If Micah Martin is out for academic issues, does that mean he's out for the semester or it's still being "worked on"?

Some teams have more strict requirements for academic benchmarks.  I get the impression this is not an NCAA eligibility issue, but I don't know for sure.

Coach Grey Giovanine's exact explanation of Micah Martin's current unavailability is that Martin is presently "not meeting expectations of the program." That the coach's statement contains no reference to the NCAA, and does not include the word "eligibility" logically, as Ryan references above, leads one away surmising the problem has anything to do with NCAA eligibility issues. While some teams do require their student-athletes to maintain a higher degree of academic standing than does the NCAA, I sense the very real possibility exists that the problem is not even academic in nature. The bottom line is that a myriad of possibilities exist, and we'll probably never know the answer. Whatever it is, I'd bet the situation will resolve and we'll be seeing Micah Martin taking the court fairly soon.

Also, with regard to Greek Tragedy's original question—IF Martin is currently ineligible due to failure to meet NCAA academic requirements, I don't believe he could regain eligibility until the end of the current semester. It wouldn't be something that would be able to be "worked on" as the semester progressed, and suddenly be resolved at the end of the 6th, or 8th, or whatever week of the semester. Thats because current ineligibility would likely be based on his academic performance, or lack thereof, in the 2018-2019 spring semester, and he would then not be able to regain his eligibility until he satisfactorily finished another complete grading period which would seem to be a semester.

But again, its important to keep in mind that Mr. Martin could very well still be in excellent academic standing, both with the NCAA and Augustana. The issue could be something else entirely. Hopefully, things will successfully get worked out soon.

I was told by someone in the know that it is related to academics.  That's all I have.

In conjunction with Veterans Day yesterday, the CCIW website featured an article about student-athletes from all the conference schools who are competing in the conference this season, and are active or former military members. There was an "About" link to learn more about each individual. Also included were  ROTC members that are committed to service upon graduation. One of those ROTC members is North Central basketball guard Mike Pollack. As there was no "about" link for the ROTC members, I'm posting an article about Mike and his service for those interested in checking it out.

Carthage opens up tonight against the Beloit College Buccaneers.  Both teams finished 8-17 last season.

Beloit vs Carthage, 7pm Tuesday 11/12 at the Tarble Areana

Beloit (8-17 last year)  Guesses
G - Darin Empereur, 6-0/175 Sr.
G - Mylan Walters, 5-11/165 So.
F - Andrew Walters, 6-2/190 Jr.
F - Tristan Shoup, 6-5/225 Sr.
F - Dan Baab, 6-4/205 Sr.

Carthage (8-17 last year)
G - Jordan Kedrowski, 6-4/190 Sr.
G - TJ Best, 6-0/170 Jr.
F - Kienan Baltimore, 6-5/200 Sr.
F - Preston Laketa, 6-5/235 Sr.
C - Sean Johnson, 6-11/220 Jr.

It'll be interesting to see if Perry is just a name on the roster or if he's ready to go.  The guard rotation outside of Kedrowski is also something to watch.  From what I can see, Beloit doesn't have a lot of height and I do see a few games where they started 5 guards last season in games that were not against Grinnell.  Carthage won this match-up last season, 84-67 at Beloit.

Michael,

Nice lead in as I was going to give a recap from Bosko's overview in the paper today.  Bosko begins the season with 552 career wins (ninth most among active coaches in D3).  After a few comments on the poor year last year, he went on to say they have had an excellent three weeks of practice and there is a great amount of optimism in the building.

Mentioned the good size they have, the number of players who can score and very good depth.  Noted the seven seniors, but also that they have some underclassmen who will play a key role as well.

Talked about Kienan Baltimore at length, how he is such a good offensive player, who has gotten in better shape and that he's better defensively than he has ever been.

Brad Perry is mentioned along with Sean Johnson due to their size and the problems they will present to other teams.  There is no mention of who the starters will be.  They list the seven seniors and a few other returning players, but he does have quite a bit to say about the freshman, Filliip Bulatovic.  Bosko raves about him being an outstanding athlete, getting to the rim and handling the basketball.  He talks about how he played virtually every position in high school so should be able to fill many roles for the team this year.  Because of their depth, it sounds like the rotation will be fluid depending on the match ups.

As far as the conference, he calls out NC as the team everyone should be looking at, but after that, it should be interesting.  He certainly feels they are one of the good teams that will be competing for a top spot.

Plan to take in the game so will be able to give some more feedback on rotations and the new players later.

I had to switch to the incognito mode on chrome.  I've been having to do that more and more for live streams.  I don't know what it is about the cookie - maybe by "do not track" software is messing with it.  It works fine now, though.

NCC is more athletic than UWO; they need to get this game moving a bit more to really have a chance.

OK, Ryan, how do I do that?

If you're using chrome, up in the top right corner there should be a three dot logo, if you click on it you'll get a menu, go down to "new incognito window" and then cut and paste the video link into that browser window.  You do have to turn off your ad blocker, too.
