Renaissance man, author, Fulbright recipient, and raconteuer Rus Bradburd is truly one of the most interesting CCIW men's basketball alumni ever. In this podcast interview from yesterday he talks a bit about his most recent book, All the Dreams We've Dreamed, and tells stories in his inimitable fashion about some of the fascinating things he's done, places he's been, and people he's met. Check this out ... it's fifty minutes of listening that will be worth your while:

Ryan Scott is going to hate this.

I love it and will be glad to watch Millikin basketball with the sound off.

Your loss.  How will you ever learn about amazing new insights like "the bad team theory" with the sound off?

That's what he pays allows the rest of us schmucks to have an account for, so we can bring it up for him to shake his head about later. :)

Congrats to NPU's sports information graduate assistant Sam Viebrock, who was just named as the new SID at Olivet Nazarene University.

Someone told me today that Steve Schafer is emerging as a lead candidate for the Augie job.  Seems to make sense, but I can't confirm that at all.

As a UWSP and WIAC fan, I don't follow the Illinois high school basketball scene much at all.  With most of the CCIW recruits coming from Illinois, this might be a good question for you CCIW fans.

UWSP recently got a commitment from 6'4" Belvidere North wing, Anthony Espensen.  I see that he isn't ranked at all in Illinois on prep hoops, which seemed odd to me considering so many D3 recruits are ranked there.  Anyone have any knowledge on his situation??  Who was recruiting him?(From what I saw on twitter, other WIAC schools were also interested in him) I'm just curious because his highlights look really good to me.  They show a very balanced offensive player, athletic and a good defender.

Yes, I know you don't care about recruiting and rankings, I'm asking the ppl who follow it.  I'm not really concerned about rankings...just thought it was odd he wasn't ranked at all considering how many D3 recruits are ranked on that site.  Like I said, I'm very impressed with watching his highlights, shows a complete game on both sides of the floor.

Who says that I don't care about recruiting? I care very much about it. And it's an overstatement to say that I don't care about online rankings. I simply don't put as much stock in them as some other posters do.

He's a logical choice. Has his master's degree, Augie player and grad, assistant coach and chief recruiter at both North Park and Benedictine, ran a D3 program at Fontbonne, and has not only built a men's basketball program from scratch at Benedictine-Mesa, he's run the entire athletic department there as the AD since the inception of intercollegiate athletics at Ben-Mesa six years ago.

I'm kicking myself for not including him on my previous list -- especially since he was North Park's assistant coach under Paul Brenegan for five years, so I should've known better.

You definitely fooled me then.  You don't care about commitments, you're the first to mention how commitments mean little and to let you know when a kid makes a deposit at said school.  That's not me, I want to see who commits where and the commitments I have seen have an extremely high success rate for those kids showing up at the school they have committed to.
