What is the "over under" for North Park on whether they update their BB roster before next week's first game?

It'll be up by then, although I'm pretty sure that Tom won't sign off on letting Kevin post it until the last minute.

Since I was the scorekeeper for the scrimmage the other night, I got a preview copy of the roster. I'd send it to you, but my scanner is broken. :(

That's not a good sign to me, but that is probably not his intent.

The NPU coaches in the Big Four sports seem to have a penchant for secretiveness, because football, soccer, and baseball all post their rosters very late every year as well. It doesn't hold true for the running sports or for the women's sports.

I know how frustrating it is for NPU fans to not have the rosters up until the last minute, because I hear it from them all the time. Sometimes I get caught in the middle, because as the broadcaster I'm privy to inside info but I'm not always at liberty to disclose it.

Illinois Tech is an orphan as far as boards go, because it's an independent member of D3. But, since the Scarlet Hawks are a Chicago-based team with a mostly Chicagoland-based roster, I'll post this here.

Joe Hakes pointed out to me today that IIT played Chicago State yesterday.  Countable game for CSU, exhibition for IIT.  Last year the Cougars beat the Scarlet Hawks by 82 points.  Yesterday Chicago State made two free throws with 00.1 on the clock to win by 8. As Joe said, this outcome says something about the direction of both programs. (I'd go beyond that and say that it shows something about the direction of both schools as well.)

The Scarlet Hawks will face two CCIW squads, Carthage and NPU, in January.

In that list of 20 above, there are only two low post, back-to-the-basket players (guys you would call "5s") - 6-8 Alex Sorenson (NCC) and 6-8 Trevor Seibring (IWU).  I'm sure I am missing a guy or two who will emerge this year - Augie has a truckload of candidates including 6-8 A.J. Dollmeyer, 6-7 Michael Hoekstra, 6-10 Micah Martin, and 6-9 Donovan Ferguson - but it seems there are fewer and fewer traditional "centers" each season.

And even with that in mind, Alex Sorenson is a bit of a stretch "5." Yeah, he can go down low and score there, but he can also go outside and knock down threes at a pretty efficient clip. I think it's just the way the game has evolved in recent years. It's a more perimeter-oriented game nowadays, for better or worse.

For me it's more than just seeing the names.

I look at successful athletic programs and not only do they produce well on the field - they present themselves professionally through their websites - up-to-date content is one attribute.  I want NPU to have similar aspirations.   Our sports website has come a long way over the last few years, but I think there is still a ways to go.  Timely rosters before each season is just one element.

Good luck to all the teams, players and coaching staffs for the new season.  Looking forward to some great games with an expanded conference schedule.

Let the games begin!

Believe me, I agree with you. But this is a coaches' thing rather than an athletic department thing.

Speaking of which, the NPU roster finally appeared yesterday.

And if that doesn't whet your appetite, this should: SID Kevin Shepke interviewed Tom Slyder for the 2016-17 season preview.

Looking forward to another CCIW hoops season and keeping track of the "board chatter".  Somehow, I think my Thunder-specific postings will wane as the season progresses.  I was looking forward to seeing if Wheaton could compete for the middle of the conference (ok, lower middle) with hopefully some good recruits.  However, with their unexpected roster losses(Dillard, Masten, Morrison), I will simply hope for some good wins wherever and whenever they come.   The leadership of Ricky Samuelson and development of Luke Peters will be of interest.  Any other significant contributors will frankly be a complete surprise.  What should not be a surprise will be a Schauer team that plays hard, looks to improve, and competes for 40 mins.

Otherwise, the most interesting question for me will be in seeing how high and far NPU goes.  With 2 pre-season AAs, deservedly so I believe, I would expect them to finish higher in the league than their pre-season 4th.   I'm sure Coach Slyder and crew are thinking that also and not receiving a NCAA tourney bid would be rather disappointing.  I'm not suggesting it will be easy, but a reasonable expectation and I really hope it happens.  NCC is the clear #1 favorite, but some question marks for #s2-4?  I'll be interested to see how well Augie re-tools after losing 5 starters (and same with EC).

Good luck to all the teams.
