IWU closes out the rout in Kenosha, 92-63.  Individual stats don't mean much, since Gregoire was the only starter to exceed 23 minutes.  The last three minutes the five Titans on the floor were guys that quite frankly I'd never heard of.

NCC is gonna beat Wheaton - up 15 w/ 90 seconds to go.

North Central 72
Wheaton 55

Aston Francis scored 20, but he was 5-24 from the field.

The surprising thing about this game was that NCC won fairly easily in spite of the fact that Alex Sorenson fouled out with over nine minutes left in the game.

He went to the bench with four fouls at that point, then came back in the final two minutes.  The Cardinals won fairly easily because Wheaton shot horribly for most of the game.

Mr. Ypsi

With NCC already having a fifth loss, and Wheaton taking the fifth tonite, the conference tourney will be in B'town or RI (I think i recall that Augie would win the tie-break if they win and IWU loses - correct?)

I suspect that Francis is still a heavy favorite for MOP, but he certainly didn't help himself tonight.  Not only was he 5-24 overall, he was 1-13 from downtown!  Them ain't MOP numbers! :o

It didn't hurt that a guy who was ice cold kept firing away and giving NCC possession after possession.  With that said, I haven't seen much of Wheaton this year---but nineteen misses?!  Yikes!  Talk about it being all about one guy----.  If I'm playing the Crusaders in the tournament, I'm going to double or over play #1 and force him to take tough shot after tough shot.  If he knocks them down so be it.

AC 77, NPU 60

Colin Lake: 20 pts, 4 stls
Matt Szuba: 11 pts
Veggie Tangen: 7 rebs
Toby Marek: 3 stls

Nolan Ebel: 17 pts
Chrishawn Orange: 16 pts, 3:0 a:to
Brett Benning: 15 pts, 10 rebs, 4 stls
Dylan Sortillo: 11 pts, 4:0 a:to

Not much to say about this one. Augie was efficient, if not outstanding, on offense, and sharp on defense. NPU hit a flurry of treys early, but Augie eventually extended the defense and, since the cut-and-pass game wasn't there, it was chuck and backpedal all night for the Park.

Colin Lake hit four treys tonight, which means that he goes into the final game of his career Tuesday night with 247 treys to his credit. He has a chance to catch NPU's all-time leader, Rick Alspach, who ended his days as a Viking with 251.

NCC"s live stats screwed up, then, because they had Sorenson fouling out at the 9:17 mark, I believe.

This game should have been close.  But it wasn't because the coach didn't make the right adjustments.
1. The lesson Bill Harris learned with Kent Raymond don't let your shooter get gassed out he will shoot a terrible percentage.  Francis was gassed the whole game because of the way he was used.
2. NCC forced Francis to shoot threes in the corner were he does not shoot at a very good percentage.  Nothing was done to combat this strategy.  Peterson has the best screen on Wheatons team and opens up the outside shot when it is covered closely or double teamed like Francis was.
3.  You lost the mental edge.  NCC new they were in Wheatons head when all the players were clapping.  Very effective mental tactic by NCC.
4. Spencer Peterson only played 11 min.  Does the coach hate him or does he not see that Peterson is NCC kryptonite.  Peterson needed to play more minutes than 11 with only two fouls two win the mental game.

This seems to be all Captain Obvious stuff.

It was a 22-22 tie in the first half, and then the Titans just ran away and hid.

In fact, Carthage was UP 22-20, then the Titans went on an epic 58-18 run!! :o  That gave not only the starters, but most of the usual rotation the rest of the night off.  Should be a well-rested team to face NCC on Tuesday.

* Alex O'Neill: 17 pts, 8 reb, 7-10 FG
* Brady Rose: 13 pts, 3 reb
* Colin Bonnett: 13 pts, 3 reb, 4 assists
* Miles Curry: 12 pts, 3 reb

* Brad Kruse: 14 pts, 7 reb, 4 assists
* Kienan Baltimore: 14 pts, 5 reb, 5 assists

Terrific effort on both ends of the floor by the Titans.

For me, the big takeaway tonight was how good 6-9 C Alex O'Neill was.  O'Neill, who really didn't play any real game basketball the last 2 seasons (Creighton walk-on in 2015-16, D2 St. Cloud St last year), struggled for most of the early part of the year...but is really coming on now.  He is big, athletic, and skilled and now that he's playing with confidence, just looks like a completely different player.  O'Neill now being a big factor in the low post makes the Titans really hard to guard.

This is IWU's 30th CCIW title in 72 years of conference play.  Really proud of Ron Rose and the Titans - picked 4th and have had a great CCIW season.  It's very hard to go 7-1 on the road in the CCIW.

Big game Tuesday vs North Central in Bloomington.
