I haven't heard mono referred to as "the kissing disease" since the 1990s or so.  ::)

You know when we have more than one or two HIPAA-related posts, the posters involved could be diagnosed with cantwaittwelvemoredaysasitis.

Is this season ever going to start?

Be thankful, in this case, that the season starts a week earlier than what has been "normal." :)

NCC will scrimmage at Olivet Nazarene Mon, 10/29 at 7:00, and U of Chicago on Tues 11/6, I believe at 7:00 also.

Any other scrimmages coming up?

Not sure of the details, but I heard North Central won both halves of the scrimmage vs ONU by 10-12 points.

This is so true. Also thankful for all the free live streams in Division III. Lots of exhibitions this week, very few free live streams.

Mono is also pretty complicated. My wife, it turns out, has an underlying mono diagnosis ... kind of like cancer in the sense that it is in remission, but could come back at any point. She got sidelined pretty badly nearly two years ago ... missed a month of work (during the basketball season)!

It is a constant concern whenever she works too much (volunteering and such) or is run down.

Exactly, Dave. And, as you might know, mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) which, in addition to causing mono, contains a protein which may activate any of 7 autoimmune diseases such as lupus which can manifest as severe fatigue, sore throat, headache, fever, muscle aches, or swollen lymph nodes.
While the mono itself usually resolves in 2-4 weeks, the EBV stays in your body in a latent (inactive) status, and can reactivate months, even years later, again causing the symptoms experienced by your wife. My best to her, and hopefully the Virus will decide it no longer likes Mrs. McHugh and will stay away!

*** And just in case there are some skeptics out there who think "this idiot doesn't know what the hell he is talking about," be advised that I am actually pretty well versed in the family of autoimmune diseases. It seems that several years ago my wife was suddenly hit by a rare autoimmune disease called Goodpasture's Disease. Only one in 1,000,000 people have Goodpasture's which causes your antibodies-which normally fight infections in the human body-to act like pac-men and eat your internal organs. In the case of Goodpasture's the organs the antibodies eat are the lungs and the kidneys. I came home from work one night to find my wife gasping for air, and rushed her to the hospital, only 5 minutes away. Doctors informed me she had a 50/50 chance of still being alive at noon the next day. Into ICU she went with 8 different intravenous lines going into her, one of which carried a drug which had only been created a few years previously, and which, after 8 days in ICU, basically repaired the damage done to her lungs. However, both kidneys were totally destroyed. After being released she was on kidney dialysis 3 times a week for four hours each session. After 18 very long months she received a kidney transplant, and has been soaring ever since.

And now, please excuse me. I have early morning rounds at the hospital. 👨‍⚕️
I think most of us were with you . . . and chuckling.

Must be going around.  Heard of another school with a player coming down with mono early in the semester.  Seems to be bouncing back quite well and practicing.

AndOne -- you are in the clear as to HIPAA.  Now, the original poster to name the player involved may end up with his picture in the post office.  I will not tempt fate by doing the same.  ;-)

Thanks Mo.
Yes, periodically a few of us will attempt to inject a bit of humorous frivolity in our posts.
However, the Scrooge Army often frowns on such exhibitions, and unleashes venomous responses to those attempts. 🐍 😏

Post office knows where I live.  They like me! No picture.

Even my baby boomer parents stopped calling it that.

AndOne is no spring chicken. His reference dates himself. He may not be as old as Sager, but his reference here is self incriminating.

Gregory Sager

He isn't? Mark's retired, and I'm 57.

(FWIW, I haven't heard mononucleosis called "the kissing disease" since my younger brother had it in the late '70s. But I wouldn't put much stock in my anecdotal recollection, since it's not as though I spend a lot of time either bantering about Epstein-Barr virus variants with physicians or bantering about who kissed whom with teenage girls.)

AndOne

Nope, not a spring chicken for sure but, you have to remember that I retired at a young age.  :)

And, if you reference mono on just about any search engine, you're going to get an almost immediate mention of "the kissing disease."  :-*

If I could give +1 I'd do it for this right here 😂
