Just got a pop up on my phone that NCC's game with Central has been cancelled. Haven't seen any more details beyond that yet.

Could someone compare Yeshiva's opponents thus far to teams that are more local?

Not really. Most of those NYC based schools are SLIAC level or worse. NJCU might be like a Ripon. Eastern CT is usually a very good team, but they're down this year.  They did play St. Joe's of CT twice last year,  who's definitely comparable to Elmhurst.

Centrals website states it was called off due to "health and safety concerns"

Yeshiva has one of the weakest schedules in the country.  I think they know that IWU presents a very different, higher-level kind of challenge for them.  They've had very few close games. . .  should be interesting to see how they handle it on their home floor.  IWU needs to bring their best game, too.

Enjoyed the Q interview, the work he's done to make this game happen.  Congrats to both schools for sticking with it and supporting it happening, too.  Sure is a new kind of match-up, with elements of cultural exchange and inter-religious dialogue part of it too.  Should be a great experience for both schools, both teams, as well as a very high level basketball match up.

Good luck to both teams tonight.  May the best team win.

I tuned into the Carroll vs. Nazareth game just as the first half ended, and with the Pioneers up six it appeared that they were in good shape at intermission. Well, Carroll fans, blame my tuning into the game for what ensued if you like, but in the second half the Pios went into a death spiral of utter incompetence at both ends of the floor, as they were outscored 43-23 (with about a third of CU's 23 points coming in garbage time) and ended up losing by a score of 72-58. Nazareth is a fairly decent 8-1 team, but, honestly, Carroll made the Golden Flyers look like Randolph-Macon, and I'm pretty sure that the Empire 8 hasn't produced that good of a team in ... oh, let's see now ... forever. I sympathized with the Carroll fans down there at the Welch College Student Activities Center who cringed their way through that second half.

Aaron Wafford led the way for the Pios with 16 and Josh Hudgens added 14. TEAM REBOUNDS shared the Carroll lead in rebounding with four, which is never a good sign.

The Pioneers return home from the Volunteer State to re-start CCIW play in Van Male against Carthage next Wednesday sporting a record of 4-9, 0-4.

FWIW Naz is the unofficial #1 team in Region III right now.  https://tomaroonandgold.blogspot.com/p/division-iii-mens-regional-rankings.html

A team that beats Oswego on their home court is a good team no matter how you slice it.

Nazareth is fairly decent, as I said. But the Golden Flyers are not world-beaters; Empire 8 teams almost never are. D3 basketball in upstate New York is not top-notch competition, so that 8-1 record of the Golden Flyers is not indicative of a Top 10 program. Rochester is the only Region III school that really competes on a national level on anything close to a semi-regular basis, and the Yellowjackets, as a UAA school, are an anomaly. (It remains to be seen whether the Yellowjackets are up to snuff this season themselves.)

The Top 25 voters are well aware of the comparative weakness of Region III, as #21 RPi is the region's only current representative in the d3hoops.com rankings.

Big win for Carthage down at Welch College today, as the Firebirds eked out a 62-58 victory over Berry. Fillip Bulatovic (15 pts) again shot like crap (7-17 FG), but his layup from the left block with 25 seconds left was absolutely huge, as it bulged out Carthage's lead to three. A Kyle Kostes steal and free throw with nine seconds left sealed the deal. joining Bulatovic in double figures were Kostes with 13 and Garrett Horner with 11 for the Firebirds (7-6).

Augie dumped a lackluster Aurora team, 82-46, in Thornton Gym in a game in which the Spartans were held scoreless by the visitors for stretches of nine and a half minutes on either side of halftime and then six minutes deep in the second half. Nicolas Giliberto led the way for Augustana with 13, while Nate Ortiz had 12 and Matt Hawkins added 11. Daniel Carr and Tyler Knuth each scored ten, with Carr getting yet another double-double by hauling in 13 caroms.

Wheaton  79
Edgewood  61

Tyson Cruickshank  33 pts 8 rebs  7 asst  4 stls
Nyameye Adom  19 pts
Cade Alioth    10 pts, 11 rebs

Jake Schroeckenthaler  22 pts, 7 rebs
Eli Hartjes   15 pts 11 rebs  8 asst

The Thunder put yesterday's hiccup behind them and had much better energy right from the start.  They led 42-31 at halftime when Cruickshank went all-out-Francis on the Eagles scoring the first 10 pts of the second half and Wheaton's first 16 to put the game out of reach.

Next up is a trip downtown next Wednesday to take on the league leaders.  They'll need to prepare well for that matchup and more importantly, test negative (both teams let's hope).

Yeshiva -- which is regionally ranked 7th in that list because of its dreadful SOS numbers -- is also in Region III.

Yes, I had forgotten that NYC and Long Island had been transferred over to that region after being paired for years with New Jersey. Doesn't change my point, though, that upstate New York is not a breeding ground for top-echelon D3 men's basketball teams (again, Rochester excepted), and hasn't been since the heyday of Jerry Welsh's Potsdam State teams and Tom Murphy's Hamilton teams in the late '80s.
