Ebel was the key for Augustana tonight.  I don't care about any of the statistics.  Just such a steadying presence and leader on the court.

Augie gets its rematch with UW-Oshkosh, as the Rock Islanders walked off the floor tonight with a tough 86-78 win over John Carroll.

Congratulations to Augustana, by the way, for becoming only the second program in D3 tourney history to reach the Elite Eight four or more years in a row. Potsdam State reached the Elite Eight a record five straight seasons from 1979 thru 1983.

Out rebounded, 21 turnovers and 60% from the line, but again held opponent 20 pts under their average.  Great defensive effort!

Unbelievable run for Augie, that senior class knows nothing but Elite 8 games. They are spoiled rotten, nearly 400 other schools never got that opportunity during those years!  :) ;D

Congrats to Coach GG and the Vikings, what a program they have going right now.

The senior class of Augustana College as a whole might be spoiled, Smitty, but as far as the seniors who actually play basketball for Augie (Dylan Sortillo and A.J. Dollmeyer) are concerned, "spoiled" has nothing to do with it. Nobody's handed anything to them. Those guys have gone out there and earned everything they've achieved. Sortillo in particular is having a whale of a tournament; through three games he's averaging 22 ppg.

Augustana is a rival of my alma mater, and I don't like Augie. But I do respect what that program has accomplished over the past four years, because those accomplishments are pretty darned impressive.

Augie = good school, good players, good coaching.
And it doesn't hurt to have four home games in the national tournament either!  ;)

I was using "spoiled" in a very "tongue and cheek" tone. Of course they have worked hard to achieve that. In a great program like that, nothing is given.

Ah, but I definitely agree with the use of the word when used to describe Augustana students as a whole, in particular the class of '18, when used in the context of students who root for their school's men's basketball team.

How many home games did Augie have in the national tournament last year?

And it doesn't hurt to have four games at home, because Augie earned that right by how they performed in the regular season and conference tournament.

Two at their Wisconsin campus branch, two at their Michigan branch, and two at their Virginia location——so six! 🙃

Under the current system they probably did. My complaint ISN'T with your school, Augie6.
Even with knowing things aren't going to change anytime soon, if ever, I've made no secret of my conviction that it's just not equitable to allow a team to have it's first four games at home. A team with that advantage should advance to the Final Four.
It's just a personal belief, OK? Hopefully, those are still legal.

I notice you didn't take issue with my first line, 6. 😉

You seem to have an issue with this, but haven't offered a workable alternative.  So I'll ask -- how do you solve this if the four hosts in one corner of the draw all win their first two games?

I watched most of the Augie/John Carroll 2nd half.  I thought the Vikings played about as well as I've seen them play.  John Carroll was making some really tough shots the first 13 or 14 minutes of that 2nd half, but Augie really buckled down on defense down the stretch.  And offensively, the Vikings just had so many different players make big shots in that stretch when they seized control.  With Sortillo, Ebel, and Orange, Augie has 3 guys capable of taking and making the really big shots.

Augie/Oshkosh should be a great game.  I would be very surprised if the Vikings lose.  I see a veteran Augie team that is completely locked in, playing in front of a huge home crowd, that is very poised to get to Salem and win a national championship.

What Augie has done the last 4 years is pretty special. Really, really impressive.  No matter what anyone thinks of Coach G's sideline demeanor (which really is not that big a deal), that guy can flat-out coach -- which includes recruiting, preparing his team, and in-game coaching.
