I think that St. Ambrose game tonight at 5pm is a full-blown exhibition, isn't it?  (As opposed to a scrimmage.)

Looks like Chris and Dan are broadcasting - https://portal.stretchinternet.com/augustana/.

AUGUSTANA 71,
ST. AMBROSE 51
MOLINE — For Carson Frakes, Sunday evening's Genesis Collegiate Challenge brought back memories of recent state runs with the Rockridge boys' basketball team.

Now in his sophomore year at Augustana, the 6-foot-5 reserve forward got to relive the feeling of playing on a big stage when the Vikings renewed their cross-river rivalry with St. Ambrose, the teams meeting for the first time in nearly six years.
"It was cool to be in this, to be in front of the Quad Cities," said Frakes, who tallied a game-high eight rebounds as part of a balanced Viking effort in a 71-51 victory over the Fighting Bees at the TaxSlayer Center. "It was very nice, awesome. It was a great opportunity and a great experience for us."

Ah, felled by the "kissing disease." Not an entirely unpleasant way to end up on the disabled list.

Not to be confused with any related maladies such as Strep Throat, Tonsillitis, or Influenza, Infectious Mononucleosis (Mono) is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), one of the eight known human herpesvirus types. EBV infects the B cells of the immune system, and often manifests itself in symptoms including fatigue, sore throat, fever, headache, swollen tonsils, swollen spleen, and swollen lymph nodes particularly those in the neck and armpits. 👨‍⚕️ 😷

Mono, most often affecting those between the ages of 15-30, is very often passed through the saliva of an infected person. Hence the moniker "kissing disease,"  :-*. Perhaps Mr. Benning is the dashing chief resident lothario of the AC basketball team  ;) ?
At any rate, the patient is likely on a regiment of acetaminophen or ibuprofen and rest, and his symptoms should resolve in 2-4 weeks. Should spleen enlargement be involved the treating physician will likely withhold permission to return to action for a longer period due to the possibility of a rupture of the spleen in contact situations.

Here's hoping Mr. Benning makes a quick recovery and can return to action in the near future. ⛹🏼‍♂️  :)

I'd like to apologize to those posters who I evidently upset by saying that I hope Brett Benning makes a quick recovery, and is able to return to action soon. 🙃

And One-are you a Medical Doctor? Have you examined Mr. Benning?  More importantly, has he given you permission to post (speculative) private medical information regarding his treatment and prognosis?  Have you heard of HIPPAA?  Your "apology" was really a thing of beauty.

Mono is no joke.  One of my friends was down three weeks in college - he lost close to 30 pounds (and was already pretty fit).  Almost had to take the semester off.  We've seen players never get back into shape during the season they got mono.  I do hope it's mild and he gets better soon, but that can be a serious blow to a basketball team.

Augie77,

Please tell me you didn't really consider my post serious in nature, because if so, I'm afraid we have a legitimate case of early onset dementia.  ::)

Following BobbyO's report that Mr. Benning is suffering from mono, I merely gave a description of the disease, which is otherwise known as the "kissing disease" due to the fact that is most often passed through the saliva of an infected person and is transmitted during kissing.

Because of the kissing involved, I jokingly suggested that Mr. Benning might possibly be the resident lothario of the Augie basketball team, the term "lothario" historically being used to describe a gentleman popular with the ladies. 😏

I'm not sure how this constitutes either a medical "examination," or how it qualifies as a valid medical diagnosis/information whose dissemination is governed by the HIPPAA statutes—of which, to answer your question, yes, I am very familiar.  :)

And lastly, yes, of course I'm a Medical Doctor! I am a graduate of the esteemed Augustana Medical School. You know, the one that has long been operating out of the basement of the Roy J. Carver Center for Physical Education in Rock Island.  :P

And now, please excuse me. I have early morning rounds at the hospital. 👨‍⚕️

Mono is also pretty complicated. My wife, it turns out, has an underlying mono diagnosis ... kind of like cancer in the sense that it is in remission, but could come back at any point. She got sidelined pretty badly nearly two years ago ... missed a month of work (during the basketball season)!

It is a constant concern whenever she works too much (volunteering and such) or is run down.

I think most of us were with you . . . and chuckling.

Must be going around.  Heard of another school with a player coming down with mono early in the semester.  Seems to be bouncing back quite well and practicing.

AndOne -- you are in the clear as to HIPAA.  Now, the original poster to name the player involved may end up with his picture in the post office.  I will not tempt fate by doing the same.  ;-)

BTW - I do know mono is one of a few items that scare the hell out of coaches. It can spread, even without kissing, like crazy on a campus and especially a team.
