Firebird. Carthage Firebirds.

Not impressed. Even though I get to be the one to break it in tomorrow afternoon.

You should make it a point to point that out during the intros.

How about Redd Foxx?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stdi-1tIUhM

Redd Foxx was a great comedian, but I don't think he has any association with Carthage.

GU1999

Fair point.  If he had such a connection, would you have supported it?

Next Man Up

Prior to Thursday's NCC Cardinals @ the Carthage Nameless Ones game, a large component of CC Coach Steve Djurickovic's game plan was to get the ball inside to 6' 11" Sean Johnson in order to take advantage NCC's diminutive defenders. However, the victorious visitors limited Johnson to 7 shots whereas, seemingly going against pre-game strategy, the No Namers threw up 27 bombs from downtown Kenosha. Did they ignore coach's instructions, or was there a shift in strategy during the contest?

Several feelers were sent in Naperville's direction with regard to the availability of Blaise Meredith for today's game.
The majority were returned with a positive response. However, as we all know, the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray. The definitive answer will be revealed during warmups.

One of the semi finalists for the new Carthage athletic nickname was FLEET.
The explanation of the thinking regarding the submission of this possibility was 'A fleet is a collection of ships that draws strength from unity. This name acknowledges ancient Carthage's maritime prowess, celebrates our Great Lake, and conveys the Carthage spirit. We sail together as one team toward a shared goal.'
Too bad this wasn't the final choice as it would have come with a, let's say, "natural" cheer——Come on Carthage, give 'em an (FLEET) enema! 😉

Another close-but-no-cigar game for NPU. Frustrating.

It seems the chips didn't fall for the Cardinals in Napervegas. What ultimately proved to be the winning points for the new Firebirds (a 3 pointer) were the only points scored off the Carthage bench in the entire game, and were banked by a player inserted only because one of the Carthage starters fouled out.
NCC wins by 20 in Kenosha on Thurs, then turns around and loses to the same team by 3 at home 2 days later. No doubt a frustrating day in the Vegas of the Midwest.

Carroll had a more productive first half today than Thursday when they only scored 14. Today, the Pios had 16 at halftime vs Wheaton (42) whose 2nd half production the Pios actually matched at 39.

That bench three by Kyle Czerak, let's also note, came at the end of the shot clock, falling away, contested, and I think rattled a bit too. He actually went to high school with my brother, and my dad texted me earlier today to say hi if I got the chance. I didn't, and my dad texted later, "foiled by the ACC grad."

Crazy thing to me about today's game: when Blaise Meredith hit his two free throws to make it a one point game with 6.3 seconds left, other then two extra seconds being on the clock, the game situation was exactly the same as last year's matchup between these two teams at the hangar. But where Kienan Baltimore missed the front end of the one-and-one to allow the Miracle on Brainard Street to happen a year and a day ago, Josh Washburn hit both free throws to seal it for the Firebirds.

Well, yeah - if his family gave their blessing.

Vikings pulled away from a seesaw battle midway through the second half to motor to a convincing road win. This snaps an ugly seven-game losing streak for NPU that was characterized by a number of agonizingly close defeats. Nicely done tonight, gentlemen.
