LaCrosse has played exactly one team with a winning record, and they lost that game. If Massey thinks Augie is only going to beat UWL by 3 points, how can he rank AC as high as 16th?
And, IWU above NCC who beat them?

I totally agree with Greg playing a non conference schedule against weaker teams may get you Wins but in the long run the committee looks at the strength of schedule!

BTW back when Carroll was in the CCIW the first time, the NCC Cards made a lot of trips to California and Florida playing D2's and Ranked NAIA's to get ready for the CCIW Season. So I believe playing a strong non conference schedule gets you noticed by the NCAA committee and gets you ready for the battles that are ahead in conference play! Racking up wins against teams that are weak hurt you in the long run!

Take it up with HAL. I just report the data.

That was not just a North Central thing. Other CCIW schools did that as well. North Park always started the season with a game against a D1 or D2 school (it was usually UIC), and would sometimes play scholie schools over Christmas break as well. In fact, the 1978-79 national championship team beat a D1 that later went on to play in the D1 tourney that March (Jacksonville), and the 1979-80 national championship team beat D1s Cal-Irvine and San Diego. Illinois Wesleyan was notorious for scheduling two or three D1s over Christmas break, and Augie played a lot of games against D1s and D2s during the Borcherding era. And it was pretty common to schedule tough NAIA teams, too; North Park regularly played St. Xavier back in the '80s when SXU was an NAIA powerhouse.

Different era, different scheduling parameters.

North Central leads Albion at the half, 32-26, but the noteworthy thing about this game is that Connor Raridon is sitting on the bench in street clothes with what appears to be either a cast or a wrap on his shooting hand.

Also, I noticed that Sam Fehrle is no longer on the NCC roster.

IWU above North Central who struggled mightily with Millikin.  Millikin!

The Sons of Warden have far bigger issues to worry about -- starting with righting the ship during what seems to have become their annual November/December struggles -- than where they are ranked relative to their previous opponents.

North Central beat Albion, 68-57. Jagger Anderson had a terrific night for NCC with 15 points, 3 steals, and a 6:1 a:to. Four other Cards scored in double figures, as Alex Sorenson had 14, Aiden Chang and Nick Chambers had a dozen apiece, and Nick Cappelletti had 11. Erwin Henry had 11 rebounds, as Todd Raridon essentially played a seven-man rotation tonight consisting of the six aforementioned players and Jaquan Phipps (the only other Card to appear, Jack Bronec, came in for five minutes).

UW-LaCrosse knocked off Augustana, 74-63. Augie was significantly outplayed in this one. The Doggies didn't close out on shooters in the corner, and they turned the ball over 19 times. I also think that UWL was much stronger around the basket than Augie.

The Rock Islanders were led by Jacob Johnston, who had 16 and 6 (although six turnovers as well) before fouling out. Dylan Sortillo had 15 and Chrishawn Orange added 11.

The CCIW will now brood over its comparatively lackluster 31-17 (.646) record until Friday, when the next game is played. That will be in Carver, where Augie will entertain Central, and if the Doggies don't get it together they will be stung on their home floor. The Dutch are 7-1 and look pretty sharp.

Yup.  Perimeter defense continues to the Achilles heel. If I was coaching against them I would run shooters off screens just as Carroll did against NPU.

Yup again. Central took it to WashU last weekend

Greek Tragedy

Definitely a surprise result as La Crosse had been "reeling" after a loss at Hope and a tough loss at home to Loras. So, I didn't think the Eagles would rebound at home to a good Augie team.

Raridon reportedly has a broken hand (that's from Albion, so?).  NCC still looks like a really good D3 team without him, but that's a big blow for the Cards.

NCC really took control of their game at Albion late in the first half around 8 points and kind of held it there threatening to blow it open a couple times.  But as they often do the Brits got it down to only 6 when NCC hit back-to-back three's within 25 seconds by Sorenson and  Cappaletti with just over 5 min. to play.

Fun for me was seeing Albion's 6-11 325lb Ryan Lowe matched with the 6-8 Sorenson for a couple minutes.

... and it's compounded by the fact that NCC's first big man off of the bench is apparently no longer with the team.

I suppose let the speculation begin? How long is an injury like a broken hand usually keep a basketball player out? A month, two months, the season? Then we're talking about redshirting? Well, expensive school? Probably can't afford another year? Who knows? It will be interesting as this progresses what the details will be.

Bronec played a bit, but Raridon didn't seem to have much faith in him.  Albion would be a pretty good team to kick those tires against.  There were 3 other kids in street clothes at the end of the bench but I wouldn't be able to identify them.

I should have mentioned foul trouble didn't help the Cards with Chambers and Henry both picking up 4 within a trip or two of each other and Sorenson's 3rd sandwiched in there, it helped Albion get a foothold back in a game that was teetering on getting away.
