The software package shows the distance between Augustana and Wooster as 500 miles, which by definition requires a flight.  Mileages are rounded to whole numbers.  Might there be a more nuanced version of this program that would give a more precise mileage.  The true mileage might be 500.4 (flight), but it could just as easily be 499.6 (bus).

The official mileage software goes to tenths of a mile - https://web1.ncaa.org/TES/exec/miles

This still shows whole numbers....

It showed tenths on Sunday when we were doing mock bracketing.  There's a tenths place there.  I'm not sure what's going on.

I remember last year we had one that was 499.9 one way and 500.0 the other - and we needed them to go the 500 direction because of seeding. Very frustrating.

Thinking of a potential Sectional that is...
- Nebraska Wesleyan
- Wittenberg
- UW-Oshkosh
- North Central

The location that requires no flights is Naperville, IL. Official mileage:
- Nebraska Wesleyan to North Central = 496.0
- Wittenberg to North Central = 336.0
- UW-Oshkosh to North Central = 187.0

In this Sectional scenario, neither Wittenberg (770.0) or Oshkosh (575.0) can get to Lincoln, NE without a flight.

UW-Oshkosh as the Sectional host would require one flight.  Wittenberg (486.0) and North Central (186.0) can bus there...Nebraska Wesleyan (575.0) can't. With Oshkosh a higher overall seed. than NCC, the Titans could be the choice to host...if the NCAA is willing to pay for one flight.  But in this scenario, I think NCC would have like a 75% chance of hosting the Sectional.  Seems like zero flights would win out over one flight.

Thinking of a potential Sectional that is:
- Nebraska Wesleyan
- Guilford (Guilford hosts Wittenberg tonight)
- UW-Oshkosh
- North Central

There is no zero flight option.  NCC is the only location that requires just one flight.  Nebraska Wesleyan and UW-Oshkosh would require two flights, and obviously Guilford has no chance (three flights).  So in this scenario, I think NCC would be almost a lock to host.

If NCC wins tonight, the Cards have a really good chance to host the Sectional.

* Not only is Naperville the only location either requiring no flights or just one, depending on the above scenarios, but Oshkosh is NOT a higher seed than NCC. In the Final Regional Rankings NCC jumped up from 4th to 2nd while Oshkosh fell from 2nd to 3rd.

Wheaton has a very big challenge in Ohio tonight for their second round matchup.  A quick and dirty analysis of Wooster reveals a very efficient offensive team averaging 82.7 pts/game which would lead the CCIW.  So key for Wheaton will playing be some solid clamp down defense.  The Scots get lots of contribution up and down the roster and look to go about 9 deep on minutes.  Their two key players look to be their guards 6-5 Danyon Hempy ( 20.3 ppg and 5.3 rbg) and 6-2 Reece Dupler (17.3, 3.8), both of whom are shooting over 50% from the field although neither take many from beyond the arc.  No doubt Luke Peters will draw either of these two.

Wheaton got very good contributions from everyone on the floor.  There's no doubt the Fighting Scots are a night/day tougher test than Hanover as should be expected with each win-and-advance.  Playing on Wooster's home floor provides an even greater mountain to climb.  But the Thunder are certainly capable of pulling this off.  We'll see if Francis can back up yesterday's phenomenal performance with yet another.

Should be a really good and tight game down to the end.

You're right...I completely forgot about the flip. Since both NCC and Oshkosh are in the same region, and we know the final regional rankings, we know for sure NCC is the higher overall seed in the tournament.

So, yes...NCC has an outstanding chance to host the Sectional with a win tonight.

Right.  I forgot about that as well.  We had NCC in the NWU quadrant in our mock for this exact reason.

As many have prognosticated, this evening's Loras @ North Central game has the potential to be a very hard fought and closely contested battle.

In last night's game vs. Albion, the (whats a  :D) DuHawks took fully one half (27/54) of their shot attempts from beyond the arc. Between them, starters Ruggles and DiCanio, and sub McGowan took 20 of the 27, and were successful on 8 or 40% of them.

Accordingly, I sense one of the defensive keys for the Cardinals this evening will be for whatever Cards are assigned to guard this trio to never leave them. On screens they can employ show and recover, but they cannot allow open weak side looks where the Loras shooters can freely receive a skip pass or a quick pass off ball reversal, and thus have one of those wide open opportunities from downtown.

Man, I don't think I've ever seen a player do more lawyering on the court than Luke Peters.

Francis can't buy a trey, and yet Wheaton is still winning. Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance fans have to love that development. Francis is still finding other ways to score.

38-33 Wheaton at the half.

Great defensive scheme by Wooster starting out with the 6-8 Eric Bulic on Francis initially.  Took Aston out of his normal rhythm and had trouble the rest of the half. 5-14 and 1-6 but 5 rebs.  The Scots also don't know how to guard Eichelberger so he could be key also.  Both Peters and Spencer with 2 fouls.

Both Hempy and Reece are both outstanding players.  Hempy and Bulic both with 2 fouls.

Second half questions:  1. Can Aston find his shooting range? 2.  Who will step up to make the big plays for Wheaton down the stretch?  3. Will Nyameye Adom get his name pronounced even close to correctly by either announcer?

Yes you have . . . brother Tyler. :D

It's difficult to follow this game online - for most of the first half, Wheaton was listed as Wooster and Wooster as Wheaton on the live stats page. When I tuned in, "Wheaton" was down 4, but once I found the video link, I realized they were winning. The score update on the video isn't much better - they are lagging on adding points, and the announcers are regularly announcing the incorrect score as a result. All of this is adding extra drama to the game - Wheaton is up 7 right now, but for all I know it's really a 2 point game and one of the teams is actually Augustana.

Reece Dupler. His touch around the basket is as good as anybody's in D3.

Tyler was more animated, but Luke is more constant. If you wear black and white stripes, he's like Chinese water torture. ;)

Augie trails 41-35 at the half.  I'd have to see a replay, but I don't think the Capital 3 beat the buzzer.
