It may feel more recent because it has been invoked a few times since.

Its interesting to think back though, I think I had to follow the bracket of death with a live stats that did not function nearly as well as they do today.

No live stream and no way to pick up the radio broadcast from St. Louis.

At least, I think that is right.

I do not remember watching those games and I certainly would have.

Gregory Sager

The interesting thing is that hopefan came up from St. Louis to watch those games. That's where I first met him.

He was a big WUSTL fan back...

I had every intention of driving up for that game, but we had a disaster at work and I had to change my plans.  The University chartered a bus for Salem, but I could not go to those games either.  Lots of regrets from those years.

That's a shame. The three Final Fours in which I saw North Park play -- one as a student, two as a recent alumnus -- were three of the best weekends of my life. (And I sure wish that I could've been in Greensboro fourteen months ago to see the NPU soccer team in its Final Four.) There really is nothing like seeing your school win a national championship in person. It's one of those take-it-all-in-and-memorize-it kinds of experiences ... unless you're a Messiah soccer fan or a Mount Union football fan, in which case it probably loses some of its magic after awhile.

And, the thing is, since that time, I have committed to driving wherever to watch them play in the postseason and you know how the rest of the story goes.

I thought I would get a second weekend after the first weekend in Holland and nope...  Had the committee sent them to the Augustana or the WIAC, I would have been there.

I did get to watch my Division II alma mater play in the Elite Eight and Final Four which included a record breaking three over time win.  It was great.

Oh, and I also missed the Women's basketball team when they won the championship in the Shirk Center.  That team was one of the best Women's basketball teams I had ever seen in real life, though I missed the teams that made Coach Fahey famous.

One of the better PG's in the state of Illinois, Geneva's Jack McDonald, will play basketball at Augustana.  Big get for Coach Giovanine.

Big catch by Coach G.  I hope he will be able to take Ebel's spot.  Not impressed with Jellen.

Mr. Ypsi

New poll is up.  Augie falls from 1 to 4; NCC rises from 22 to 13; Wheaton got 2 points.

Here's the full poll.

Augie falling as much as they did makes some sense, considering the three teams ahead of them all have just one loss. I expected the Cardinals to jump, but maybe not as much as they did. There is a pretty big gap though between them and #12 Pomona-Pitzer, though.

You Augie fans have been very spoiled by seven years of Hunter Hill and Nolan Ebel at the point.

I have to agree about the best weekends of your life.  In 1972, 73 and 74 I was in Kansas City NAIA.  School was closed due to all of us going there and not to classes.  1973 was the year that we went 16-0 in CCIW and 29-2 for the year.  Loss at Quincy to I believe Sam Houston State and then Guildford at Kansas City.  World B Free played for Guildford.  in 1975 drove through an ice storm to Reading PA for 1st Division 3 Championship and in 2017 made it to Salem.  Some of my best memories.  Hoping 2019 will be another.

One other note, less than 500 people (484) in attendance last night.   This game used to bring sell out crowds.

If there were more than 400 people in the gym, I would be surprised.  I counted at one point and got to about 260.

Yeah, that KC tourney was the biggest reason IWU was the last CCIW team to drop their dual affiliation with the NAIA (that, and respect for long-time head coach and AD Jack Horenberger, who was a 'founding father' of the NAIA).  It was also at least a minor factor in the successful recruitment of Jack Sikma, as his sister (an IWU nursing student) had had a blast at the tourney, and there were always plenty of NBA scouts there.

In huge Division III recruiting news, Illinois Wesleyan lands Bloomington Central Catholic PG Luke Yoder, who is among the Hoops Report's top 50 prospects in the Class of 2019. Yoder stays home, picks IWU over Division II and Division I offers and interest.

Ron Rose and the Titans have landed Luke Yoder, a 6-0 PG from Bloomington Central Catholic.  Yoder has an offer from D1 Eastern Illinois and well as several D2s, including Quincy, Truman State, McKendree, and U. of Mary.  D1 Bradley recently hosted him for a visit.  Sounds like he should be a very good player for the Titans.

Welcome Luke Yoder.  Looks like a good ball-handler.

Fond memories of the trips to KC to cheer on the TITANS in the late 60s -- the Tommy Gramkow, Sheldon Thompson and Fred Evans teams.  Great times, many fans to a hotel room, bringing back the Coors.  LOL
