The U of Minnesota's former wrestling coach, J Robinson, got slapped by the NCAA a few years ago for issuing press releases of committed players b/c he co-mingled those who had accepted scholarships with those who would walk on.  The NCAA deemed the practice deceptive as the releases implied that the commits were off the recruiting table by accepting schollies when some had not.

I know that it was Minnesota State rather than Minnesota, but in my minds' eye, J Robinson looks a lot like Craig T. Nelson.

You're spoiled by being a North Central fan. Black goes with everything.

I'm spoiled because of how much folks like Al Benedetti and Dick Wehrli have thrown the College's way over the years, for academics and for athletics.

And black goes especially well with Walnut and Bronze...

Final poll is out. Augie finished third, North Central was in the ORV category.

http://d3hoops.com/top25/men/2016-17/final

Seemed a bit harsh to 'poor' MIT.  They finished 21-7, were the last team to defeat national champion Babson, and got TWO points?!

Despite my CCIW loyalties, was glad to see Whitman stay ahead of Augie.  ONE loss all season beats the heck out of 9 losses, even if Augie did come within a blocked layup of the title.  Likewise Midd staying ahead of Williams - 4 vs. 9 losses is a pretty big gap.

Some years I think the voters put WAY to much emphasis on the tourney and ignore the rest of the season.  This year I have no MAJOR quibbles with the poll.

MIT was without their best player until the very end of the season.  When I vote, I do consider the whole year, although, if a team has gotten far enough in the tournament, they'll have played more games against great competition than most other schools.  In my final poll, I voted Augie 6th and Williams 13th - both much higher than I had them before the tournament.

Kiko:  this is what I was talking about:  http://wcfcourier.com/b-minnesota-uncovers-violations-in-wrestling-program-b/article_79e415eb-a046-543f-b3a6-0705e9bc56d5.html  Took less than a minute to find the story.

Not MN State.

In D3, there are no national letters of intent, as we all know.

Illini to hire Nancy Fahey of D3 Wash U for their vacant head women's coach job...

http://www.news-gazette.com/sports/illini-sports/mens-basketball/2017-03-22/whitman-set-make-another-hire.html

Wow, that's kind of a shocker. Thought for sure Nancy would be WashU lifer. But evidently wanted the D1 challenge after putting up probably the best women's D3 resume ever.

I'm not terribly surprised by it, given that the Illinois AD used to hold the same job at Wash U and was thus Nancy Fahey's former boss. Now, if he had hired Mark Edwards, too, instead of Brad Underwood ... that would've been a headline-grabber.

So where would you have put Augie if Flannery had not blocked the layup and Augie won the title? 5th?' Maybe even as high as 4th?  Presumably Ypsi would have bumped them up to 2nd at least in that scenario?  ???

Whitman knew how good of a coach she is, so not surprising he targeted her. More surprised by the jump after 31 years at one institution though.

Her decision might depend upon the "deal" along with the challenge of D1.  One has to think a full retirement from WashU in the cards with 31 years.  Working for an AD at D1 whom is a known quantity and relationship does not hurt either if you make the leap.  Fahey is an exceptional coach and recruiter as well.  Would not be surprised if an assistant or two along with a couple of players follow her to Illinois as she certainly had two D1 capable players on her WashU squad.
Conversely, I am not sure I would like to follow her at WashU as new coach will have big expectations from the WashU faithful.

Pretty sure the WashU cupboard will be a bit bare. I am told they will hold a search and that basically don't expect anyone close to hand the job to - or in other words, there isn't anyone in line for the job.

When the volleyball job opened, they hired the head coach away from Chicago who had taken a moribund Maroons program to four straight NCAA appearances in five years.  WUSTL had an interim with head coaching experience, but did a national search.

I have to think that this is the level to expect from the next hire.  As with the volleyball program, there are not a lot of jobs in Division III that are better than this...

Former Elmhurst head coach Mark Scherer will be Matt Nadelhoffer's replacement at Millikin.

Over the course of their search, MU narrowed the field of applicants to two finalists, the other being long time Augie assistant Tom Jessee.

Returners to next season's Millikin squad were to be introduced to, and meet with Coach Scherer at 5:00 today.

Yep. Here's MU's announcement.

As I sense that somebody's gonna ask this question, Mark Scherer will be the fourth head coach in CCIW men's basketball history who has served in that capacity at two different conference institutions. He follows in the footsteps of Bosko Djurickovic (North Park and Carthage), Rees Johnson (Carroll and North Park), and Scott Trost (Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan).
