the Cardinals turned that 6 point deficit into an 18 point, 95-77, victory. After shooting 43% overall, and 57% from three in the first half, the Cards upped those figures to 75% and 86%, respectively, in the second half. They also hit 92% of their FTs.
At the same time, their increased intensity on the defensive end saw them reduce the Carthage percentages from 62 and 50 to 39 and 15, and in the process, out scoring the hosts by 24.

NORTH CENTRAL:

* Erwin Henry: 19 points (7/10), and a team high 6 rebounds.
* Kevin Honn: 16 points off the bench (6/11 & 3/4), 5 rebounds. In his last 88 minutes of PT, the Cardinals 6th man has 61 points.
* Alex Sorenson: 14 points.
* Connor Raridon: 12 points.

CARTHAGE:

* Sean Valentine: 21 points.
* Brad Kruse: 15 points
* Kiston Lee: 14 points, 6 rebounds.

Tony Pierce Jr., who burst on the scene, mid-season, has fizzled considerably. Last night he was 1/4.
Jordan Kedrowski, who began the season spectacularly, has seen the bottom fall out. Last night, no points.

Regarding IWU vs North Park for 4th place, basically thinking out-loud here...

If IWU beats NPU Saturday, both teams would be tied at 6-7 with 1 game to play.  On Feb 20, IWU hosts Elmhurst, NPU hosts North Central.  So from there...

* If IWU and NPU both win on Feb. 20, and both finish 7-7, the tie-breaker would come down to who has the better win - IWU's vs Elmhurst or NPU's vs North Central.  So, where Elmhurst and NCC finish in the standings comes into play.  In this scenario, IWU needs Elmhurst to finish higher...North Park needs NCC to finish higher.

* If IWU and North Park both lose on Feb. 20, they would both finish 6-8.  Going through the CCIW tie-breakers:
   1. Head-to-head competition.  (Push)
   2. Record against team(s) above the tie beginning with the highest ranked team. (Push)
   3. Record vs. team or teams in 3rd place. If still tied, go to the next place for determination, et cetera. (Push)
   4. Road record against conference schools. (Push)
   5. Record in their last seven conference games.  I think IWU wins here? 3-4 IWU vs 2-5 NPU?
   6. The point spread of the tied teams' head-to head competition.
   7. Coin toss

Does this sound right?

Obviously if North Park beats IWU Saturday, the Vikings are in.

This is all correct, Bob.

Titan Q, I brought up the question of the tiebreaker back on page 2799 a week or so ago and no one "bit".  Perhaps it was too soon, or perhaps the IWU folks didn't want to get too excited about the possibility that their team could actually slip in the door.
NPU v IWU at the Shirk will absolutely be a huge game if the top 3 teams take care of business.
Personally, I'm hoping that NPU gets in. (sorry)  It has been a very long time since they've been there and they have quite an exciting couple of players that I enjoy watching.

The last time NPU won at Shirk was in 2008, a 10-point OT victory in Ron Rose's 2nd season. But IWU is just a mediocre 6-5 at home this season.

Page 2799 - most of us did not "bite" because the possibilities between either just winning the 4 spot and tie-breaker 7 are mind numbing.
So we pull a Mr Ypsi, wait until somebody like Q or Sager starts loosing sleep and throws out a scenario.  Usually, they either nail it (Q did this time) or, Oh No, someone else "bites"' gets it wrong, Sager writes a chapter for his novel and this board scrolls for pages and pages!  :o ;D
So most of us do the smart thing - wait.

This Saturday IWU will honor the 1996 and 2006 Final Four teams - http://www.iwusports.com/news/2016/2/11/MBB_0211165203.aspx.  Two extremely talented teams.

Should be a special day at The Shirk, with these reunions and all the Pink Zone Game activities. Hope lots of folks come out and raise lots of money for a very good cause -- the Community Cancer Center.

Loved both of those returning teams -- from 1996 and 2006.

Both current varsity squads need these wins vs. NPU.

Go TITANS!!!

The two games in 95-96 between Wheaton and IWU were some of the best I've ever seen.  I'm still disappointed that Tim Seneff hurt his knee, I think Wheaton could have done some more damage in the tourney if they had him on the floor. Still loving the Wesley Pitts dunk in that IWU game.

Two of the best, most memorable games from my time following IWU and the CCIW.  Those were incredibly talented teams.

I will never forget at Wheaton (old gym configuration) having to show up before the JV game to get in.
