For some reason, I thought that game at Lawrence as well, but that would not make sense.

Hard to believe that was 10-11 years ago.

Pat Coleman

I had thought it was at Wash U, until I looked it up today!

Agree Greg. I remember calling the Wash U NCAA Regional game at RAF a few years back.  I forget who the Bears were playing (Lawrence maybe?) but the kid missed a chance to upset the Bears on the final shot.  In the line for shaking hands Mark (HC) extended his hand, lifted up the kid's head and said some encouraging words to lift his spirits.  Most likely something like,  "you played your heart out kid and don't hand your head.."   I thought that was really neat for an opposing coach to give the opposing team's star some support.

Are you sure that you're remembering this correctly, Mark? Wash U played Aurora in the first round at Faganel in 2001, and Elmhurst had a bye. But that Wash U vs. Aurora game wasn't close; the Bears trounced the Spartans, 101-84. Now, the next night, the game was close; Elmhurst nipped Wash U, 78-77, as Ryan Knuppel hit the game-winning shot for the 'jays. (I was there for that game.)

Lawrence game was 2009. Game was at Elmhurst.

Yes - Bracket of Death year . . .  Wheaton also hosting.

yes Pat,  '09 and I thought it was Lawrence.   LU had a chance for an upset and fell short.  The Regional was at RAF.

My bad. I thought that you were no longer doing Elmhurst PBP by that point.

Are you sure that your information about Millikin is accurate, Bob?

* Calvin Fisher hasn't played since he was injured in the North Central game a week and a half ago.
* Cole Laurence didn't play at Augustana on Saturday, and I think I remember Chris and Dan saying something on the air about his being hurt as well.
* Zach Fisher didn't start at Augustana, and he only played 11 minutes off of the bench in that game. He missed the three games before that. He had been averaging 33 minutes per game through the first contest against Illinois Wesleyan, but something obviously happened to him either in that game or in subsequent practices prior to the next game (at North Park), because he's only averaged 23 minutes per game since, and, as I said, he missed three straight games and only made that somewhat minor appearance as a reserve at Augie on Saturday. He's obviously either aggravated the injury that kept him out at the beginning of the year or is trying to play through a new one. Either way, I'd say that his likelihood of starting tonight at the Griz is in question.

I have zero idea who the heck is playing for Millikin.  I just picked some guys and listed them.

Continuing that thought, here's how much of a mess Jimmy Millikin is in at the moment due to all of those injuries, plus the horrific one suffered by Korbin Farmer on Saturday:

I'm the scorekeeper for North Park JV games, so I am very familiar with the players MU used in its JV game against NPU in the crackerbox four weeks ago. Five of those JV players -- David Biggs, Tyler Joest, Kevin Miller, Jarius Ingram, and Trey Griffey -- played double-digit minutes in Saturday's varsity game at Augustana.

I just looked up Trey Griffey's roster bio, because I haven't kept track of how old Ken Griffey Jr's son might be.  I sure hope this Trey Griffey's parents have a sense of humor and not just ignorance of the other one's existence.  That would be joyous.

The other Trey Griffey, the washout would-be NFL wide receiver with the illustrious baseball lineage (real name George Kenneth Griffey III), was born in 1994, so he's quite a bit older than the Millikin freshman. Unlike the son of Ken Griffey, Jr. and grandson of Ken Griffey, Sr., the MU Trey Griffey's name appears to be an arbitrarily-chosen birth name rather than a nickname based upon a Roman-numeral generational suffix in his full name. The MU Trey Griffey's father's name is Chris. It's still possible that the Millikin freshman is a legitimate "III", since generational suffixes aren't necessarily father-to-son-to-grandson, but generational suffixes that don't follow a generation-by-generation direct line are extremely rare in American culture.

Interestingly, the Big Blue freshman's older brother has a Wiki entry. Tyler Griffey played for Illinois and hit a buzzer-beater that allowed the Illini to beat top-ranked Indiana back in the 2012-13 season. He then went on to play two years of pro ball in Austria.

We finally get a JV basketball report.  Never expected it to come from Sager.   ;D

"Report"? Not really. More of a mere mention of prior JV participation in order to set up a point regarding Mark Scherer's currently-available personnel at MU.

Heaven forbid that I should give an honest-to-goodness JV game report. ;)

Mr. Ypsi

Possible upset alert.  At the half, Millikin 46, IWU 33. :o

This is not the rivalry of 50 years ago - when I accompanied IWU to Decatur, the gym was ALWAYS jammed.  I'm seeing a LOT of empty seats.  Of course, when I was a Titan, Millikin had Jesse Price. ;)
