I guess Wash U now knows how the Titans felt against them the other day, with AC up 39-20 at the half.  All Augie so far.  Wash U looks like a totally different team.

Might just be something with the gameplans, but Coleman getting less and less minutes each of the last three contests, seemingly falling out of the rotation in favor of Gregoire who provides more length (6-4 compared to a very generous 6-2 for Coleman) and similar shooting. Knobloch also pretty much out of the rotation against Birmingham with just three minutes and another 0-fer afternoon.

Great bounce-back game for Wolfe who had struggled in his last few as well, netting a career-high 10 pts.

Knobloch suddenly started the last couple of games before today in place of Coleman, and appears to have done a more abrupt flameout than his predecessor. Yesterday he started and, in 18 minutes of PT, went O fer 5 (all threes) with O assists and 3 TOs. Today, he didn't start and only played 3 minutes, missing both of the 2 shots he took. He has a history of being a good long distance shooter but lately, not so much. He also appears to be slow afoot, thus likely a liability on the defensive end.
Perhaps the problem is that he is a one dimensional, three point shooter, and when his shots from downtown aren't falling Ron Rose has several more versatile options available?

Zach Knobloch was one of many Titans who had the flu today.  I don't think he played at all today - I believe that is a mistake in the boxscore.  In the WJBC pregame they said he was out with the flu, then Ron Rose talked about it after the game as well.

Thinking about the Top 10 match-up between Augustana and Washington University.

Two seasons ago, then No. 1 Augustana jumped out to the 8-0 and then 15-2 lead in St. Louis before taking a 10 point lead in to intermission.  Washington University tied the game 51-51 seven minutes in the to the second half and would eventually build a 6 point lead before the offense stalled.  The Vikings would win the game at the line, 70-67.

That was one of my favorite games of that season to watch. I still remember three Augie starters crouched at the scorer's table in frustration for about five or six minutes as Wash U went on its big second-half run, because there was no stoppage and they thus couldn't get into the game.

It's funny. There's over six hundred people in the Wash U Field House -- and yet the only things I can hear on the webcast, aside from sneaker squeak, the P.A., and ref whistles -- are Jay Murry's play-by-play and the megadecibel bellowing of Grey Giovanine. :D

Clearly, Augie the better team tonight, over Wash U, 72-57.  AC never really challenged in this game.

Impressive win by Augie, which led wire to wire and never looked back after jumping out to a 14-3 lead. Every time that the Bears tried to make a run to cut into the big lead that Augie had taken into the second half, the Doggies thwarted it and built the lead back up. Augie had very solid three-point shooting and did well from the FT line as well. Big games from Ebel and Orange.

SO - WashU gives IWU one of its worst beatdowns in years.  Augie beats down WashU wire-to wire.  All we need now is IWU totally thumping Augie on Wednesday, and the insanity of trying to predict scores will be complete! ;D

You guys have a slightly different version of the story than I do.

Not a lot of similarities between the games tonight in St. Louis and last week in Bloomington.

Washington University had the game within 9 with three minutes left in the first half.

The Bears came out strong in the second half and quickly cut the lead to 10.

They fought back from another Vikings run to cut the lead to 10 again with 8 minutes left and to 8 with 5 minutes left.  Hit the season average in free throws and this game is within 4-5.  11 points with two minutes left.  You guys know how late game situations go.

Clearly Augustana won the defensive battle as well, but Washington University brought the defense as well and held the Vikings scoreless for three to four minute stretches throughout.  The Vikings were held under their season average.

I know I am not allowed to blame the rust or the referees (do not get me started), so I'll leave it at that.

Amazing how a guy who doesn't play at all can appear in a box score. Who is inputting this stuff?
Or, unbeknown to the broadcasters, did he make somewhat of a recovery and give it a go?

Augustana presented two big problems for Wash-U tonight:  the Vikings' height in the paint was equal to Wash-U, and their ability to defend Wash-U's motion and screening action.

Augie's height kept the Bears from getting nigh-low passes into the low post, and they couldn't lob the ball over the top from the wings to cutters coming off screens.  Wash-U's prowess on the offensive glass was also negated.  And, the Vikings were able to evade screens and play tight defense to frequently keep the guards from starting the screening process.  Net result...Wash-U was forced to play one-on-one isolation offense deep in the shot clock.  That is well outside the comfort zone for the Bears.

With that said, Wash-U was still able to get the deficit whittled to 8 with around 7 minutes left, and had the ball with a chance to get within two possessions.  However, an offensive foul away from the ball and basket on the ensuing play pivoted the game to the Vikings once and for all.

According to the WIAC board, Carroll's mainstay PG Ben Widdes has transferred to UWEC and will play right away for the Blugolds.

The gallows will be ready if UWEC plays at Carroll during Widdes' tenure in Eau Claire.  :-*

The big early lead by Augie sucked the energy out of the Wash-U faithful.  Wasn't a lot for them to cheer about until the Bears got within 8; then the crowd got into it as a timeout was called.  Their enthusiasm was quickly curbed by the previously-referenced offensive foul committed out of that timeout.
