* Doug Wallen: 16 pts, 8 reb
* Pete Lambesis: 16 pts, 5 reb
* Luke Yoder: 11 pts, 3 assists
* Charlie Bair: 10 pts, 12 reb

I thought the Titans, overall, were impressive today.  They played hard and they played tough.  It is the best they have played since Rock Island...and the best game without Grant Wolfe of the season.

IWU is pretty young.  Every guy that played today returns next year.  Seems like some guys are starting to figure things out and turning a corner.

If the Titans play like this the rest of the way, they'll stay right in the middle of the title race.

North Central 6-1
Elmhurst 6-1
Augustana 5-2
Illinois Wesleyan 5-2
Wheaton 4-3
Carthage 3-4

Nice road win for the #10 'jays.

After a very tight first half, Elmhurst pulled away early in the second and really controlled things.  Wheaton made a little bit of a run in the last 90 secs to close within 5 but it was way too little too late.

I haven't seen all their games, but of the four I've witnessed this was the best I've seen EC play.  They are just a really good team even if not very deep.  Jake Rhode(24 pts) was on his stellar game.  I've always liked Derek Dotlich (20 pts) who has really stepped up his game going to the hoop as opposed to just shooting 3s which he still does well.  Dominic Genco has been a nice addition and played well tonight.  They looked like a top ten team tonight.

This Wheaton team has been living/dying by the 3 pt shooting.  And tonight they were mediocre for the second game in a row.  3-20 on Wed, 11/33 tonight but couldn't get the critical ones.  A pretty astounding stat was 35 free throws for the Blue Jays vs only 8 for Wheaton.  Anajuwon Spencer led the Thunder with 20 pts, 11 rebs.

With conference action always comes surprises. There are teams who upset those at the top of the conference and make the races a bit more interesting. That is especially true for programs who look to distance themselves from the rest of the conference, but a surprising loss keeps those plans at bay.

Sunday night on Hoopsville, we continue to dive into conferences races across the country and look at how the last week's results have either helped clear up races or made them more messy. Plus we talk to several conference leaders to find out how they are faring.

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. You can watch Sunday's show LIVE starting at 7:00 pm ET in the following ways:

Elmhurst's win at Wheaton was the first at King Arena since the 2008-09 season.  Solid week for Elmhurst I didn't expect the Jays to take both road games.  The team is looking sharper and more crisp.   Hope they can sustain this throughout the remainder of the season.

They have played better than I expected! Big game with IWU Wednesday, if the Jays win and NC loses to Augustana then I would have to make them the favorite for the title. Any of the top 5 can win the conference.  Of course the big deal is the AQ and if you win the CCIW you get to host!

There's so much parity this year, I don't think there is 1 clear favorite. Have to take it 1 game at a time.  But to steal 2 wins on the road against decent teams, is definitely a plus.

Mike Schauer called Elmhurst a FF caliber team.  From what I saw, no reason to dispute that.  Stay healthy and never know . . .

Elmhurst picks up a commitment from Carl Sandburg HS 6'8" F, Jack Walsh.

Final 4 already?   ::)   Well,  hopefully but I'd be hesitant to put them into that category.    Baines is doing a great job leading this team.  I knew once he was given an opportunity (whether at EC or elsewhere) he was going to be a success.   Young(er) been a success at a CCIW school, knows the conference and local Chicago 'burbs" well,   all the makings of being a quality coach.  Not to mention just a great person.

Because you would know more than the CCIW coach who has most recently been there? Sounds rational.

"FF caliber" is NOT necessarily predicting they will make the FF - there is always the bracket and the 'luck' factor.

But the new poll is now up, and the voters also think Elmhurst if FF caliber - they just jumped from #10 to #4!

NCC held steady at #16, Carthage lost their two points, and (surprisingly, IMO) Augie fell from 9 points to 2 - they went 2-0 and beat Wheaton.

Congrats to EC and Coach Baines on #4 -- probably highest ever for EC, right?   I'm sticking with my bet on NCC for the CCIW crown.

Big game for IWU vs. EC.  Hope we have our "put it all together" game vs. the Jays.

Happy Rat Year to all -- in just a few days now.

This last poll strikes me as having much more dramatic movement than normal.  That's a really big jump for EC.  But the poll really crushed Emory(#3 to #8), Wittenberg(2-7) and Middlebury (5-12) for losses to ranked teams on the road.
