Great game in OT, NCC 74 WC 71.  Raridon with a ton, I think 36.

Laing, Boster, Hamming, etc., can pop the corks on the champers. The final CCIW unbeaten, Wheaton, has gone down, as North Central prevails in OT in the airplane hangar, 74-71.

Connor Raridon bossed this game. He had 36 points (including 15-15 from the charity stripe), pulled down 8 boards, had a 6:1 floor game, and hit the decisive trey with 43 seconds left that flipped a two-point Wheaton lead into a 72-71 NCC edge. Luke Anthony got stripped in the lane by Aiden Chang on the ensuing Wheaton possession, but NCC threw it away on a length-of-the-court inbound try. Cade Alioth got the ball in the low post in the waning seconds, but blew a bunny. Raridon rebounded, hit two more FTs, and that was that. Not a tremendously artistic game, and the officials called some real head-scratchers both ways, but an instant classic nonetheless.

Augustana dispatched Carthage with a minimum of fuss tonight, 84-68, up at Tarble. Pierson Wofford paced the Greymen with 20 and 6, while Austin Elledge (18 pts) and Micah Martin (17 and 8 with 3 rejections) did their bit as well. Lucas Simon had 10 boards, and Jack Jelen had a fine 5:1 floor game. The Red Men placed five in double figures: Crishawn Cook had 14, while Fillip Bulatovic, Sean Johnson, and Jordon Kedrowski each scored a dozen. Preston Laketa contributed 10 points as well.

Kienen Baltimore played nine minutes off the bench and scored two points.

Yep. I'm listening to John Weiser's post-game report, and he said that Baltimore blatantly stepped on Jack Jelen during a dead ball and immediately got the thumb from the refs.

* Keondre Schumacher: 12 pts, 3 reb
* Doug Wallen: 11 pts, 2 assists
* Charlie Bair: 9 pts, 12 reb

* Calvin Fisher: 20 pts, 8 reb, 2 assists
* Jake Hampton: 16 pts, 8 reb

Sophomores Cory Noe and Matt Leritz made some key baskets and plays to help turn this game around early in the 2nd half.

IWU has a terrific freshman in Luke Yoder.  Just so fundamentally sound in everything he does on both ends of the floor.

Millikin is a dangerous team - they have a lot of good players.

Here is said decisive trey.

It was kind of a weird one. NCC needed to empty its reserve of timeouts in overtime prior to that length-of-the-court throwaway, and Will Clausel got to it just in time to force Wheaton to go the length of the floor. Also, because it's not a Wheaton-North Central game without one, Schauer got a warning late in the first half, this one for haranguing the officials first about his team getting whistled for about half a dozen travels in the first half, then about the fact that his team had picked up nine fouls to the Cardinals' three.

Fun one at the end of the day though.

Yeah, that's a big reason why I said that it was "not a tremendously artistic game" in Napervegas tonight. The Cardinals had a few traveling calls whistled against them as well, as the first half was pretty much a mess for both teams from an aesthetic point of view. But the bottom line for me is always whether or not a game is close and exciting, and on another night this would've been by far the most exciting of the four league games. But that Elmhurst @ Carroll game ... whew. John Baines and Paul Combs must've bitten their nails right down to the cuticle. And Dotlich's 40-foot buzzer-beater deserves to be floating around on Twitter as well, if it isn't already.

And for those of you counting on your fingers and toes at home, the CCIW has now gone 47 seasons without a team going undefeated in league play in men's basketball.

NCC 74  Wheaton 71 OT

Really great game.  I've said that Connor Raridon is the best player in the league which is not exactly going out on a limb.  But he really showed it tonight basically willing his team to victory with half their offensive output.   It would've been another nice road one to get - but they had their chances.  They were stuck on 63 points for the last 4 mins of the game and just couldn't get a basket to go.  At least 3 critical free throw misses late in the game while Raridon is going 15/15 on the other end.  However, Wheaton did play really great defense I thought.  In fact both teams did.  A minor solace is that it was a game NCC had to have to "hold serve" while slightly less so for the Thunder.

Anajuwon Spencer picking up his third and then fourth foul within 10 secs of each other with 15 mins left in the game really hurt the team.  Hawkins was waiting to sub for him but he unwisely went for an aggressive ball denial on Raridon on the next play and picked up #4.  He sat out the next 9 mins and eventually fouled out.  Wheaton does not have the depth to replace starters for long stretches without it costing.  A senior needs to know better.

Wheaton +10 on the glass (38-28) but -10 on turnovers (18-8, yikes).

Broken record alert:  Cade Alioth (12 pts, 11 rebs, 6 asst vs 3 to) continues to impress in all kinds of ways.  He has become a key player equally as Adom, Cruickshank or Anthony.  I doubt Mike Schauer would have drawn up the play for him on that last OT possession down by 1, but they had no timeouts left and just had to go with whatever.

The officiating was indeed very poor and inconsistent which frustrated both teams.  I do give them credit for giving Raridon a flop warning.  He excels at drawing contact – hence the free throws- but sometimes a little over-dramatic.

Finally:  Big time shout out to the NCC pep band for showing up and playing even while school is still out.  Looks to be about 40-50 strong and they do a great job entertaining and cheering their team.  Much appreciated!

Yeah, that was a draw dropper.  He'd spent the entire second half posting up, drawing fouls and wearing out the floor boards at the free throw line.  Totally predictable but Wheaton still couldn't stop it.  And then with his team down 2 to see him pull up for that trey - good stuff for sure.

Time for North Park to get rid of Slyder and bring Fano back into the program. Local guy that can coach and recruit. Look at what he is doing up in Minnesota in a short period of time. NP basketball is sad. 87 JV team beats todays starting lineup everytime.

Hard to picture that since they are all in their 50s.
