GS : Nice call on the Alioth "own goal". . . a crazy one.

What can I say? A Wheaton/NPU soccer reference was handed to me on a silver platter. Couldn't miss that chance. ;)

Interesting game between the Thunder and the Eastern Vikings. I think North Park is going to give teams trouble this year. They appear to be one of those teams that never go away. I was troubled a Wheaton's poor free throw shooting. Something about North Parks spacing on defense seemed to bother the Thunder too. Good call as usual by Sager.

WC @ NPU wasn't the only CCIW barnburner tonight. Carthage eked out a 67-64 win over Carroll at Van Male in a game that went down to the wire, in spite of the fact that The Team Without A Nickname built a double-digit lead less than four minutes into the contest. Carroll never went away, though, and the Pioneers took their first lead of the game with eight minutes and change remaining. But Carthage managed to stay in front for the last two and a half minutes of the game, in spite of the fact that the visitors only held a single-possession lead for nearly that entire span. Reigning CCIW POW Fillip Bulatovic (memo to North Park: break that streak of opposing players winning the POW at your expense!) had a 26 and 8 night to pace Carthage, while Sean Johnson added 14 and T.J. Best chipped in 10. Tarren Hall led the way for the Pios with 27, while the two Justins, Steinike and Gruber, scored 12 and 10, respectively.

Barring any last-minute schedule disruptions, next Tuesday evening North Park will visit King Arena to play its eighth game of the season ... while idle Elmhurst will still have to wait two more days after that to take to the floor for the first time in 2021.

This season is turning out even stranger than I thought it would ... and that's saying something.

Does this covid scheduling mean the schools pay less to the NCAA, or confrences considering cancelled sports and or limited scheduling of sports?  Just curious.

I don't believe there is any change to what the schools pay. There was a significant budget shortfall last year and there is no guarantees right now of what the future budgets will look like (the DI March Madness is sorely needed for the entirety of the NCAA).

As for what conferences do, I think it will be a mixed bag. Each conference and such could possibly make different decisions. More of the focus is really on spring sports and trying to maintain the one group that lost pretty much their entire seasons already and trying to keep that from happening again.

NCAA dues are, what?  $2000 for a school and $1000 for a conference?  Even on the scale of D3 budgets, that's not a huge line item.  They're paying far more in conference dues, to be sure.  That's where the conversation will be interesting, at least for conferences that aren't holding events this season.

Cool non-conf home & home set now...

Illinois Wesleyan will travel to Yeshiva next season; Yeshiva will play in IWU's Jack Sikma HOF tourney in 2022-23.

Augustana 98 Milikin 82 this afternoon.  Augie jumped out to a 17 - 4 lead just over 5 minutes into the game on the hot shooting of Luke Johnson (22 pts 5-5 3pt) and Carter Duwa 29pts, and led 45-31 at the half.  Daniel Carr recorded a double double with 21 and 12.

Milikin was lead by Calvin Fisher with 26 and 4, and Scott Gowan with 20 points.

10 total free throws were shot in the 1st half, and the whistles came more frequently in the 2nd with 41 free throws attempted, even though the lead never dipped below 13 points until there was 2 minutes left in the game.

Will be interesting to see what adjustments are made as they face off again in just under 27 hour from now.

That's fantastic! Great to see teams they would not typically get to play.
