California just announced its 23 university campuses will conduct most classes online, affecting over 500,000 students.

The loss of sport will doom North Park University.  Viking football and soccer players tend to chose my alma mater primarily to play sport. If there is no season, those kids will not enroll and go elsewhere. No money coming in to live in the dorm or attend class.  Uff da!

I have encouraged the President since she started her job to cut football, track, cross country, tennis...and there could be others...to save money, and join the NAIA, which does not require a minimum of 14 athletic teams.  She never responds to my emails.  John Born does not either.

I can't wait to hear Sager's response to this.

Is 14 a CCIW minimum?  I believe the D3 minimum is still 10, right?

Mark's entitled to his opinions. In this case, they aren't widely shared at all by other North Parkers. I happen to think that he's dead wrong that the loss of sports for a year will doom NPU. It certainly won't help matters, but there appears to be enough of a financial cushion to get the school through a year without sports. And there's no way that the Evangelical Covenant Church will abandon its one and only school.

His proposal for NPU to cut certain sports and move to the NAIA is, in my opinion, absolutely wrong-headed, and President Surridge and John Born have responded properly to his proposal by ignoring it.

The CCIW rule, in Article III, Section 2 of the league's constitution, is that each member school field teams in six sports: Football, basketball, and baseball for men, and volleyball, basketball, and softball for women. There is no minimum set specifically by the league; the minimum of ten (five men, five women) set by D3 itself is the rule.

Listened to D-Mac's Hoopsville interview with Grey Giovanine, which I really enjoyed.

The best part was when Grey mentioned Augustana's medical school. :D

That particular CCIW Chat trope has turned out to be worth all the corn in Manito.

Medical school was one of a few fun little nuggets in that interview. :)

I've learned that Loras head coach Chris Martin is not pursuing the Augustana job.

Grey stated they don't have a med school but a med program. I know it's a long running joke on this board, but there is an actual program. One of my roomates was pre-med, another pre-dentistry and I was a slacker business major.

Well lots of schools have pre-med. Even my alma mater had pre-med, but that doesn't mean there is a medical school. :)

Yeah, one of my favorite former students (and a two-year member of the basketball team) is in Medical School, but he was a history major and took the minimum requirements to get in.

Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Calculus II, Biology with a few labs.

Yes, we all know that. I suspect that most, if not all, CCIW schools have a pre-med program, even if it's not specifically called by that term.

Giovanine brought it up in the context of the "med school" joke that started here in the wake of an Augustana recruit telling the local media that he'd chosen Augustana because of its "med school," likely confusing the two ideas. And that's why I brought it up; it's yet another confirmation that CCIW coaches follow this board fairly faithfully.

There was a terrific nugget about coaches and these boards in another one of the interviews from the podcast ... near the end ... that was outstanding. I hope everyone heard it because it means at least one coach may start showing up on the boards ... if we notice.
