I do not see a video link at the website of tonight's NPU opponent, the U of Dubuque, though I did learn that UD offers a doctorate in ministry.  UD was a very good team last year when I saw them beat NPU in Chicago.

AndOne, I think you missed my praise of Coach Raridon when you replied to my post.

Yes sir, perhaps I did. However, it seems there was a bit of damning with faint praise when you mentioned whining and solid coaching in the same sentence.  :-\

About time that Stanford steps up to solve this issue.  After all, the Stanford Cardinal is named for the color, not the bird.

The St. Louis Cardinals baseball team is named after the color rather than the bird.  They have cardinal in their uniforms

The University of Wisconsin colors are cardinal and white.  They have cardinal in their uniforms.  Lots of other college teams use cardinal as an official color.

North Central needs to ink a deal with Under Armor.

Wonder if those cardinals itch?  ;)

Carthage let this one slip away tonight.   They played a real solid first half and were up by 9 at the break.  They stretched it up to 14 a couple times and still led by 12 with about 14 minutes to go.  Then they went on a dry spell and only scored 2 points over the next 5 or so minutes and RF tied it up.   Carthage went back up by a couple, but RF just kept shooting the ball well from outside and knocked down their FT's.  Carthage needs to close out better on the threes as well.

Too many empty possessions between turnovers and offeniive fouls during the dry spell.  Going to have this with the young guys playing.  The frontline of Perry, Baltimore and Banks (all freshmen) will be quite the trio in future years, but for now, they are adapting to the speed and physical nature of the college game.  They all make some great plays, but then they resort into trying to make a move you can get away with in high school and that doesn't translate well to an experienced college team like RF.  They also got  pushed down too deep in the paint for some easy baskets.

Still, some promising moments thought out the game.  One of the big differences this year is the point guard play of Kevin Kozil.   They just didn't have that last year....he really does a nice job of running the offense and delivering some beautiful dimes.   He is just enough of an offensive threat to be guarded.  He had a few turnovers tonight that I'm sure he regretted, but as long as he keeps playing like he has so far, this team will continue to grow and it will exciting to see how the freshmen continue to develop.

Kruse started slow tonight, but had a fine all around game.  Perry was very involved early on, but then he didn't get as many touches as he should have.   They need to feed him more as he is very hard to handle with his size for even an experienced team like RF.

With the first six games at home, they really had a chance to potentially win them all.  Its such a huge advantage for this young team to have the benefit of playing at home before they go on a 6 game road trip which includes NC, Augie and NP.

As I was thinking they had this won under control, my first thought was how will they respond on the road and how will they handle a team with quickness (like NP).   Their first road test is with NC so that should be telling.   This team will get better over time as they learn to play together.   Of the top eight rotation, there are two seniors, one junior, two sophomores and three freshmen.

Wheaton 73, UW Platteville 67

All around, I thought this was a very nice win for the Thunder, mainly because a lot of players not named Aston Francis(9pts) played well.

Samuelson 16 pts, led all scorers
Kobe Eichelberger with the double/double, 11 pts/10 rebs
Luke Peters 15 pts, 7 rebs, 8 assts
Trevor Gunter, 12 pts, 8 rebounds

A home win vs UWP might not say too much.  But this was a much better overall effort by Wheaton (although the 11/22 FT% was abysmal).  There weren't nearly as many truly head scratching plays or errors that marked their earlier games.  They are more talented and athletic than I thought they'd be but still lacking in experience and a little raw.   They work hard, play unselfishly and have fun.    Still waiting for a couple key football guys too.  Stern test coming however in their next 3: @Chicago, @ Elmhurst, @ Augie.

I wonder if Principia's ever beaten a CCIW team before?

Augustana won easily over Fontbonne as expected, 106-66.  I feel for poor Roman Youngblut.  The Vikings were a perfect 27 of 27 at the free throw line before the freshman missed a meaningless attempt late in the game.  The Vikings finished the game 30-31 at the stripe.  How will Roman ever get out of Coach G's dog house?

Has any team ever gone 31-31 for a game?

Not in D3. The most FTs that any D3 team has made without missing one is 28; Albany went 28-28 against Potsdam State back in '94.

The 30 of 31 free throw makes I cited was based on Live Stats.  Upon reviewing the official box score, there was an additional miss.  Call it 30-32.

I wonder if Principia's ever beaten a CCIW team before?   Yes, Millikin lost to them previously, allowing Principia to break a horrendous losing streak.  After seeing Principia's shooting percentages for 2 and 3, and watching part of the game, the thought occurred to me-could Principia shoot any better if they took the same shots without any Millikin players on the floor?   :(

AppletonRocks

Glad my question could on the NCC color could fill up three pages of your page....you guys have jobs  ???

I did watch the game, obviously.....and my one observation was that there were referees in black and white plus 4 or 5 more in Cardinal and white.....wow those NCC kids like to bitch at referees.  Is that part of their heritage as well?  A few times were embarrassing if you were an NCC fan.  :-[   IMO, someone has some sportsmanship coaching to do.  :o

Really. That's probably right. The people on the floor didn't appear to offer much resistance. Sorry, but  losing to Principia, a team that has won jus 16 games in the last 5 years, is just downright embarassing. Almost anyone can beat almost anyone else on any given night but, from a competitive standpoint on a regular basis, it just seems like Millikin is going bsckwards instead of forward.

At least we all knew that Millikin would be bad again.  Alma, ranked #14 in the d3hoops preseason poll, lost to freakin' Finlandia!
