All men's and women's games in the CCIW scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed because of the bitter cold that will sweep through the Midwest.

I know the link says it, but to that effect, every game except Augie-NCC is already confirmed for Thursday at 7pm. They're still working out logistics for that one.

Personally, I'm pretty happy about not having to travel over to campus to call NPU's women's game on Wednesday. Frostbite is not on my to-do list.

Three of the games -- MU @ IWU, CC @ EC, and WC @ CU -- have been postponed 24 hours, and will be played on Thursday at 7 pm. The rescheduled date of the fourth game, AC @ NCC, remains TBD at the moment.

What's the reason why Gregory Arena is unavailable on Thursday, Lucas? I noticed that your men's volleyball team isn't playing a home match that night. (Our men's volleyball team is in the crackerbox on Thursday, which is why our postponed women's basketball game remains TBD.)

(BTW, the temperature on Thursday may be warmer than Wednesday's, but Thursday's high isn't expected to clear the zero mark, either.)

Sensible decision. I'm about to head out and run errands before barricading myself inside for the next 72 hours. Stay warm everyone!

Certainly a wise decision to avoid Wednesday. We all saw this coming so I wish there could've been enough foresight to be proactive about the schedule and move the Wednesday games up to Tuesday when the temperatures at least are supposed to be above zero. Oh well.

From what I understand, the issue isn't Merner availability, but which day Augie can get transportation to Naperville. I think the hope is Thursday night, but it's not official yet.

Well if there is one that can maybe cool-down Francis ... it might be Mother Nature or Old Man Winter. ;)

Once upon a time I heard someone say.......It takes a village:D

ALTHOUGH—-In Wheaton's last game Anajuwon Spencer was their high scorer. Francis had "only" 19.  ::)

Just rec'd word that Augie @ North Central has now also been rescheduled for Thurs night, 1/31.

Mr. Ypsi

The prediction for Michigan on Wednesday is also record cold - for Ypsi, HIGH actual -4, but high wind-chill -29.  OUCH!

Most schools closed today because of the snow forecast, including EMU (I'd call it borderline good call; it has stopped now and only about 6 inches of snow, but MANY accidents).  I wonder if they will close on Wednesday for the cold (no snow in the forecast).  This would be the coldest day since 1994 (any date), when EMU didn't close and caught holy hell since literally hundreds of cars wouldn't start, including administrators and faculty.

Anyone recall CCIW basketball games getting called off before for temperature alone?  (If MIAA games are being postponed, I haven't heard it.)

This is a first since I've been around. Snow postponements? Sure, they're nothing new. Postponement due to frigid weather? Nope.

Greg.were you living in Burgh Hall in '84 during a cold snap that was actually worse than what is forecast for tomorrow?  I had a resident come down to the RD apartment to tell me his room was cold.  I asked him if that might be expected with a -80 wind chill factor. He said he wan't sure.  I don't remember his name, but he might not either any more.

Yeah, I was living in Burgh at that time. I had two classes that I skipped that day because I didn't want to walk across campus. I stepped out the door right before my 8 am class, stood there for a moment marveling at what could only be described as a first-man-on-Pluto moment, thought to myself, "OK, I never want to feel this sensation again," and went back inside. That's how cold it was. Both of my profs whose classes I missed told me later that their classes didn't number more than four or five students that day, none of them commuters.

We had to psych ourselves up just to run the ten yards across the walkway to the dining hall at mealtimes.

My brother was living in Sohlberg, and he said that the rooms at the end of the second- and third-floor hallways at the north end of the building had ice coating the insides of the north walls. One of his classmates told me that when the Sohlberg freshmen guys walked to the dining hall, a couple dozen of them assembled in the dorm lobby first and then walked across campus in unison in a tight pack to collectively conserve body warmth.

I have no idea why NPC didn't cancel classes that day. From what I heard on the news, it was so cold that skin exposure could lead to hypothermia and/or frostbite within minutes.
