I’ll be in Dubuque Wednesday night to watch Augustana take on Loras. I’m interested to see if Augie decides to throw the kitchen sink at Josh Ruggles, or if they assign Orange to him all night. Should be a very fun and competitive game! Story could very well end up being if Jordan Boyd of Loras is ready to go toe to toe with the top of the line when it comes to the CCIW’s big men.

This is a very intriguing game.  I think Loras is really good.

On Selection Sunday I believe this result will be significant for both teams, and maybe both leagues.

Pleasant Valley(IA) 5'10" PG, Carter Duwa, has committed to Auguatana.  Should bring some great shooting to Rock Island.  He was getting some D2 interest from Southwest Minnesota St.  His dad is an assistant coach for Augustana which I'm sure aided in the recruitment.

After a big win, let's hope there's no let down tonight as the Thunder host Calvin which is almost always a tough game.  I doubt the Knights will want to start out 0-3 with the CCIW.

Aston Francis will always be the focus but Wheaton has been getting very solid performance from the whole team.  They've gotten 3 great games from Luke Peters averaging 9.7/game, 6.7 reb, 6 asst, 3:1 a/to.  Additionally his defensive effort in shutting down UWO's Boots had just as much to do with Wheaton's win as anything else.  Kobe Eichelberger leads the team in rebounding 8/g.  Anajuwon Spencer and Trevor Gunter have been very solid in their roles.  Plus, the additional minutes for Cade Alioth, Nyameye Adom and Gavin Hawkins has solidified the rotation especially on the boards and defense.

Still early but a promising start.  Would like to keep the momentum going tonight with the league opener at NPU just 11 days away.

* Brady Rose: 33 pts, 4 assists
* Colin Bonnett: 12 pts, 5 assists
* Doug Wallen: 10 pts, 3 reb, 5 assists
* Jason Gregoire: 8 pts, 5 reb, 4 assists

* Justin Hardy: 28 pts, 8 reb
* Jack Nolan: 17 pts, 6 assists

FG: IWU 60%

IWU led by 17 at halftime and by 18 with 3:18 to play in the game.

Brady Rose has now scored 30+ points in three consecutive games.  I'm trying to think of the last IWU player to have done that and I don't know the answer.  In my 30 yrs following the program I don't think I've seen it.  I don't think either Korey Coon or Bryan Crabtree did it...but not 100%.  Rose is a pretty amazing player.

IWU got 30 points off the bench.

I thought the key stretch of the game was when IWU starting posts Alex O'Neill and Charlie Bair left with 2 fouls each very early in the game and sophomore F Doug Wallen entered and score 10 points.

The Titans are 4-0 and play in the Webster tournament this weekend.

I think Wash U will finish 2nd in the UAA behind Emory.  They have a lot of talent.

Blackburn 81
Elmhurst 77

Rhode 21 pts, 9 assists, 4 reb
Thomas 18 pts, 7 reb

Karsen Hayes 23 points
Duncan King 18 points

Elmhurst needs to do much better handling the ball if they are to be competitive and win games in the CCIW this year. 18 turnovers killed the Jays tonight, many of which occurred in a fateful stretch midway through the second half.  To be fair, Blackburn seemed to always be able to hit the 3 tonight.  Blackburn also shot very well from the foul line (18-20) and were perfect down the stretch when Elmhurst was fouling.

The happiest man in the state of Illinois tonight is Blackburn head coach and Elmhurst alumnus Steve Kollar.

Aston Francis  30 pts, 9/24, 4/13 3FG, 8/9 FT
Anajuwon Spencer 11 pts, 8 rebs, 3 blks

Derrick Devries 24 pts, 7 rebs
Thad Shymanski 15 pts, 5 rebs

Seemed like a little bit of letdown from the team after Saturday's big win.  The play was really not very sharp in the 1st H and the Knight's Devries was having his way.  The Thunder bench provided a huge lift playing big minutes (74) and combining for 32 pts and 13 rebs.  Jack Bennett (6 pts), Nyameye Adom(9), Tyson Cruickshank(5), Spencer Peterson(6), Gavin Hawkins(6) all played well as Wheaton continues to have trouble fouling opponents with frequency.

4-0 and now the Thunder go on the road to play an unusual non con road game vs the Yellow Jackets of LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.  The fact that LETU is less than an hour drive from the hometowns of Trevor Gunter (Flint) and Aston Francis(Tyler) might have something to do with it.

What, no final score? They'd flunk you out of J-school for that, GP. ;)

My money's on Rochester to finish second. I think that Wash U is a year away.
