Edgar Alsene, longtime SID at Illinois Wesleyan, passed away today.  Edgar was a wonderful human being - I feel lucky to have known him.

Please keep Edgar's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Elmhurst added a couple players to their incoming class. The Turner kid has the potential to be pretty good.

http://www.elmhurstbluejays.com/news/2016/7/14/mens-basketball-baines-adds-two-to-recruiting-class.aspx

With the addition of the 2 additional players reported by USee, Elmhurst's recruit list now numbers 15. With 14 players eligible to return from last year's roster, EC could potentially see a roster of 29 for the upcoming 2016-17 season. Who's hoarding now? 😉

No wonder John Baines also had to add two coaches to his staff. Lots of counselors are required for that many campers. Maybe they can all play at the same time. :)
Assuming all those eligible return, and all the reported recruits matriculate, it will be interesting to see how many of the 29 become regular members of the rotation. 🏀

My condolences as well. Sounds like a life well lived.

Found out via Twitter this morning that recently graduated North Central guard Jayme Moten is now an assistant coach at Elmhurst. Happy for him, and excited that the Elmhurst/NCC rivalry has really grown over the last couple of years with all the defections.

He was the "player to be named later" in the trade of women's basketball forward Tess Godhardt from EC to NCC. ;)

Moten will be a grad assistant at EC. It appears that Chris Martin's replacement as the guy who sits second chair for John Baines will be former D1 and D2 big man Jake Lindfors.

Wow. Congrats to Art. It's pretty late in the year to lose your #1 assistant. Will be interesting to see what Schauer does.

I take it that John Panner has an outside job and thus isn't available to be promoted to second chair. Or is that not the case?

It seems like Mike Schauer's had a lot of turnover on his staff over the past few years.

Greg,

I know you're a stickler for both using people's proper/correct names as well as pronouncing them correctly. As such, a reminder that Coach Panner's first name is JON.  :)
Wonder what that possible 2nd job might be.

That actually happened 8 days ago!  ;)

Right, I just didn't know that Jayme was going to be one of the two. Even double checked Elmhurst's website and didn't see his name on there.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that NCC won that trade.  ;)

Lots of road games, particularly when there appears to be no snowbird excursion in the mix.  Is that unusual over at Foster and Kedzie?

Gregory Sager

North Park's men's basketball program hasn't taken snowbird trips of the traditional three-to-five-days-in-the-sun variety for many years now. Last season the Vikings bused to the Tennessee-Georgia border to play Covenant in a one-off contest, and to northwestern Ohio to participate in the Defiance tournament, but there were no extended trips beyond a couple of days. All of NPU's athletic programs are on tight budgets, and the athletic department's 2016-17 budget will be even tighter than usual.

As for the Vikings playing seven non-con road games and only two non-con home games, that's just a quirk of the schedule. Dubuque, Albion, and Illinois Tech were due to get the Vikings at home after NPU had hosted the front end of two-year contracts last season. Tom Slyder has established new two-year contracts with Chicago, Alma, and Trine that result in the Maroons, Scots, and Thunder hosting this season -- even though Alma and Trine hosted NPU last season -- with North Park hosting those three teams next season. And UWL is a new two-year contract that will operate with the same rotation as Chicago, Alma, and Trine.
