I could have predicted an Augusta win, but not by a 26 point margin.  If Coach G could dial up these shooting percentages on a regular basis he'd have several national championships under his belt.

Thank you and absolutely 100% true.

That is high quality sports writing right there.  Time to write that book on Division III basketball...

Yeah. Felt as if I was listening to a radio broadcast.  Although a tough loss, nicely done Sager!

Thanks, guys. It felt a bit as though I was piling on Elmhurst after a hard-to-swallow defeat, but that last 43 seconds was just so epically painful to watch and funny at the same time (for both teams) that I felt it had to be chronicled.

Quote from: voxelmhurst on December 17, 2018, 11:16:33 PMHard to tell with the low-budget camera setup but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else thought Dotlich was fouled. Elmhurt's coaches and players and normally very soft spoken but they were all livid after the final whistle. I'm not one to blame one call for an entire loss but i just wish there could have at least been a different camera angle so the fans could judge for themselves whether the no-call was correct.

It didn't look like a foul to me. You're right that the camera was too far away and at the wrong angle to give a definitive look, but it looked to me that Dotlich had some separation in the middle of the lane when he released his shot. I wouldn't make the proverbial all-the-corn-in-Manito bet about it, though.

If there was contact, then I'd be pulling out my automated "refs should call the game the same way for all 40 minutes" response. Of course, the truth is that not every ref sees it that way; or, even if he does, he may unconsciously be a little more chary about blowing his whistle to make a call that could reverse the outcome of a game at the buzzer. But, again, I don't think that that applies here.

I wouldn't call John Baines "normally very soft-spoken." He's a pretty mild-mannered guy off the court, but I've seen him blow his stack on multiple occasions over the years. Lest we forget, Baines was the most recent CCIW coach to get tossed out of a gym by the gentlemen in stripes. He's also one of the triumvirate of CCIW coaches who've locked horns with Bosko at the scorer's table during or after a CCIW game. I've seen John get much more worked up than he was at the end of last night's contest.

By the way, you're right about the Man U setup. There's no reason why the camera's microphone couldn't have been turned on. Crowd noise and sneaker squeak is better than watching in silence, and with the camera mic on we'd at least be able to hear the P.A. And Spartans games were carried on local radio as recently as two seasons ago (which was the last time that I took notice of what's going on over at Manchester), with a link of the radio call to the webcast on the Man U website. Dunno why that's not happening anymore. Keep in mind, though, that in terms of athletics bells and whistles the HCAC as a whole is not up to par with the CCIW. Believe it or not, we're at the high end of D3 athletics resources here in our league.

Quote from: WUPHF on December 17, 2018, 10:48:28 PMBlown call or not Elmhurst lost this one from the foul line and by shooting poorly. I also don't know why Ireland received relatively limited touches of the ball when he had 25 points on Saturday. I feel like Elmhurst would do better by slowing down and letting Ireland draw a double team leaving Dotlich/Rhode/Patton open for 3s.

Excellent point, and a fair assessment that every Bluejays fan ought to be asking.

I just meant anyone who knows anything about Augie could have made the same prediction. I was saying I can't take much credit. That result was easy to see coming.

I know some things about Augustana.

There is no way I could have predicted a 26 point win.

Ditto.

... and he'd have the most pristine collection of sport coats of all D3 head coaches. ;)

Manchester lost its SID earlier this fall. Not sure if they have a permanent replacement or how much time was lost in the interim.

Yes 'soft spoken' was not the correct choice of words in the hasty post I made after the game. I guess sometimes we mythologize certain coaches to the point where other coaches can seem tame by comparison, even though that may not always be accurate.

To be fair to the Manchester SID --- he's been on the job for just over 2 weeks.

And it might be useful for me to continue reading ALL the comments before commenting.   Looks like Pat beat me to it!

Greek Tragedy

Not only did Man U lose their SID, they fired their manager today. They just lost to their bitter rivals over the weekend and are 19 points adrift of 1st place. To top things off they...oh wait, wrong Man U.

Tom, it cracks me up that you're so into the English Premier League that you use British turns of phrase such as "adrift of first place" when you talk about it.

In Memphis, Augustana leads host Rhodes College 37-14 at the half.  The Viking defense is giving the Lynx few clean looks.

Final score was 86-42. Lots of playing time for all.

The last three games for Augie shows that the can play 40 minutes without letting up on the gas petal. Now if only they can do it the rest of the season. However. I have to keep in mind who they played the last three. I am for sure the CCIW will not be a cake walk.

iwu70

Some easy games for Augie.  Meantime, IWU plays Point and Whitman out west.  No nights off.  Titans sure need a win, need to bounce back from the three game losing stretch.

Safe travels, happy holidays to all teams out on the road, on the flight paths this holiday break.

Carroll dropped Lakeland, 74-59, up in the Sheboygan metropolitan area. Charlie Soule led the way with 15 and 9, Tarren Hall chipped in 14, Ryan Clarey had 11, and Tyler Ingebrigtsen finished with 10 and 8.
