They look to be one of the top teams in the nation -- with a possible national title upcoming.

As much as I have talked them up, the only other game in which they looked to be an elite team was against Tufts.

I had handed them the UAA even before I had even heard the name Jack Nolan, but as you all will see, the freshmen at Emory have made the Eagles a much better team than I expected.  And, their senior point guard is back and he is good (479 career assists).

Emory used to charge a fee for their high definition broadcast and I assume they still do.  That game may be worth the charge.

31-15 seems pretty good to me.

With a tough weekend performance, the CCIW slips to 33-20 vs D3 non conference competition..... and if you look at the appropriate thread under multi-region topics, lo and behold, that record of 13 games over .500 is exactly where the CCIW was at this time of the year in the 2016-2017 season!!!! ;)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Anyone know why Jordan Thomas didn't play this weekend vs. Calvin?

Perhaps he and Ben Widdes decided to hang out at Southridge Mall and do some Christmas shopping. ;)

After an 8 day break for exams, the Elmhurst College Bluejays (5-2, 2-1) return to action tonight against Buena Vista (5-2, 2-0 ) at RA Faganel Hall.

Three things I'm keeping an eye on tonight:

1) Derek Dotlich, Lance Gardner, and Ryan Patton are EC's next leading scorers after Jake Rhode and Jeremy Ireland. Since I would expect that opponents will be focusing more and more attention on Rhode and Ireland, there might be more opportunities for these three to get points.
2) EC Rebounding. The Jays have a +10.4 boards/game and are averaging 15+ offensive boards/game (tops in the CCIW).
3) #24 Lavon Thomas for EC. In just his 3rd appearance of the season, Thomas came in off the bench and had 16 points and 8 rebounds Dec 9 vs Wheaton.  Hope to see him follow up with more strong performances.

I guess that Emory's $6.4 billion endowment doesn't stretch as far as one might think it would.

Does anyone besides Sager know why Jordan Thomas didn't play this weekend?

Ha, ha!

You would know better than I, but it seems to me that the value of the PR from the free distribution of the broadcast would be much greater than the value of the upcharge.  Emory must give away a lot of free codes to recruits, family and alumni.  Maybe more people pay the fee than I think.

Michael,

According to the Kenosha News, it said Jordan Thomas had been sick for a few days.  Expected to play tonight and I see he started.

Maybe that is how Emory keeps a $6.4 B endowment :D :D.
Seriously, Emory current campus was enabled by $1.0 million and gift of 75 acres from Asa Chandler, founder of Coca-Cola. Asa's brother was president of Emory. He made other gifts in subsequent years.

And, Robert Woodruff, Presient of Coca-Cola, and the Woodruff Foundation has given close to $1.0 billion over the years since 1979. The 1979 gift separately included a 1979 value of $105 million of Coca-Cola stock.  Given the stock splits, dividends and price increases that has to be close to another $1.0 billion.
Having lived in Atlanta, Emory's now 740 acre campus is prime real estate just outside the City of Atlanta.

New to the boards and a long-time Thunder fan. A major gut-check for my squad tomorrow as they play at No. 7 Whitworth. Aston will get his shots, Samuelson needs more shots if we stand a fighting chance. I was in attendance for Wheaton's frustrating loss to Alma last week and overheard the Alma head coach telling his players to "find 1 and 22" on every defensive possession down the stretch, which highlights criticisms of the Thunder mentioned before that we simply don't have another option to go to offensively. I really feel that Spencer Peterson needs to step up in that regard, seeing that he is the only true muscle we have inside and he actually has a decent post game when he actually decides to set up shop on the block. Could do without his 12% shooting from the three point arc, and would much rather him stay down low and be patient enough to draw fouls and take advantage of his 80+% freethrow shooting. If Whitworth only has to worry about Francis and Samuelson, it could be a very long night for my Thunder in Spokane.

Just like Washington—the rich get richer.
Beyond a school that can certainly handle whatever cost may be involved in streaming a game, what I hate about charging to see a game is that it just particularly seems like a screw job to fans of the visiting team. How many Green Team fans are going all the way to Atlanta? Same applies to any fans whose team is playing a considerable distance from home. They should be able to view their team play for free. Who knows what Midwest kid might see the broadcast and decide to investigate Emory as a possible college choice. JMHO.

Welcome to the board duckfan!

I have not seen Whitworth play so I'm not sure how good they are.  Puget Sound seems to be their only quality win along with edging NCC ( another team that I'm equally miffed about) on a neutral court.  But I trust the pollsters and their ranking.  In matching up with Wheaton, seeing a 6'8" 240 lb Ben Bishop and 6'6" 218 lb Jared Christy gives me more than a little pause defensively.  The Thunder have had to deal with someone like that practically every game, sometimes successfully sometimes not so much.  Luke Peters will try to contain College and if he can, then who knows?  Kobe Eichelberger is due – if only for the fact that the Pirates might not know he can only drive right.  Samuelson still leading D3 in 3pt% and is looking very comfortable out there.  Maybe an opened up west coast style will free him up more?  Certainly someone else needs to step up with some offense.  Can we stay within 10 on rebounding?
