My Q-cast conversation with Steve Djurickovic...and a special guest.

Great show...I've watched both seasons.  Keep up the good work and the D3 evangelism!

Wheaton  66
Ripon 62

Eli Considine  19 pts, 4 reb
Cade Alioth, 17 pts, 16 rebs
Nyameye Adom, 19 pts

Ryan Steffes  17 pts, 6 rebs
Jaylen Mahone  17 pts, 7 rebs

The Thunder really struggled in this one and were lucky to come out with the victory.  Ripon gave them all they could handle.  Wheaton took an early lead by as much as 13 pts in the first quarter.  But credit the gritty Redhawks for hanging in and coming back as Wheaton went ice cold from the field and closed with 3 pts at halftime.

In the 2nd half Wheaton got out to a 10 pt lead but really couldn't put Ripon away.  Ripon came back to take a one point lead but
a rare Cade Alioth trey put Wheaton up ahead for good with a minute left.

Michael Osborne: 18 pts, 6:0 a:to
Jalen Boyd: 13 pts
Gabe Johnson: 11 pts, 6:1 a:to, 3 stls
Adam Bulwa: 10 pts, 12 rebs

Another close one for the Vikings, and this one they squeaked out the win. Despite blowing a nine-point second-half lead in a game in which they shot poorly, defense and second-chance points (10 steals and 19 offensive rebounds for the day) kept NPU level with the sort of smart, fundamentally solid Buena Vista team that BVU always seems to turn out. In the final minute NPU managed to break a 66-all tie on an Adam Bulwa layup, and then at the other end of the floor Izaiah Sanders stayed with his man on a backdoor baseline cut and came up with the key steal and, eventually, the two FTs, that sealed the deal.

This was the first career double-double for Adam Bulwa. He has come a tremendous distance with his game. He's become so valuable that Tom Slyder left him in at the end of the game to defend BVU's horse, their starting center, even though Bulwa had four fouls and Jordan Boyd was fresh.

NCC knocked off Aurora 76-44 at Merner tonight. Rough one for the Spartans, who after taking leads of 4-0 and 6-4, let up a 14-2 run and it was pretty much over from there as they never got any closer than within eight from that point on.

Matt Helwig led the way with 22, Terrance Moncrief added 10, and Ethan Helwig and John Blumeyer each scored 9. Aurora shot just 29.5 percent from the floor and were paced in scoring by 7 apiece from Shamar Pumphrey and Nolan Boffman... who got those points in garbage time.

Next Man Up

The CCIW basketball team from Central DuPage just got stronger with Wheaton's 2nd round loss in the D3 football playoffs as Luke Anthony and Spencer Peterson can now immediately switch from football to basketball.
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

The DIII basketball season is nearly a month old and teams are settling into the first full season in two years. As we settle in, there are plenty of topics to discuss. On Sunday's show, Dave McHugh chats with the DIII men's and women's basketball committee chairs - Mike Schauer of Wheaton (Ill.) and Megan Wilson of Luther. Also joining the show is UMass-Boston men's basketball coach Jason Harris to chat about the first Black Coaches Classic and the significant coaching changes in the Northeast.

Tune in On Demand as Dave also takes a look back at some of the significant games and results in the past few weeks ahead of the first in-season Top 25 polls.

Guests appear on the BlueFrame Technology Hoopsville Hotline.

Here is another blurb of mine on a friend's blog.  This piece, with awesome pictures, pertains the NPC's 1987 championship season.

Mr. Ypsi

First in-season poll is out.  IWU jumps from 4 to 2, Wheaton inches up from 6 to 5, Elmhurst jumps from 10 to 7.

No one else in the CCIW got any votes, but HEY!, 3 of the top 7 ain't chopped liver! ;D

Next Man Up

Yep, the 2021-2022 National Champion and two others in the top 7. Pretty good.  ;D
Hopefully that means the CCIW will be acknowledged by others outside the conference as one of the top conferences in the country.

Congratulations to Wheaton's Cade Alioth for being named the CCIW Student Athlete of the Week. Cade has been an absolute force on both ends of the floor up to this point. He is averaging 16 (plus change) points and 13 (plus change) rebounds per game on the young season. His defense inside and his ability to be in the right place at the right time on seemingly every rebounding opportunity has been huge for the Thunder this season. Looking forward to him continuing his dominant play!

Millikin saw a 16-point lead in the second half get whittled down to a mere four by Eureka before the Big Blue buckled down and pulled away in the last eight minutes for a 94-76 win at the Griz. Calvin Fisher led the way for the Decaturites with 22 and 13, Drake Stevenson likewise double-doubled with 18 and 10, Cole Laurence had 14 and 8, Demarcus Bond chipped in 11, and JT Welch added 10.

It is very weird clicking on Region 8 thread and not seeing the WIAC thread as an option.  Good weird.

At the Carthage - Wheaton game.  No Cook or Blake starting and no site of them warming up or on the bench.  Something seems odd.  Maybe someone can comment if they are listening to the stream.
