NCC overcomes a 5 pt halftime deficit to beat Augie 68-63. After going 1-9 from downtown in the first half, go 6-10 in the second half including a huge 3 while leading 60-59 with just over 1 minute left in the game.  The play came right after Ebel missed the front end of a 1 and 1 which would have at least tied if not given Augie the lead back. Ebel needs to go to the Jake Rhode school of shooting to learn how to get a foul called, because twice he got hit while shooting a 3 with no whistle. Overall great game, and tightens up the race to host the tournament.  Would have been nice to be + 3 with 4 games remaining.

Most annoying announcer awards goes to Carrol.
Worst name pronunciation Gold Medal!!!!!!!!!
Worst the other team is getting away with everything award Gold Medal!
Just go with no announcer these guys are annoying!
Referees both sides no calls to technical calls.
These refs do not belong refereeing any game in organized basketball.
It would be horrible if these refs called any of the tournament games .

I in no way dispute that Carrol deserved to win the game but don't take the enjoyment out of the game from the refs and the horrid announcers.
Congratulations to Carrol find better announcers.  What athlete would want to play on your team if they heard these announcers who leave a bad taste in your mouth while taking the enjoyment of a game away??????

IWU gets a win they need to get closer to the CCIW tournament, in RI.

Winning over MU 84-72

For IWU:
Rose 27
Bonnett 13
Gregoire 11
Bair 11 and 8

Difference in the game surely Charelie Bair, giving the TITANS some strong paint presence, rebounding and better scoring than of late.

For MU:
Z. Fisher 16
C. Fisher 11
Henry 10
Cunningham 14 RBs.

A much needed win at home.

... and we can stow the undefeated-in-conference claptrap for another year.

Also, for those of you who had wagers in on this, Grey's jacket came off quick, with 14:20 left in the game after the Cardinals got like 4 straight offensive rebounds.

What a freaking game.

Great game by NC.  Augie looked flat.  #1 Team bad luck strikes again.  Now it's a run to see who will host.  Wheaton 4 losses, NC  2 losses and Augie now with 1.  Anyone know the tiebreaker rules.  Hope this isn't like the last two years.  Bad finish in CCIW last two years.

Augie didn't lose because of the refs. Ebel had a terrible night (nine points on 1-6 shooting and a 2:5 a:to), although he did hit a big trey -- the only one by an Augie player other than Lucas Simon the entire evening -- with 1:43 to go to bring Augie to within a point. Ebel not only missed that front end of a one-and-one with 1:10 to go, he also got too cute with the ball when Augie was in a must-score position down five, tiptoeing along the sideline in front of the scorer's table and then likewise tracing the outer paint up the baseline -- and got whistled for touching it, a very costly turnover with 31 seconds left.

But Augie didn't lose because of Ebel, either. Augie lost because North Central made more plays down the stretch than the Doggies did. Tommy Koth hit a big trey with about two minutes left that gave NCC a two-possession lead, and Matt Cappelletti's trey with :48 left that re-established that four-point lead had "dagger" written all over it. Aaron Jones, a 67% FT shooter who had only been to the line 15 times this season, made four huge foul shots in the game's final sixteen seconds. And before Ebel's trey, Augie had six straight empty possessions that reflected great crunch-time defensive basketball on North Central's part.

Augie duplicated the weather situation: Cold outside. Augie only went 4-17 from downtown. But the Rock Islanders were drawn even on the boards by NCC, too, and couldn't take much advantage of their bigs inside because the Cards did such a good job of swarming Martin and Ferguson and knocking the ball out of their hands.

Augie didn't play well at all tonight. But this game was every bit as much about NCC winning it as it was about Augie losing it.

I guess that the seven-man rotation hasn't gone the way of the dinosaur after all. ;)

I didn't try to say they lost because of the refs, but Ebel doesn't shoot many free throws. I don't know if he's too off balanced when he drives to the lane to get a call, but for someone that will be 1st team CCIW it's surprising he doesn't get more free throw attempts.  4 free throws on the 2 3pt attempts could have gone a long way in a close game.  NCC deserved to win and hit shots both from the line and from downtown when needed.

Hey, gotta step up when the #1 team comes into your house.  ;)

But you're right, that I still have even a semblance of a voice left is nothing short of a miracle. Might need my mom's old concoction of hot water, honey, and lemon juice that she always drank when she sang.

I don't see any reason at all for Augie fans to panic. The Greymen are very much in the driver's seat in spite of tonight. Their four games remaining are:

home vs. NPU
home vs. Wheaton
home vs. Millikin
@ Carthage

NPU will be a walkover, Millikin doesn't have what it takes to beat Augie, and Carthage already shot its bolt against Augie and will not pose an upset threat the second time around. The only game that I think Augie fans need to worry about is Wheaton. Meanwhile, North Central has:

home vs. IWU
home vs. Wheaton
@ Carthage
@ Elmhurst

That's a significantly tougher sked than Augie's. I see three possible losses there, although I doubt that NCC will finish up by going 1-3. And this is all backdrop to the fact that the Cardinals are still chasing Augie by a game in the standings.

The odds are really long that the tourney will be held in the airplane hangar rather than in Carver.

The Wheaton rematches are key. If the Thunder lose to North Central but beat Augie, and the Cardinals run the table, we're playing in Naperville due to the tiebreaker. Really, I could say that about any of Augie's remaining games, but the Wheaton one just really jumps out at me.

Even so, Augie's schedule on the whole seems friendlier than NCC's.

Augustana does need to take care of business.  Should the Vikings and Cardinals each end up 14-2 the tiebreaker tends to favor North Central--especially if Augie loses to someone other than North Park or Carthage.  Losing to Wheaton or Millikin would be more costly than North Central's loss to North Park.

The Quad Cities Airport (Rock Island) broke its all time record low temperature by six degrees.  It was -33 this morning!  Kudos to North Central, but the Vikings seemed to be stuck in the deep freeze.

OUCH!!  In Ypsilanti we 'only' had the sixth lowest temperature ever (-18), but shattered the 'by date' low record by 7 degrees).

I'm amazed that no one fouled out of the Millikin @ IWU game - seven players finished with four fouls, and five more had three.  It appears that the refs thought they were paid by the foul call.  It really slowed down the game!
