Thank you Mr. Sager for helping me out with the formatting. I clearly don't know the program. And as much as I would love to be in Fort Wayne this weekend, I will be there in spirit only. I may see you (on the live feed) but you won't see me!

Gregory Sager

Happy to help, Paul. Unfortunately, I won't be in Fort Wayne this weekend, due to prior commitments I couldn't avoid. It's a shame, because I was looking forward to taking advantage of finally having the Final Four back in reasonable proximity to Chicago again.

The d3hoops.com All-Region teams were just released. Here's the Central Region picks.

Anyone want to climb out on a limb and guess who got picked as the Central Region's POY? ;)

(Congrats to Mike Schauer upon being named COY.)

The attendance at Amherst for the elite eight game was legit. I commented to my wife while watching that I was amazed how many people were there.

BTW - for those interested in Fort Wayne, I highly suggest listening to the interview we did with Nathan Dennison on Thursday's show. A lot of information you need to know: www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2018-19/mar7

So being a national columnist and frequent guest on Hoopsville along with being a WhipAround co-host prevents him from being a Wheaton fan, or any other fan of a specific team? Remember, UWPSUPERFAN77 just came out of hiberation from the mid-2000s to point out Stevens Point's inability to close out his beloved Platteville Pioneers in the WIAC title game.

Its interesting to see a 6-19 team in Concordia-Chicago feature two players on the all-region team, though one player is the rookie of the year.

Both Pelissier and Gladney put up legit numbers, so it's hard to argue with either choice taken singly. But, yeah, taken together they're a head-scratcher.

I think that it's probably a matter of defense, which is harder to measure on an individual basis than offense (unless you really want to get into the statistical weeds with plus/minus numbers, to which I doubt the d3hoops.com crew had access). The Cougars gave up an average of 93.2 ppg (eight points per game more than they scored) this season without having a single System team on the sked, which explains their won-lost record.

Well, that was about as big-time as you will ever see in your life.  I mean, Aston Francis......wow.  Just beyond words what that kid did last night.

I have made a lot of friends from Wheaton College over the years through my association here on d3boards.com.  You guys have been knocking on this door for so long, with so many great teams and players.  Happy for all of you.

In particular, my thoughts are with the late Dave Lawrenz ("Wheaton C" here) - a great friend and the biggest supporter of Wheaton athletics you'll ever find.  He is certainly smiling today.

Titan Q, I met you at The Shirk in 2003 when I was there to see my son Taylor play for Wheaton--I flew out from Oregon and watched him roll his ankle in the last minute of practice the day before the game, so he was out of commission for the week. Anyway, Dave Lawrenz was a friend of mine, he served on the Wheaton College Alumni Board with me for a few years back then, and he was the one who introduced me to you. I "lurk" around this board to keep up with the real scoop for CCIW football and basketball, and it was actually on this forum that I heard of Dave's passing. I had lost touch with him so did not know any of the circumstances. He was a good man and an absolute die-hard WC fan. Thank you for mentioning him.
Paul T. Armerding

I will see everyone in Fort Wayne.

I remember that well, Paul.  Thanks for posting.  It's nice to hear from you.

Definitely thinking about Dave a lot this week.  He would have been so excited that he'd be calling every 15 minutes to talk about this and that related to Final Four, the Oshkosh matchup, etc, etc.

Aside from you-know-who as POY and Mike Schauer as COY, CCIW players recognized were:

First Team
Aston Francis
Nolan Ebel
Connor Raridon

Second Team
Brady Rose
Crishawn Orange

Third Team
Jake Rhode

(Edited to add Nolan Ebel, whom I inadverently missed when I originally posted this...)

As Titan Q might note, Nolan Ebel is the obvious first selection from the CCIW.   ;D

Wow -- reading comprehension issue on my part.  My apologies to Mr. Ebel as he is a blindingly obvious first-team selection.

What did you expect, Mark? The game was played at Augustana, and Augie wasn't one of the two teams left.

The attendance of 359 listed in the box score seems low to me; most of what we were able to see on the webcast was the south stands of Carver, where the Marietta fans were sitting, and it looked as though the Pioneers brought a fairly large group of fans with them when you consider how far the Quad Cities are from extreme southeastern Ohio. The Wheaton fans were on the camera side, so it was hard to get a bead on just how many Wheaties were in the building, but it seemed like a decent contingent. Wheaton's fan base never travels particularly well for any sport, which is part of the downside to having Rand-McNally rosters, so I don't think that anybody should've had soaring expectations regarding Wheaton in terms of attendance, even considering that Rock Island is not exactly the other side of the planet from the western suburbs (as can be observed from a glance at any Augie athletics roster) and that the sectional finals in men's basketball are a pretty big deal for any collegiate fanbase.

Now, if you looked at the viewer numbers that Augustana had for the webstream of Saturday night's game, I'll bet that it was huge. A lot of people will be able to say someday that they saw Aston Francis go off for 62 points in the 2019 sectional finals.

Another factor, Friday was start of Spring Break so I wasn't expecting many students to attend the games in RI, even with the close proximity.  Case in point on the streaming, there's a nice video on Wheaton Athletics twitter of the baseball team on their spring trip all watching the game on the live stream and going crazy at that last shot.

The SID office also put together a 2 min video compilation of all 62 of Aston's points.  Nice job by them! Lot of work.
