Wheaton is running a live stream series titled Wheaton Classics where they re-watch classic Wheaton games and have input from coaches, participants, etc.  On Thursday it was Wheaton v Augie in the Sweet 16 at Augie with Mike Schauer, Jay Spencer, Luke Anthony, and of course Aston Francis.  After the stream was shut down due to technical problems, they posted the entire live stream on YouTube.  Memorable game for Wheaton fans and cool to see it from a deeper perspective.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1Lrq5dOZNg

Tonight is the Elite Eight Game v Marietta.  Additional sports and games to be added later.  I believe the format will be the same, a live stream that will be posted to YouTube after the fact.

For all the nights of lost sleep on Aston's account throughout the CCIW, I don't know that anyone has nightmares worse than Marietta. One of the most memorable individual performances you may ever see. Will be interesting to hear Aston's own accounting of this one.
You win some, you lose some, and sometimes it rains.

Anybody know if any of Coach G's sons are under age 20?  Why walk away from free tuition?

He's gotta have a plan as opposed to walking away from a successful coaching career at around age 60.

Then again, cost of living in Moline is quite low so perhaps he has quite a nest egg.
Once a metalhead, always a metalhead.  Matthew 5:13.

Titan Q

Grey Giovanine was 214-88 (.709) in CCIW play over 21 yrs. He had a winning record vs each opponent:

*0.883 vs North Park
*0.881 vs Millikin
*0.750 vs Carroll
*0.714 vs Elmhurst
*0.690 vs Carthage
*0.619 vs NCC
*0.619 vs Wheaton
*0.595 vs IWU

That's hard to do.

Shameless tease and promotion ... he speaks about this item on this month's Hoopsville podcast ... which will be out early next week. This month is a two-parter and Giovanine and other interviews are in part one.

Congrats to CCIW coaches Todd Raridon of North Central and John Baines of Elmhurst who have been named D3 Co-College Coaches of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. They are two of three D3 coaches (Keith Bunkenburg of BenU), and two of ten college coaches in Illinois to earn the honor from across all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA.

He's gotta have a plan as opposed to walking away from a successful coaching career at around age 60.

Then again, cost of living in Moline is quite low so perhaps he has quite a nest egg.

Coach G lost more than half a million in a ponzi scheme if memory serves.

I checked in with IWU G Grant Wolfe today. Grant averaged 18 ppg, 3 rpg, 4 apg in 7 games last year. Missed the other 21 due to 2 concussions.

Grant said he has been feeling back to normal for about a month now. The plan is to be ready to go for the 2020-21 season.

Bob, that's GREAT news!  Now we just have to hope that there IS a 2020-21 season! ;)

Just days before the start of the 2019-20 season, Glenn Robinson announced he was retiring from coaching. He was the first domino to fall. Since then, more than 4,000-wins have been taken out of the active record books thanks to the retirements of a number of the division's and sport's best coaches.

In what is the first of a two-part May Podcast, Dave chats with some of those who announced their retirements since the season ended. What drove them to the decision to walk away? What will they remember about their careers (many at a single institution)? And will they still be part of the game?

Guests include:
- Dave Hixon, Amherst men's coach (42 seasons, 826 wins)
- Ken DeWeese, Mary Hardin-Baylor men's coach (21 seasons, 400 wins)
- Carol LaHaye, Randolph-Macon women's coach (38 season, 647 wins)
- Grey Giovanine, Augustana men's coach (21 seasons, 433 wins)

Dave also has a brief idea of what is being discussed when it comes to the coronavirus and the challenges institutions face both on campus and with athletics. Plus, the Hoopsville Notebook has updates on moving the three-point line, Regional Realignment/Expansion, and even the Wild Williams World of Sports.

You can listen to the podcast here: https://bit.ly/2YVyRnU

Hoopsville broadcasts from the WBCA/NABC Studio. All guests are featured on the BlueFrame Technology Hoopsville Hotline. The offseason plan is to do a podcast each month. The shows will be audio-only leading up to the start of the 2020-21 when we will restart the video shows.

Q, very delighted to hear the news about Grant Wolfe.  Hope he's able to go in the '20-21 season.  That would be grand, with Yoder and Noe there too, Schumacher as well.  Strong crew of perimeter players.

Sending good wishes to all from Hong Kong.  I'm planning on staying here a bit longer as it is clearly safer here than in the US just now.  We are at 1047 cases, only 4 deaths, and 993 folks returned home, recovered after hospital care.  Public health policies and infrastructure and hospital capacity all holding up very well.  Yes, we have major political and governance problems, likely to re-emerge soon, but the virus situation has been handled very very well.  I give all credit to the public health officials and the front-line medical heroes here. . . they are very very good.

I hope all CCIW chatsters and friends are safe and well.  Take good care, take all precautions.

California just announced its 23 university campuses will conduct most classes online, affecting over 500,000 students.

The loss of sport will doom North Park University.  Viking football and soccer players tend to chose my alma mater primarily to play sport. If there is no season, those kids will not enroll and go elsewhere. No money coming in to live in the dorm or attend class.  Uff da!

I have encouraged the President since she started her job to cut football, track, cross country, tennis...and there could be others...to save money, and join the NAIA, which does not require a minimum of 14 athletic teams.  She never responds to my emails.  John Born does not either.

This confuses me ... you talk about how no sports could doom NPU, but then on the other hand brag about emailing the president about cutting sports to save money.

Did it occur to you that your plan would likely doom NPU as well? Athletics brings in guarunteed enrollment, thus why the first part of your comment would be a concern for most DIII institutions. However, your second part seems to not understand that cutting sports especially like football, track, and others causes the loss of a LOT of students who pay tuition, room and board, and other fees.
