On the topic of a CCIW HOF, Mel Peterson certainly belongs in the Wheaton College HOF, but I am fairly certain that the years he played at Wheaton were years that WC had dropped out of the CCIW, so perhaps he would not technically be eligible for their HOF.

Nope. Mel Peterson was a three-time All-CCIW first-teamer, in 1956-57, 1957-58, and 1958-59.

Wow. I'm correcting an Armerding on a point of Wheaton trivia. This is the best ego stroke I've had in weeks. ;) :D

It appears the IWU women may be hosting the CCIW conference tournament this weekend. (assuming they beat Elmhurst on Tue)
If the IWU men beat NC on Tue and end up hosting the men's tournament, how will that work out with both tournaments in Bloomington?

I'm not sure this has happened before in the 14 yrs or so of having the conf tournament.

Anyone have a thought or the answer?

Chris Martin @CCIWCommish
Tuesday wins by IWU men & women put both #CCIW BKB tourneys in Bloomington.  If so, women will play Thur & Sat and men Fri & Sat. IWU women loss to EC moves the tourney to Wheaton on tiebreaker. IWU men loss to NCC & Augie win vs EC, the tourney is at Augie. #cciwbkb

Marc Horner stole Jeff Hay's high-school girlfriend. Seriously.

Not cool at all!

We used to harass Chris about how she could've ever dated someone who would choose to attend Illinois Wesleyan.

And, yeah, "Horner stole your girlfriend!" was definitely something that got yelled when the Titans came to the crackerbox.

Francis should stand out. He's a fantastic talent. I've never seen anyone at the D3 level who can so seemingly effortlessly make shots from as far away as he does. He is a standout performer. However, as spectacular as he often is, he's also pretty one-dimensional. Rose and Sorenson are both more complete players. Rose is the preeminent back court player in the conference, and Sorenson is it's dominant big.

"One-dimensional"? Good grief, Mark.

* Francis is sixth in the league in rebounding at 6.0 rpg. No other guard is ranked in the top ten.
* Francis is sixth in assists at 3.87 apg.
* Francis is tied for fifth in the league in FT% at .833. That's in spite of the fact that he's attempted an astronomical 120 free throws, which averages out to eight per game, and nobody else in the league is close to that number of attempts.
* Francis is third in the league in steals at 1.47 spg.
* Francis is tenth in the league in a:to, which is astonishing when you consider his shooting volume and the fact that he's Wheaton's bailout guy.

Was last night's game the only time that you've seen Aston Francis play this season? Because it sure seems like it, based upon what you've posted.

Thanks for saving me a length post GS.  This one really got my attention and only partially b/c of who I root for.

Glad to make your day Greg.  Great reminder for me to do my homework before opening my mouth, or moving my fingers.  :D

In keeping with that theme, what years did Wheaton drop out of the CCI(W)?  I'm still a bit of a sports nut, but certainly not a member (obviously) of the CCIW facts HOF.

And while we're on old trivia, I was at a WC-NP game as a youth that I know has been referred to on this forum, when NP scored what would have been the game winner at the final buzzer, a basket that was waved off by Wheaton's clock official (Frank Bellinger) who happened to be the father of my best friend.  Just for the record, to my eyes the shot was good.  Even as a youth, I was embarrassed.  So maybe that's two smiles in one day from an old WC grad.

Thanks ...... it appears we may see a doubleheader on Sat as well as Friday.

I'm guessing the women would play at 4 or 5, and the men at 7.

Wheaton student section "taunting profiles" for last night's game vs NCC...

https://twitter.com/AlexSCOREnson/status/965077257558675456

Wow.  Not exactly something to make the Wheaton community proud.  Organized taunting using family members names and other personal information?  How about cheering on your team in a positive manner?  Oh, I almost forgot.........

* Ryken's Rowdies - Does the President of Christ centered Wheaton College really condone the actions of this group of buffoons? A better name for the group would be the Goon Squad. And the President lends his name to this crap?

* Bottom left corner of the "Scouting Report." It's North Central so ANYTHING goes. Really? ANYTHING GOES?  ???

* Making fun, or trying to, of guys names, talking about ex-girlfriends, mentioning players parents and sisters names? I'm sure this has something to do with a basketball game, I just can't figure out what that is.

