St Charles North Wing, Lucas Hellen, has committed to play basketball at Illinois Wesleyan.  IWU is putting together a fantastic recruiting class thus far.

Who else is part of it?

Two numbers that haven't been mentioned after the Carthage / NPU game last night.

999 - Points in Kienan Baltimore's career.  1 more to enter the 1000 point club.

57 - Number of Wins both teams have against each other.  Carthage sweep of North Park evens the overall record against the Vikings at 57 wins and 57 losses.

That irritates me to no end, because in North Park's golden age the Vikings beat Carthage 33 straight times. That's tied for the league's H2H record with the 33 straight victories that North Park had over Elmhurst, two streaks that overlapped each other for fifteen years between the late '70s and the early '90s. It used to be a given that North Park fans could circie four games per year on the schedule as automatic wins.

Things change in life, and not necessarily for the better.

Luke Yoder, who was getting many D1 and D2 looks.

Also, St Charles East 6'6" Forward, Cody Mitchell, has just committed to IWU.

Yes, Verhulst too...didn't mention him in my previous post.

The 2018-19 season has entered it's final weeks. For some teams, their final games are this week. For others, they are fighting to hopefully still be playing next week and maybe beyond. While others hope their season stretches into March, as long as they take care of business this week and next.

The season can really all boil down to a couple of games. While November is just as important, February games seem to have a different feel to them. Regional Rankings coming out gives everyone a new sense of where they stand if they have postseason plans. Conference tournaments getting ready to start also gives gives teams more incentive to lock up seedings or berths.

As a result: A lot of craziness and games to watch on any given night.

On Sunday's Hoopsville, Dave and guests try and take the temperature of these final few weeks. Who has turned heads, who seems to be stumbling down the stretch, and who should we be talking about while we've been distracted by the usual suspects.

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. Sunday's show starts at 7:00 p.m. ET right here: http://bit.ly/2GkK7C6 (or video Facebook Live and Periscope simulcasts).

It's sort of intriguing that both Mike Schauer and Todd Raridon are members of the advisory committee for the central region with Schauer as chair and member of the National Committee (mentioned before).  So I presume both hang up the conference call while Wheaton and NCC are being ranked or discussed?  Or does that rule not apply in the regional ranking process?  I'm sure it works fine but still a little uncomfortable.

So there IS a route for three CCIW teams in the tourney. ;)  The winner of IWU/Elmhurst (IWU is my preference ;D) upsets Augie in the semis (Augie would still be safely in, though some unknown bubble team would be sorely disappointed), then beats Wheaton in the finals (reaching the finals should pretty-well lock in Wheaton for a Pool C, unless there is an unprecedented number of 'bubble-busters').  "Piece of cake", except for knocking off Augie on their home court, then knocking off "Team Francis".  Otherwise, "easy as pie".

Now Ypsi, surely you are "grasping at straws," as Greg would say.  Lots of scenarios yet to play out.  I'll be so delighted if IWU gets hot, wins the AQ, and WC and Augie get in . . . leaving NCC to weep.  Realistically, I think AC wins the AQ and WC or NCC get a bid, at this point probably Wheaton.

An exciting few days to end the D3 basketball season.

Let's turn to the women!  :)   Can we somehow avoid Trine this year?

Hey, Mark! I've just had the most fantastic idea! Let's start a board for CCIW women's basketball! It'll be great. All CCIW women's basketball, all the time. Everybody can comment and argue and speculate and review to their heart's content regarding CCIW women's basketball, and -- get this -- the only sport that we'll talk about there will be women's basketball! Just think ... a board devoted solely to that particular sport. Not only would it be fair to CCIW women's basketball players and coaches for their sport to get its own board, it's also a great idea to give those people who don't really have an interest in men's basketball a forum of their own.

Doesn't that sound like a great idea? How come nobody's ever thought of starting a board like that before?

Well when it comes to the RAC, Mike Schaurer will basically just run the RAC and make sure things are being done properly and such. He wouldn't participate in discussions and votes other than to make sure the criteria is being used accordingly even if his team wasn't a factor. RAC Chairs do not vote in any region. They only vote at the national level (which is why a RAC chair's conference will have another representative, as you see here, on the RAC).

When it comes to discussion of a coach's team, yes, they remove themselves from the call. That can be done by hanging up (and getting a call back when the team is no longer being discussed) or I've heard of times when they simply mute themselves.

A coach is not allowed to discuss or be part of the discussion when his team is involved - even if three or four teams are being discussed and his is one of them. It is SOP for the RACs and the national committee.

So for Schaurer, he would not take part in national conversations when it pertains to his team. Then on Selection Sunday, he will remove himself from the call when Wheaton comes to the table and someone else from the RAC will take his place (there is no set designation; it is up to the chair or the RAC to make that decision on a case-by-case basis).

As an aside, some sports I've heard the back-up RAC member for the national call is on mute the entire time until needed. In other sports like at least one of the basketball committees, they are called when needed. There are pros and cons to both methods from what I've been told in multiple sports.
