Well one thing is clear the wrong hire was made last year because there's no way the administration thought this was a one year deal. This is exactly what happens when hires are made based on politics and alumni influence instead of who is the flat out best guy for the job. Let's see if Augie can get it right this time.

Not every day you get a second chance to make the right decision. You're right tko, they should have hired Jim Thomas a year ago.

Let's see if they can do that this year, but my bet is the job goes to Tom Jessee. A sudden coaching change like this one seems to me to be quickly filled by promoting an assistant. We'll see how it goes though.

NCC RECRUITS

I've learned Vince Kmiec and his cohorts at North Central have secured the following recruits. Some of the names having appeared on Twitter.

* Michael Landa, a 6'3" SF from Plainfield East. No stats I could find.

* Caden Moyer, a. 6'6" PF from Dakota IL HS who averaged 14.0 ppg, and 9.0 rpg while shooting 55% from the field, and 83% from the line.

* Ryan Tilstra, a 6'2" Wing from Iroquois West HS who put up 14.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 1.1 apg.

* Jack McMillian, a 6'0" Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 1A All-State PG also from Iroquois West HS who averaged 15.6 ppg, 4.6 apg, 3.9 rpg, and 2.3 spg.

* Jon Blumeyer, a 6'1" IBCA Class 2A All-State SG from Dee-Mack HS who averaged 16.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 6.3 apg.
He shot 53.2% from the field while scoring > 1,000 points.

* Word is also circulating about a possible noteworthy transfer. We'll see if anything comes of this.

So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Yeah, that certainly may be the case,........ pursing his 'professional' dream job that is.

It's just frustrating because he seemed very invested in the Augustana coaching job when he moved across the country and talked of a lengthy stay and working toward national prominence.  Being from Batavia, it seemed right like he was coming home.  One would think you would be "all in" and have everything though out prior to making such a move.  I'm sure the Augie administration felt like this was hire for the next 20 years.

Must be a great opportunity.... I'm thinking a job with the Pheonix Suns?

Yes, partial ownership I'm told! 🤗 😉

Whoa, Whoa I never said they should have hired Jim last year, they shoulda hired me last year. I said if Jim wants it now maybe they should hire him. I was and am still by far and away the best guy for the job but situations and circumstances change. Maybe Tom Jessee gets it now but to be clear Jim is no where near close to being as viable candidate as me. Not even close but Augie missed their chance to hire a great coach 🙋🏽‍♂️. So Jim or Tom or even Alex would be solid at this point.

Yes, Coach Thomas is certainly who tko was referring to. 🙃

Tom Jessee? Really?

Apparently sarcasm is a lost art . . . Obviously coach Kelly was talking about himself. I was with the camp that thought Thomas should have been the guy who Augie chose last year. His ability to recruit kids from this area (Chicago Suburbs) would be second to none. Ask anyone who's ever played for him at DGN or for Mercury Elite. Was a no-brainer for me.

Also, why wouldn't you promote someone who is already with the program?

Fwiw, both Arizona and Arizona State basketball programs have to make a lot of hires.

Why are you insinuating that he wasn't all-in and had everything thought out? He made it clear that the new position in Arizona was only recently offered to him. And I think it's rather obvious that the offer took him by surprise.

Ron Rose and the Titans have landed Harrison Wilmsen, a 6-9 F from Priory HS in STL.

As SR - 23 pts, 12 reb; 54% FG. 1st Team Class 4 all-state.

Big, skilled post that was heavily recruited at scholarship levels for football (QB) and basketball.

I appreciate loyalty and commitment as virtues as much as the next basketball fan, but I do not think players or coaches should be expected to be more loyal than society at large.

Not to cast aspersions on this young man at all, but you do have to wonder, this time of year, about how many of these decisions were made because they didn't get into a more selective school.

What a crappy thing to say about a D3 commit.
