Nope, not a spring chicken for sure but, you have to remember that I retired at a young age.  :)

And, if you reference mono on just about any search engine, you're going to get an almost immediate mention of "the kissing disease."  :-*

Reference bubonic plague on just about any search engine, you're going to get an almost immediate mention of "the Black Death." But nobody calls it that anymore.

Reference gout on just about any search engine, you're going to get an almost immediate mention of "the rich man's disease." But nobody calls it that anymore, either.

Please please shall we return to some sort of basketball commentary?

To that end, I watched the Green/White Scrimmage last weekend, and it was rather ragged and unimpressive.  The first five is pretty much what we predicted -- Curry over Baker, and all the other returnees as expected.  The JV and second tier players seemed to be more ready to go "up and down" than the starters.  The JV guys stuck it to the first team several times in the several simulated quarters as part of this scrimmage.  If the IWU front-line players play like that in the regular season, we'll have a long season.  They, of course, have time to knock off further rust, and get things more pulled together.  Two exhibitions games this weekend -- vs. UIC in Chicago and then UI in the Assembly Hall, just after.  I'm sure we'll likely lose both against DI programs and DI level players, but the key is really starting to put things together, make some shots and begin to have a defensive identity and mentality.  Opening day is not far off -- November 11 at The Shirk vs. U of Chicago.  No time like the present.

Any news on other scrimmages or exhibition games?  I know Augie plays ISU this weekend too, in an exhibition game on Saturday, I think at Noon.  We'll all be at Tucci at Wilder Field for the "all the marbles" football game NCC @ IWU.  Looking forward to that!

Tell you what, Mark ... if you submit a post about any D3 men's basketball team other than your alma mater's, I will cease and desist with my time-filling banter with the other Mark about disease nomenclature. ;)

Perhaps I'll go watch the ISU-Augie exhibition on Saturday and give a report.  But, I think you guys already know that Augie is pretty good.  :)  They've had little trouble with NCC or NPU of late.

??? Augie's only gone 5-3 in its last eight games against NPU, and one of those Augie wins was a highly controversial overtime victory at Carver.

Now we see what happens when you stray off the reservation and post about something unconnected to your alma mater. ;)

Mark, your chance to redeem yourself is if you can find an opera singer to laud from some other CCIW school! ;D

Perhaps Eastman or the Academy of Vocal Arts would have interest in joining the CCIW as affiliate members so we have enough schools to merit a Pool 'A' berth in the opera tourney.  ::)