* Screaming (the obvious) "daddy's boy" at Connor, yelling "I see your bald spot" at the coach, and signs like "Aiden Chang combs his eyebrows." You need to come at us with more than that very weak s—t boys. By the way, the guy who combs his eyebrows just hung 20 on your asses.  ;)

* As far as your frequent chants of "North Central sucks," check the box score boys. I think you'll see the (not very loud) Thunder
got a 17 point beatdown. Who sucks now? Seems like the only ones doing the sucking today are dressed in orange.  ;D

And if this was the NCC football teams cheat sheet no one would be saying a word. This is a non issue in my view. I have heard stuff from other teams fans, NCC included, that make this sheet look like a hymnal. I don't get the issue.

Agree USee, seen and heard much worse over the years.  And who are you talking smack to, AO?  Doubt that any of the students involved are posting on this board and I don't think that Usee, duckfan, etc had anything to do with putting together that sheet.  ???

I didn't even hint at suggesting USee or duckfan were associated in any way. Where are you getting that?

Simply asking who you are talking smack to on this board, based on your comments in bold, since we all know that any Wheaton posters on this board weren't responsible for putting that sheet together.

Yeah, the women's title game would be at 5, with the men's to follow.

This whole Wheaton cheat-sheet thing strikes me as being really overblown. My first thought when I saw it was, "Man, this generation of Wheaton students is even lamer than I thought." Cheat sheets are for amateurs. We didn't use cheat sheets in the North Park student section when I was an undergrad. We did our homework, worked up our taunts, and passed them around by word of mouth. For example, one of the members of the NPC cross-country team had a younger brother who attended Augustana. He asked his younger brother if he knew any of the guys on the Augie basketball team. His brother told him that star forward Shane Price, an African-American from the South Side of Chicago, was in his Swedish class, apparently because someone had told him that it was an easier path through Augie's foreign-language requirement than Spanish or French. That was all the info we needed. We spent forty minutes yelling, "Shane, talar du Svenska?", "Vad heter din hund, Shane?" and "Shane, vilken är din favoritfärg?" You never saw a more puzzled-looking basketball player than Shane Price that night.

Stuff about girlfriends (or ex-girlfriends) is probably excessive. But "excessive" is essentially the functioning state of college kids, and we all know it. Their judgment and their sense of boundaries aren't very developed yet, but those of us who are quick to wag our fingers at them tend to forget how we acted at that age.

I think that USee is right; compared to what I read or see other student sections chanting at ballgames, the material on this particular cheat sheet is extremely tame.

Wheaton was out of the CCIW from 1959-60 thru 1966-67, although Wheaton didn't resume participation in CCIW football until the 1970 season, probably due to scheduling commitments.

I've never heard that story, so it obviously predates my years at NPC. I'm sure that Dennis Prikkel recalls it, though. Dennis doesn't forget games like that.

Last night I mentioned how big Alex O'Neill's improvement has been for the Titans.  The 6-9 center's last 4...

vs Wheaton: 14 pts, 6 reb, 4-7 FG
at Carroll: 14 pts, 5 reb, 6-6 FG
at Millikin: 11 pts, 5 reb, 5-7 FG
at Carthage: 17 pts, 8 reb, 7-10 FG

O'Neill averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds in those games, and shot 22-30 (.733).

The way he is playing lately make IWU a much more complete team.

I'll kind of echo Greg's sentiment on this. I mean, even reading Alex's Tweet when he found the sheet, he was kind of laughing at it and taking its references to his liking WWE and Bob's Burgers in stride. I can say I'm not super thrilled that you'd include family on there or invoke them, but even then, unless you're doing something like chanting "P.L.O." at Steve Kerr, you're not so far over the line that there's a major problem. I still wouldn't invoke family in general, but that's me. Granted, I didn't attend a ton of NCC basketball games as a fan, and even when I was in high school, I went to what was effectively a Wheaton feeder school, and most of our student section chants were tame and stereotypical, and even those were frowned upon by some overzealous parents. Apparently it's "un-Christianlike" or something. That's beside the point though.

Part of the allure of college basketball is the atmosphere that these student sections create. If you can create some semblance of home court advantage, by all means go for it. Obviously there's a line not to cross, and not having been at the game last night I have no clue if it was or not. But I don't want us to turn into the WIAA and start banning all student section chants because we want to coddle the players. There's a level of satisfaction to being able to shut up fans in their building (or in your own if the other team's fans travel well) with outstanding play like my personal favorite, the Eff You Three (like when Vince Kmiec buried a corner one of those in the 2012 CCIW title game right in front of Wheaton's student section complete with keeping the arm extended for added effect.) It's part of the allure of road wins and the general concept of home court advantage.
