Here's some offseason content for CCIW basketball fans.

Thanks to Greg Sager for some very helpful insight that helped me prepare for my interviews with Harper and Coach Djurickovic. I enjoyed speaking with both of them.

Once again great interview Gordon and thanks for the story!

Among my early memories as a 9th grader was my Dad and I hiking down to Centennial gym on a cold snowy night to see that Harper/Thomas North Park squad play Wheaton.  Our hopes to see a dunk ( rare in western DuPage Co back then, college or hs) up close and in person were realized when Harper, black glasses and all, took an inbounds, cruised right down the baseline of the North basket where we were sitting, and threw down a thundering one hander!!  The resulting roar of delight and awe from the crowd probably reached the Blanchard bell tower.  Still a vivid memory.

Congratulations to Michael Harper on this well deserved honor.

Very nice interview, piece on Harper.  Congrats to him on the Hall of Fame!

Thanks, gang. Glad you enjoyed it.

Bo Ryan is also being inducted into the Hall of Fame, and I hope that piece turns out as well.

This is a weird thing for a D3 lifer to admit, but ever since I saw the video of Bo Ryan dancing the Soulja Boy a dozen ago, that's the first thing that's come to mind whenever I read or hear his name.

Perhaps, Greg, you harbor a hidden desire to join Coach Ryan in busting out your Dance Fever like moves, and reveal another side of yourself in addition to your broadcasting talents.  :D

If so, that would also explain another factor in choosing NPU over the no-dancing Wheaton  . . .  :)

"Dance Fever"?! "Dance Fever"?! Mark, Dance Fever went off the air in 1987. In 1987 Bo Ryan had a .500 career coaching record after three seasons at UW-Platteville, and DeAndre Way, aka Soulja Boy, wasn't even a gleam in his daddy's eye yet.

The new millennium called, Mark, and it says that you're welcome to join it. ;)

When Wheaton finally lifted its ban on dancing sixteen years ago, there were a lot of long faces at NPU. For 33 years, ever since North Park had lifted its own ban on dancing in 1970, North Park students had made hay with Wheaton's dancing ban. Every men's basketball game against Wheaton, win or lose, inevitably ended with a "Let's go dancing! [clap, clap, clap-clap-clap]" chant from the Vikings faithful, and back in the '80s and even into the '90s it was commonplace for the North Park student section to break into an a capella rendition of "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats when Wheaton was the opponent at hand.

That all came crashing to a halt when the Wheaton administration had a change of heart and gave its blessing for the Wheaties to wapoo, crunk, yeet, mosh, or (much more likely) bust a move. The bright side is that it's made Foster's Finest (NPU's soccer student section, since it's very much a soccer > basketball situation at the Park in this era) much more creative in terms of how they taunt that much-despised school from DuPage County that has the orange-clad (and dancing-enabled) athletes.

The "Let's Go Dancing" chant was one of the best of all time.  My daughter, Samatha, was two when we had the privilege of living in Burgh Hall as Resident Directors. She just turned 40 and still remembers those games.

Hey, some things are timeless.  :D
Maybe it's a generational thing, but I just remember Dance Fever as the show where many of the latest and most popular dances made their first appearances. 🕺  ;D

Rather, yet, than anything resembling wapooing, crunking, yeeting, or, perhaps especially, moshing, I suspect most of the dancing still currently done in the Realm of Orange can still be classified more as something generally regarded as "safe" rather than, as in the Safety Dance lyrics "everything out of control."  ;)

Keondre Schumacher?
You mean IWU's new starting 2G?  ;)

Evidently, transfers are not subject to the same rules regarding foreign travel as incoming freshmen.

A summer course is not necessary.

For a Foreign Tour during the summer, a student-athlete that was eligible for intercollegiate competition the previous academic year - including at a previous school as long as the student-athlete is properly enrolled at the new school - is eligible.  Both of those apply to Schumacher.  After his redshirt season at D1 Winthrop in 2017-18, he was eligible during the 2018-19 season.  (17.29)

This is different than an incoming freshman.  An "incoming student-athlete" (ie not eligible for intercollegiate competition the previous academic year) can only participate in stuff once the regular practice season starts.

Schumacher's eligibility for this trip was confirmed by the NCAA and CCIW.

Augie already took their trip.  Didn't they go to Italy, as well?
