North Central 87
Elmhurst 74

The Blue Jays tried to make this one interesting all the way down to the end with some hot shooting, but tonight the Cardinals had answers.

Erwin Henry 18

Connor Raridon 15, 7 reb, 12 ast*
Matt Cappelletti 14, 7 reb

Aiden Chang 10

Jake Rhode 18
Derek Dotlich 14, 7 reb

*Stay tuned for special announcement from AndOne, but records were in fact broken.

This, combined with most of the other CCIW results, made it a good evening in Naperville.

When's the last time that Augie was outrebounded by 11 by another CCIW team at Carver?

Man the last 30 seconds of that game seemed like it lasted 20 minutes - time outs and fouls just about non-stop!

"Bumped each other"? Watch it again. One tackled the other, albeit in the context of trying to steal the ball. And to see the full context of what's behind this, you need to see Knobloch's shove of Lake at the 1:14:22 mark in the second half.

Wow, just watched both of the play and man, are you exaggerating the heck out of what happened.

First half, aggressive foul, no real standing over the man, just a pause and walking away.

Second half, aggressive foul, probably used to bumping off of tough CCIW big men under the post and forgot he was playing North Park, so he'd have to go extra soft to avoid knocking Lake down.

A whole lotta nothing.  Two fouls.  That's it.

Mr. Ypsi

I spent some time on the CCIW site this evening, but couldn't find details on the upcoming conference tourneys.  It is now looking more and more likely that both the men and women will be heading to Bloomington.  Is there any overlap in the tourney schedules that could make that problematic?

(I'm definitely NOT uncorking the champagne just yet, but both the men and women are 2-up on their nearest competitor(s).  Wednesday will be huge for both: Titan men @ Augie (a win and it is nearly a done deal; a loss and it is nearly a toss-up).  Carthage women @ Wheaton (if Carthage wins - a definite possibility IMO - it is all over: the Titans are NOT gonna lose 3 games!).)

3 weeks ago, Jan 6, in Rock Island-Millikin 36 rebounds, Augustana 26.  Granted, 10 is not 11, but...

Through ten CCIW games Augustana has a rebound margin of +1.5, ranking fifth in the league.  Hardly the dominating force of some past years.

Now with Augie losing again, perhaps the ranking issues discussed here earlier can be better sorted out.  Yes, I know Augie is still a very good team and all that . . . but this loss at home surely will bring them down to earth to some degree.  MU is a dangerous team . . . with lots of talent, just not so well-organized as yet.  Seems they got it together pretty well vs. WC last night, a big big win.

Now the Titans have to go up to Carver and show that first big win over Augie was not a fluke.  Spread the floor, drive the lanes, just like in the last game -- take it to the rim hard, and kick out for treys, when there.  Gregoire gaining in confidence, doing a nice job on D and the boards too.

Six games to go.

Boy, I've really missed you, bopol. ::)

Missed you too Greg.

I'm laughing my ass off about the idea of a North Park prof sending a letter over that.  That's just a joke, right?  Please tell me it is.

Ypsi asked the same over on the women's board too and if memory serves I think I know the answer.

The overlap wouldn't be an issue. They'd do the women's semis on the Thursday, men's semis on the Friday, and do the title games back to back on the Saturday. I think I'd seen something about that on the CCIW site somewhere along the line, but I don't remember for sure.

I love being 2 games up now, but I don't see a win in Rock Island as being a clincher at all.  The Titans will still have:

vs Wheaton - game at Wheaton was decided in final seconds
vs Carroll - should win
at Millikin - stranger things have happened then that game being close (MU led at halftime in Bloomington)
at Carthage - the Red Men won in Bloomington
vs North Central - game in Naperville was decided at the buzzer

Just too many losable games left after Wednesday to look at a win in Rock Island as the title.

And remember, a loss to Carthage and then a 1st place tie with Carthage would mean Carthage owns the tie-breaker.  Carthage is now right in the middle of the CCIW championship race w/ IWU, Augie, and North Central.  (Wheaton is out of the 1st place discussion.)

Titan Q

It is a 4-team race for 1st...

- Illinois Wesleyan 9-1 (at Augustana, vs Wheaton, vs Carroll, at Millikin, at Carthage, vs North Central)

- Augustana 7-3 (vs Illinois Wesleyan, at Carroll, at North Central, at Millikin, vs North Park, vs Elmhurst)

- North Central 7-3 (at Carthage, vs North Park, vs Augustana, vs Carroll, at Wheaton, at Illinois Wesleyan)

- Carthage 6-3 (vs North Central, vs Millikin, at Carroll, at Elmhurst, at Wheaton, vs Illinois Wesleyan, at North Park)

To the contrary, sounds like there was a lot of stopping... :P ::) ;D :D
