The Cardinals were led in scoring by Erwin Henry with 16 points, while Jack Bronec and Aiden Chang both had 11.

Mark, I can't be the only one here who is both impressed AND surprised by that result.  The score versus the opponent is very impressive.  Almost shocking, if IIT is working with basically the same roster I saw last year.  What is as surprising to me is no mention of Sorenson and Raridon.  Did they play, and, if so, how does Raridon seem to be progressing in his recovery from last year's injury?

Improvements have certainly been made since the first scrimmage vs. Univ of Chicago against who they tied the first half, and lost the second by 6 before winning the 3rd half by 10. In that contest, Sorenson, Raridon, and Chang all had 11 points. The Cardinals then beat Concordia Wisconsin by 11 in their exhibition game, improving on their performance against Chicago. Don't have the stats from that one.

Yesterday afternoon, many things clicked to the point that the Cards looked like a well oiled machine for a large portion of the proceedings. As far as the quality of the competition, I've been told by different sources that IIT is probably better overall than last season's contingent. It's just that NCC was very good. And, their impressive effort was produced despite not having Alex Sorenson in the lineup. He could have played if necessary, but was held out due to what is currently commonly referred to as "general soreness." The thinking was why possibly agggravate something in a scrimmage. Plus, the play of the much improved Jack Bronec, coupled with everyone else's performance, basically eliminated the need for Alex's services. It is anticipated he'll be 100% or very close by Saturday's first game.
Connor Raridon, functioning primarily as a defacto PG, played and scored 8 points.
However, make no mistake, this scrimmage win was built on superior defense. There are few things basketball wise that make Todd Raridon happier than good/great defense. After the final buzzer yesterday, he did a pretty fair amount of smiling.

Thanks, Q.  As always, very good, very illuminating.

Look forward to the opener Wednesday night @The Shirk.

Are you predicting a starting line-up?

Coleman

Bonnett
Beasley
O'Neil / Burdine

?

Looks like a trey festival to me.   :)   And, very up tempo.

Here is my 2017-18 IWU season preview...

http://www.iwuhoops.com/preview2017-18.html

I took a pass on some of the questions (funniest guy; best dresser; etc.), but otherwise scored about 100% on the 'lightning round'.  And I was at the Hope game and the ISU game where Tom Gramkow nailed the game-winner.

Apparently I think like Ron Rose - not sure if that is good for me or bad for him! ;D

Let's face it Ypsi, you and I are "old as dirt."  We are coming up now on our 51st IWU basketball season.  Time flies when you're having fun, right?

Let the games begin.
