The James Harden-esque tear that Aston Francis is on hearkens back to the days of Stevie D., although Francis is definitely more audacious in his scoring forays. Stevie D. always struck me as more methodical in his dissection in comparison to Francis' more unpredictable live wire.
It all has me re-evaluating where Francis ranks in terms of Wheaton's all-time greats. I didn't think I'd ever see a player better than Kent Raymond in the orange, and I still may not. But Francis is dam close, and if he had a full 4 years with the Thunder, could well have achieved it. Wheaton has had an enviable amount of great individuals come through in recent times (Raymond, Francis, McCrary, Peters, Panner, etc.) that any CCIW would be jealous of.
Where do we all think Francis fits in the Thunder's historical context? And in the CCIW's pantheon as well?

Why are we talking about "the CCIW's pantheon" regarding a guy who isn't even good enough to be the league's MOP this season? ;)

(Sorry, Bob, but I couldn't resist.)

Ahh but you did go "there" today 😂

Well, I've already embarrassed John Baines this morning, so ... in for a penny, in for a pound.

And the full video of Baines' rage starts at about the 2:08:45 mark to allow for the play to be in there.

I can kind of see Baines' argument, but honestly I think they made the right call. Looked to me at least that Wofford had position.

Now all I want on Wednesday is some similar level of jacket activity.

I'm thinking of wearing one on Saturday and then throwing it down from my broadcasting perch at some point. Why should the coaches have all of the fun?

I like it! I just wish I could do the same, but I'd prefer not to get T'd up since I sit at the table. :P

As far as who should be embarrassed, the first subject should be the short guy who is wearing a stocking cap and doing the funky chicken. And, even more so whatever the heck that is to his right in the short shorts and sporting the very fashionable Britney Spears bare midriff look. 😖 🤮

After viewing the footage from the baseline, I don't think there was a strong case to made for a blocking call, and I'm speaking as a totally biased Elmhurst fan.

Seems like most of Baines' technicals occur in the final minutes. I wonder if perhaps he'd get better mileage from his technicals if he used them earlier in the contest. Seems to work well for Grey! (mild sarcasm).

Will Baines' get a call from the CCIW over this? I mean, throwing a jacket in the general direction of an official is particularly egregious.

Yes, that's where I sit.

That $10 will be a nice solace after I become the first broadcaster in college basketball history to get tossed from his own gym for throwing something on the floor.

As much as I would have loved for EC to drive home with a W last night, I have to say it looked like Wofford had indeed established position, and took the charge. JMHO

Interesting question. We have a lame-duck commish who is thus no longer forced to maintain the sort of politesse that will keep him on good terms with all nine sets of presidents, ADs, and coaches. So does Chris Martin just say "damn the torpedoes" in this instance and put John Baines in the penalty box? Realistically, I'd say "no," given that, while it's not commonplace for CCIW men's basketball coaches to get tossed, it does happen from time to time. (It's a lot more common in CCIW baseball, whose coaches make their men's basketball peers look like a glee club.) If the officials complain to the league office that the sportscoat was thrown at them, however, it could be another matter entirely.

Me, I'm just fascinated by the fact that, even though Grey Giovanine has developed a national reputation in D3 men's basketball circles for behaving like a madman on the sidelines, it's John Baines who has now been the recipient of the last two heave-hos given out by CCIW refs.

I may be wrong, but here is my take...

Wofford clearly exaggerates the hit.

He begins falling backwards and towards the sideline even before the contact with the leg.

I am not convinced that there was upper-body contact.  That would be noticeable given he momentum of the Elmhurst player.

I am a little less sure about the contact with the leg.  There may be some, but Wofford got the call because he sold the upper-body contact.

I am sure I am not alone in this.

Also, a bit of irony that for the first time ever, a coach gets in trouble for throwing his coat at Carver and it is not Coach Grey.

Gregory Sager

A bit of irony?

This is like someone beating James Brown in a dance contest at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
