Congrats again to Matt Leritz . . . second time named CCIW Player of the Week.  Today's performance confirms it further.

New D3hoops poll out:

IWU 3
EU 12
WC 14

The CCIW gauntlet continues . . . no nights off.  Hoping Cory Noe returns for NPU on Wednesday in Chicago.

Please ask Ron Rose the field for next seasons Jack Sikma Invitational on Hoopsville. This season was so good, I'm already looking forward to next season.  He might not answer, but it's always a free question right  ;)

I think we know YU is coming? The other two though?

UW-Stevens Point, Webster, IWU, Yeshiva

Thank you TitanQ. Another good field. I apologize if I missed this somewhere a while back.

You did not miss...that is the first time anyone has asked!

Are the matchups set yet?  I'd love to see how the pack line defense matches up with the Yeshiva motion.

Matchups not set yet.  I get to share my opinion on that with Coach Rose if any ideas.

I know the tourney has been moved from Fri/Sat to Sat/Sun for the Macs.

My thought is Yeshiva should get to play both IWU and UW-Stevens Point.  Take a trip to the midwest and get traditional CCIW and WIAC powers.  Maybe do a classic format possibly who knows.

North Central comes away with an 86-82 road win at Augustana. Another huge game for Matt Helwig (33-11-5), who is practically lapping the field in the CCIW in terms of scoring. He's the fourth-leading scorer in all of D3 and is fourth in D3 in free-throw shooting as well. (He's made 59 in a row, according to Chris and Dan.) Honestly, I'm not sure why we don't read anything about him here in this room. I think that our resident NCC fan has only posted about Matt Helwig once or maybe twice this season. I mean, there's no rule here that says that you have to wear a green uniform in order to get hyped on CCIW Chat. Matt Helwig is a tremendous player. (His little brother Ethan -- 21-6-6 tonight -- isn't too shabby, either.)

Another double-double for Daniel Carr, by the way (20 and 14), at Carver this evening.

Webster?????  That kinda deflates the description "good field"....  I'm a SLIAC fan, but.....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Had an unexpected cancellation...they are the replacement.  Scheduling is hard.

This also isn't the only place there is discussion about CCIW and D3 players anymore.  On Twitter for example I've had a whole lot to say about how great Matt Helwig is.  Many others have too.

Can confirm from the days of NCC's old Tip Off Tournament. Pretty sure that's partially why Hope has a 118-20 win in its record books.

Well, congratulations. But, as I made clear in my earlier post, I'm talking about this room. What gets tweeted in that social-media cesspool is irrelevant to my point.

WUPHF

The quantity of posts has been on the decline for a while, sadly.  There will always be a place for the boards, but so much has moved to Twitter.

Twitter in general is terrible, but if you curate your feed, the conversation is great.

For example, the Wooster and Calvin guys are killing it as far as data, computer rankings, and tournament projections go.

I feel like conversation about Division III basketball has been a lot better there than it has here for a while now.

WUPHF

The IWU guy does pretty well on Twitter, too, but I assumed everyone knew that.

I actually do have a Twitter account, WUPHF, and I do curate my feed. I almost exclusively use Twitter either for D3 sports purposes (not just men's basketball) or, alternately, for Indiana high-school basketball purposes because of my nephews. But I try to use Twitter sparingly, and I feel as though I have to put on a hazmat suit every time that I log onto it. I wish that I could just blank out Twitter's right-hand column entirely. I'm not surprised that Calvin got a shout-out from you (although I suspect that it's mostly Matt Snyder who deserves the credit for Calvin's social-media data wizardry), given that I can't think of any cultural institution that better illustrates the Calvinist doctrine of the total depravity of humankind than Twitter. ;)

Sadly, you're right about the quantity of d3boards.com posts declining. The pandemic hasn't helped, but I think that conversation boards in general are going the way of the dodo and the passenger pigeon. We've become an online community of middle-aged and old men here, young whippersnappers like Lucas Mitzel excepted. It's all about social media with the younger generations. Frankly, I think that that's a big loss; not just because d3boards.com is in and of itself an amazing resource in tandem with the rest of the d3sports.com conglomerate, but because of that word community. This board, and others like it, creates community. Social media, for the most part, prevents community. (Facebook is somewhat of an exception in that regard.) Tribalism isn't community. You can unite people around hatred, but that unity is a mile wide and a foot deep.

It's funny how the perspectives are different.  I hate Facebook, precisely because I can't control it.  Unless I'm just going to unfriend 90% of the people I'm connected to, the company doesn't give me any way to curate what I see.  To me, that's the last place to go for community.

At the same time, I really do not understand why people complain about Twitter.  I choose which posts I see and which ones I don't.  It's very easy to control what shows up in your feed and how you interact with people.  It's a quick and easy way to communicate, even with people you don't follow.  I get that if you're a celebrity and you've got 10,000 people tagging you constantly, that Twitter might be tough, but that's not the case for most of the people who complain about it.
