That's exactly the kind of player UWSP is getting, tomt. He's a highly athletic 6'5 glove who won't get you much in the way of offense, but will be a solid addition to the rotation of the Pointers. NPU was on him, too.

Thank you very much Greg, I appreciate it.

I come in peace...I'm a Stevens Point fan and normally stick to the WIAC board and Wisconsin basketball players.  I have heard that UWSP has gotten a commit from Jontrell Robinson, played his high school ball at Rockford East and moved onto win a D3 Junior College National Championship with Rock Valley College this past season.  I have done a little digging and haven't come up with much on the type of player he is.  Seems like a good athlete who is a lockdown defender but struggles on the offensive end.  Any other information you guys can add would be appreciated, thanks.

I read your whole post, but all I could think of was Dolph Lungren's sci-fi movie and his his movie title tagline.

So, can someone besides Mr. Ypsi (  :P  ;D ) convince me without green tinted Titan glasses, that IWU can be a CCIW player and NCAA tourney player next year. We've had a friendly debate over in fantasy land the validity of taking Seinbring and Rose in the Early Bird Futures League. I think for some outsiders, it looks like North Central and North Park could be the preseason favorites. We also can't ignore Carroll. Can IWU pass any of the 3 and make another Final Four run?

This guy is bigger than all three 6-9 players on the D2 Augustana, S. D. roster.   http://www.goaugie.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball

Massive hoarders.

Augie has been hoarding bigs forever. So far this year's incoming class includes 6-6, 6-6, 6-7, 6-7, 6-7, and 6-9. Thats six guys 6-6 and taller, not to mention the 6-6, 6-6, 6-7, 6-7, and 6-9 potential returnees. AC might have to change their nickname to something like Giants or Skyscrapers, and Rock Island might become known as Hoarder City.
Keep Away anybody?
With seeing so many bigs, who really weren't that talented, get scholarships over the years based almost only on height alone, you wonder how many of these guys got offers. Maybe they couldn't resist the Augie Medical College housed in the basement of the Carver Center?  ;)
Assuming all the above referenced players are either PFs and Centers, we have 11 guys available to man those 2 positions. Is that enough??  ;)
Stay tuned.

Fantasyland? So you're engaging Chuck on his home turf, then. ;)

I think that a Final Four run might be a bit farfetched for Illinois Wesleyan, but nothing's set in stone for anybody with regard to the top of the conference for next season. IWU should be a solid candidate for one of the top four spots in the league, as it usually is.

Augie hasn't been quite as big as it was in the early part of the decade when it had Nelson, Voiles, Scarlata, Dexter and that crew, back when one of the local papers in the QC even ran a story on the Augie brigade of bigs. Ben Ryan, who was Augie's top inside player over the past four seasons, was 6'5 and played most of his career weighing somewhere in the 200-210 range. Of course, the eye-popping number of bigs that Grey Giovanine and Tom Jessee have brought in during the current recruiting cycle is going to change things back to the way it was early in the decade, at least in terms of making an impressive team photo.

Don't get me wrong, having a flotilla of aircraft carriers is a nice luxury. But the problem with having so many bigs is that they tend to be less versatile in terms of their skill sets than are perimeter players. You run out of minutes between the varsity and the JV in terms of allotting game time for players who can't play anything other than center and/or power forward, and with a few exceptions over the years (Bryant Voiles and Tayvian Johnson come to mind), Augie's bigs really haven't had the skills to play small forward -- and even those two players ended their careers playing more 4 than 3. That means a serious bottleneck in terms of playing time, more so than you're likely to get if you have an army of guards that need to be accommodated with clock.

What are they suppose to do?  With IWU hoarding guards pickings were slim.  They have recruit somebody.

Well, this will sound callous, but they don't need all of them to work out -- just some of them.  And my sense is that the list of players headed to Double-G land is not done yet.

Doesn't sound callous at all, kiko.  That's the way it plays out in all college sports at all levels.  Not surprised Augie is targeting a lot of bigs in their recruiting this year.  Last year was a very guard heavy class, with 8 of 9 recruits playing the 1,2 or 3 positions.  Only one player above 6'5" in last year's class.

I agree. I'm just pointing out that big men are generally not as useful in terms of being moving pieces on the roster as are perimeter players.
