Greg did a great job on the call. It's unfortunately refreshing when someone does his job and figures out how to pronounce the opponent names. That aside, it was enjoyable to listen to!  Wheaton led going away in the win. NPU didn't play particularly well but the Thunder seemed to make everything and get whatever they wanted.

Wheaton 89
North Park 64

Jordan Boyd: 18 pts, 3 stls
Jalen Boyd: 14 pts
Michael Osborne: 5:1 a:to
Gabe Johnson: 3:1 a:to

Nyameye Adom: 27 pts (4-6 trey)
Tyson Cruickshank: 25 pts, 8 rebs, 6:3 a:to
Cade Alioth: 18 pts, 12 rebs, 4 blks
Luke Anthony: 11 pts

Tonight Wheaton looked like a contender and North Park looked like a pretender. The visitors scored the game's first seven points and never looked back. The absence of Izaiah Sanders didn't make much difference; he can't guard Adom and Cruickshank at the same time.

The '73 Augie septuagenarians are popping the corks on their champers even as I type, no doubt.

This brings that "streak" to 50 years.  Are there any other D-3 conferences with a similar distinction?

I lament the celebrations for Augie - if they had lost one, my class at IWU could be celebrating their 53rd anniversary as the last undefeated CCIW team! ;)  Back then we didn't realize how rare that outcome would be! ;D

Looks like we'll be getting more viewers than usual tonight.

The league is all-in on this game.

And this game happens to be enormous.

I hope the dude calling the game can handle the pressure . . . ! ;D

As long as he doesn't screw up Nyameye Adom's pronunciation, he should be his usual mediocre self. ;)

An excellent broadcast as usual, Gregory, made more impressive by the fact that you run a one-man booth as both play-by-play and color commentator.

The extension of Augustana's run as the last undefeated CCIW team is, of course, a notable achievement for Illinois Wesleyan.

Sorry to have ruffled your feathers! ::)

I was only lamenting how close we came to being the team still celebrated 50 (or 53) years later.

Well, been keeping an eye on the Carthage roster for awhile as I had brought up a few times the lack of Elijah Blake being in the lineup since early in the year.   He is no longer listed on the roster.  He started the first game and scored 18 points in 9 minutes and then picked up two T's and was gone from the game.  He played the second game and scored 22 points.  After not being in the third game, his final appearance was against Oshkosh.   He was a very talented player, but he just had the look of maybe not a good fit for the program.   I hadn't seen him on the bench since so whether he had been out with injury, illness or something else, he was nowhere to be seen on the bench.  Guess maybe they waited for the semester to end and then took him off the roster.  Just speculation, but something just didn't feel right from that first game when he got those technicals.

Conversely, they added a new name to the roster.   Antuan Nesbitt, from neighboring Racine, Wi.   He was listed as the 24th top senior in WI last year and had shown to be attending DII Northern Michigan.  Not sure if he ever attended the school (I checked some box scores and didn't see his name at all).   Looks like this could be a nice pickup for the balance of the season.   He stands 6'4" so nice size as well.   Not sure where he would step in right now as Horner and Sigel have been playing the major minutes at the 2/3 spots.

I know. As soon as Chuck threw in his plug for his era's Titans, I said to myself, "Kiko's gonna drop the meme any moment now."

Love it!

Link lists psychology as Mr. Blake's major.

Paige "McBuckets" (Her NLI ID), last year's National Women's DI POY, sustained a knee injury in the last minute of a blowout victory by UConn.  Why was she even on the floor, Coach Gino???

Likewise, why was Wheaton's big three on the floor with under four minutes to play in a blowout victory versus NPU?

Sorry, this is a dumb argument. She literally got hurt on a non-contact play dribbling the ball up the court, the definition of a freak occurrence that could have happened in minute 1 or minute 30. It was the most mundane situation imaginable. She wasn't flying through the lane for a layup and getting fouled into the first row.
Regular starters/stars are on the floor at the end of games ALL THE TIME. Injuries aren't limited to the last 2 minutes of a game. This isn't football, no one is getting gang tackled while wearing cleats. Unless your player is actively nursing an injury, there's no reason to limit them.
Only one Wheaton player played over 30 minutes against NPU. Since Wheaton usually sports a small rotation (this year in particular), they lean heavily on their stars and they usually lead the league in minutes played or at least in top 3-4. Aston Francis averaged 35 minutes per game his last two years. The players are conditioned accordingly to handle the load.
